Server 4 problems (17-20-01-2012)

In short: Server 4 was compromised and the Operating System had to be reloaded and all the user data restored. It took a very long time before I got the server details and then when I was almost finished (mysql wasn't working properly yet) my internet broke for about 4 hours, making it even longer.

The topic: http://www.frihost.com/forums/vt-133200.html .

Anyway, the restore is complete. Please report any problems! I assume special configurations will have problems (perl/python), please notify me here or in the support forum when something doesn't work like it should!

My apologies for all the problems this caused!

Edit: It might also be better if everyone on Server 4 changed their DirectAdmin hosting account password. And if you used that same password somewhere else, better change it there too (unless it's not an important place/website).

I really appreciate your work! My forum was restored and everything works. I am going to make more frequent backups to avoid data lose. The lesson from this situation: always backup your data!

It wasn't really a technical outage, right...
Just taking it down on purpose to protest SOPA!

^^ Even after all these years that still baffles me,when you have a site you have put a lot of work into,it makes sense to back it up on your own pc,just in case,i can't understand why anyone wouldn't do that.

No need to apologize man. you're the best for setting up something like this. in addition, i find it a valiant action that youre doing because youre apologizing for having a great website like this. i hope that you have a good day.

Hell, i don't understand why people develop on the remote copy at all! Do your work locally, upload the result, you'll always have a backup and don't have to worry about people visiting one of the messed up intermediates.

Yes, no doubt the ftp problems I was having in December were a result of more problems you had to sort out because of people who like to mess things up. This is just a short note saying that creative people appreciate the work you put in behind the scenes.
