Server 4 move

Due to the ongoing problems with Server 4, I have decided to move the accounts to a new server from a new company/datacenter.

I have already ordered the server. It will be located in Germany, Europe - which is a change from the current USA-only servers that we have had.

The specs are a massive overkill for the needs (the current one is already overkill), but I guess that won't be a problem for you. The server should have 32GB of RAM (currentlly 2GB), a good quad core i7 processor and 2 3TB hard drives in software RAID1.

As with all server moves in the past, I will try to minimize any downtime (normally there won't even be any). Only during the move, the changes on the current server (as the websites will continue to work) will not be reflected on the new one. As I predict the move will only take about 2 hours or less that shouldn't be too big of a problem.

Please note that the move is not for now/immediately. I hope to get the server by Wednesday and then I will still have to setup everything and purchase and install DirectAdmin myself.

I will update with more information.

EDIT: The server move is finished now. If you go to your website it will normally be served by the new server. However the accounts still exist on both servers. If you make any changes to DirectAdmin (or ftp), please do so on the new server. Only the changes on the new server will show up/be effective. However you can still reach the old DirectAdmin account in case something got wrong during the move and you wish to view the old version.

For the control panels (DirectAdmin):
Old server:
New server: <-- Use this one for new changes to your website!
New main server ip: (If you pointed your domain to the old main server ip, change it to this one)
The nameservers remain the same: and

If you have any problems still, notify me as fast as possible about it either here or in the support forums! Some accounts seem to be missing some files on the new server - please check your accounts if this is the case for you!

I think (or at least hope) that I'll get the server somewhere today.
Bondings on Tue Mar 06, 2012 9:37 am
Good news, I just got the server. It will however need a lot of setup/configuring so the server move won't be for today.
Bondings on Tue Mar 06, 2012 12:11 pm

My request on Server 4 not yet accepted.

DirectAdmin is installed. Tomorrow I'll do most of the (rest of the) setup. I'll see how far I get.

@meiz, the move hasn't started yet. It is most likely for today (evening) or tomorrow.
Bondings on Wed Mar 07, 2012 10:34 am
That's really good news~ Very Happy Thanks for the upgrading!
I'm looking forward to the new server. Smile

Would this potentially give the ability to increase storage/bandwidth for server 4 users?

Could possibly be used for people who want to upgrade server. Whereas people like me wouldn't mind being on server 1, as I don't need/take much resources.

If any of this makes a difference for resources anyways.
Ghost Rider103 on Wed Mar 07, 2012 3:44 pm
Waiting for the upgrade. Smile

I got most of the software working and setup done.

However I was not able to install mod_python, even after a lot of changes to the source code. Turns out that Apache 2.4 changed a lot of API stuff and considering mod_python is more or less dead I guess this is the end for Python on Server 4. Everyone who needs Python will be transferred (after requesting it, please note that the subdomain will have to change) to Server 2/3 and I'll try to get it working there (and hence not upgrade from Apache 2.2 to Apache 2.4 unless there is a solution for Python).

About the server move. Unfortunately I think it's a bit too late to start today as I don't want to risk to have to stay up all night for it (even if it shouldn't take long, you never know), so the move will most likely be for tomorrow morning.

@Ghost Rider103, I will probably increase the storage/bandwidth of current Server 4 users to make up for the problems of Server 4 recently.

Its awesome! Waiting for the best server

thanks much... Sad
jrzipagan03 on Thu Mar 08, 2012 8:48 am
I will soon start moving the accounts to the new server. Please do not make any changes to your website on the old server from now on as they might not make it to the new server (of course you can do the same changes there too or fix it yourself as you'll have access to your account on both servers for a while).

@jrzipagan03, I'll be moving the accounts to a new server now. Hopefully that will solve your problems.
Bondings on Thu Mar 08, 2012 9:22 am
The move is almost finished. The last accounts are being restored and afterwards the dns will be transferred to the new server ip.
Bondings on Thu Mar 08, 2012 11:22 am
The move is more or less finished and the dns should direct you to the new server. Please report what is working and what not. Also note that I upgraded MySQL, Apache and PHP to newer versions. (MySQL 5.5, Apache 2.4 and php 5.3)

For people who pointed their domains (A record or similar) to the ip address of the old server, please change it to the main ip of the new server: .

For the control panels (DirectAdmin):
Old server:
New server:

It runs superb fast! Shocked
lovescience on Thu Mar 08, 2012 2:31 pm
Is the upgrading all done?
It seems my account is neither moved nor still on the old server. I can't enter DirectAdmin, though the Mysql Server works~ I can log in phpMyAdmin with my accounts.

Ah, it works fine now. I should've waited for a few more minutes. Sorry about that.
inuyasha on Thu Mar 08, 2012 5:16 pm
@inuyasha, Yes the server move is finished. I checked your account and somehow your files were only partially restored. I did it again and it seems ok now. Can you please check if everything is ok now?

For clarity, all accounts are moved and if you go to your (sub)domain it should be served from the new server. The accounts still exist on both the old and the new server. You can reach the control panel DirectAdmin of both from:
Old server:
New server:

If there are any problems either post them here or in the support forum if it is something more complex.

Edit: @inuyasha , I'm glad it's ok now. It seems you made your edit before I could post this. Very Happy
Bondings on Thu Mar 08, 2012 5:42 pm
It looks like a good portion of the files on 4 domains I have hosted here have not been fully restored. I show only 32MB of data being stored when it should be closer to 400MB. I'm also getting 404-errors on my main site.
crystalkey on Thu Mar 08, 2012 7:20 pm
@crystalkey, what about now?

About others having this issue that some (usually a lot of) files are not present in your new account on the new server. Please notify me as fast as possible either here or in the support forums!
Bondings on Thu Mar 08, 2012 8:35 pm
Was working. When trying to log in, I'm getting the MySQL server has gone away messages. I'll try again in a couple of hours ...
crystalkey on Thu Mar 08, 2012 9:06 pm
OK. Still getting MySQL errors. I reindexed the databases, and checked the file sizes. Nothing abnormal there. What I aam getting is that even though the files are there, the control panel shows about 55MB used, but the panel for the domain shows the correct total file sizes for the domain in question.

Wierd. As of right now, the site is inaccessible. The subdirectories for the site containing the blog (Wordpress) and forums (PHPBB) appear to be working fine. It appears that something is there that Drupal does not like, which is what my main site runs on.
crystalkey on Thu Mar 08, 2012 11:47 pm
Was reading this:

This is almost what is happening here. Can this be configured? It appears that the following needs to be added to the my.cnf file for MySQL:

crystalkey on Fri Mar 09, 2012 12:19 am
I keep getting persistent login problems from Drupal and Wordpress. As long as I'm not logged in, everything works. Maybe another restore from the old server of just the "crystalkeyministries" domain will solve the issue as well?

The off-site access issue seems to have been fixed but it is intermittent for the RSS feeds that I have setup on the site for the Wordpress blogs.

Sorry to be such a pitb(ull) about this....

Thanks for taking care of us...!

by the way do I have to change ns records of my sites..? is yes what is the new ns servers and ip address of that?

I not just hope I believe after moving to new server we don't have to face the problems,
Thanks, Thanks a lot..!
nepalstar on Fri Mar 09, 2012 8:28 am
@crystalkey, sorry for the delay, I was sleeping. I have changed the mysql settings to what you mentioned - I hope that should help. If you still have problems, it would be best to create a new topic about it in the support forums as this seems to be a more complicated problem. Please also mention which pages are giving a problem (if possible) so that I can check it myself if the changes I make work or not and see the error messages.

@nepalstar, the nameservers are the same and normally you don't need to do anything. Is everything working fine, by the way?
Bondings on Fri Mar 09, 2012 10:00 am

The pages seem to work fine now. Thanks for all of your help! The off-site access issue seems to be fixed as well. FB logins and RSS access are also working.

Thanks once again and get some well deserved rest.
