About Frih$ and Coins changes

As I already announced I was going to do it, I disabled the earning of Frih$. Please note that while you won't be able to earn any Frih$ anymore, you will still be able to use it.

I also enabled donating Coins. This means that you can from now on (unless this is changed) also use Coins (next to Frih$) to trade in the marketplace.

I think this needs to be made into an announcement or it will go un-noticed in latest posts.
truespeed on Wed Dec 01, 2010 6:12 pm
People will notice that there frih$ aren't changing anymore because half of the members of Frihost like to have a lot of frih$. Also the screen you get when you posted something has been changed too just "You earned xx points" and not the old "You earned xx points and xx frih$".

Also it is kind off an announcement because it's at the top of the forums index...
EDIT: Ok, it's not in the announcement area... sorry Razz Definitely something that has to be done like truespeed said.

I was doubting whether to make it a featured discussion or not. I already added quite some featured discussions lately, so I chose not to.

Anyway, it's a featured discussion now. Very Happy

Then, hasn't coins completely replaced Frih$?
LittleBlackKitten on Wed Dec 01, 2010 9:12 pm
Aw, I'll miss the Frih$. Brings back good memories. So, what exactly will Frih$ be useful for now? I mean, I guess they will still work in the marketplace, and given time their value will go up significantly. But are you planning on doing any Coins/Frih$ exchanging?

Oh actually, will the directory still use Frih$?
william on Thu Dec 02, 2010 12:43 am
@william, yes the uses of Frih$ will remain and some new ones will be available. Most of the time there will be an option between Frih$ and Coins. However no exchanging will be possible.
Bondings on Thu Dec 02, 2010 7:59 am
Awesome, I've been waiting for this. I think enabling the exchange of coins will give the Marketplace some activity.

Now I'm curious what the frih$ will be used for in the future. I just barely broke the $2k frih mark before they were disabled.

1 question on the market place -
can i sell software which used to be free but now is paid yet the old silences are still working and my licenses are not used yet even though i got them for free
can i sell them?
mahirh on Thu Dec 02, 2010 11:34 am
@mahirh, no sorry we can't allow that. I'm not sure if that is legal and even if it would be, there could still be problems for us.
Bondings on Thu Dec 02, 2010 4:11 pm
Why not have just one currency and change all of the Frih$ to coins? Having two currencies can be really confusing and not good at all for the Marketing Forum.

I agree with Truespeed. This announcement will go unnoticed as with the previous announcements about the coins and Frih$ I have found that people were asking lots of questions in the forums. For us regular posters we may be more focussed on announcements (although I missed the new competition featured discussion initially). For example, is it possible to put a separate notice up in the Marketing Forum or perhaps just link this post into the marketing forum as that was one Forum where people had asked a lot of questions and seemed to have been confused?

I wonder whether the uncertainty has also been responsible for an almost 100% drop in marketing activity in the Marketing Forum. Having two currencies may also not be helpful either. It complicates trade that should be simple. Maybe it would be better to make the domains more expensive and find a way to amalgamate the Frih$ and coins so that we only have one currency? Smile

I think if is earnings of Frih$ disabled then two currencies are needlessly. I don't think lot of users will "work" for Frish$ instead of Coins. For example, if someone offer 20 Coins for logo, and some other 200 Frih$ for logo the most (or all) of members will create logo for first offer. In that case the Frish$ is useless. But some type of exchange will be more than fair for old frihost users.

For me this is not important because I am very less time in marketplace but I like to gain Frih$ because I can see average per post. Sad

Wait, maybe I'm way out of it, but were Frih$ good for anything in the first place?
wombatrpgs on Sat Dec 04, 2010 7:43 am
@Sonam. That is an excellent example. Better then to do some calculation to convert the Frih$ into coins. I like your value for the logos, as 20 coins sound fair for that. Once all of these currencies are more stable, and the trading activities pick up in the Market Place, maybe we should try and have some discussion as to ball park value of logos etc. Smile
deanhills on Sat Dec 04, 2010 10:46 am
strange, before you are able to build a website you must earn Frih$.
Therefore you need to post on forum.

Well it looks like you are unable to earn Frih$ and start your own website as the website tells you.
But i'm new and perhabs not looking correct, anyway this is my first post.

This is really great having a lot activity on the forum makes member active an enjoy here in frihost. Is that right my frih$ can convert to coins or trade? Im still confuse please let me know!
airh3ad on Mon Dec 06, 2010 2:55 pm
Not to big of a deal for me as all I do is collect the coins but good to know anyway. Would be cool if they had some ratio conversion to coins as it is unlikely I will get coins any other way. Smile

I want to earn points how can i Sad(

I'm surprised this hasn't sparked more topics/activity in the Marketplace...

Not one new topic (except the one I created) has been posted there, even though coins are now exchangeable. That's stunning.

I think people like to buy domain for coins and they don't like to spend heavy earned coins in something like logo.

sonam on Thu Dec 09, 2010 4:53 pm
Well, it's a great improvement to have the ability of exchanging coins. For example, if I want to sell a domain name, I can get coins (that are useful) instead of the old frih$, which hadn't any value...

Great news!
mtorregiani on Thu Dec 09, 2010 6:30 pm
Oh so that means my frih is worth a lot more. Simple move of Economics. Therefore I will give my 1853.46 frih to the person who offers 100000 coins. Razz

On a more serious note doesn't this kind of just make it useless to have coins then? I know that coins are set up differently then frih but not like someone else has stated people wont' be as inspired to post topics asking for logos and such to be done.

Blaster: More likely it means that frih$ are even more useless than before...
wombatrpgs on Tue Jan 18, 2011 6:56 pm
Actually, if Frih$ are no longer able to be earned, that will increase their value.

The more Frih$ that are created, the less value they are.

All Bondings needs to do is create some sort of product or service that is cheaper by using Frih$ instead of coins. This will then make people want frih$ much more.

But if you don't like your Frih$, feel free to donate. Very Happy

This is true if Bondings create something cheaper by using frih$. But I think this is not his intention. The same is with all currency in Europe. For example, no more Marks but their value is not going up. Maybe in numismatic but not in real world. If old members stop to use frih$ and all attention is go to coins then frih$ must to be useless.

To me, too.

In the future, frih$ will be used for other things, and I am assuming you could buy more things with 200Frih$ than you can with 200 coins. So the value of frih$ should increase, by a lot.
