Our first essay competition!

Our first essay competition just started. It is called 'History of topics related to Frihost' and all participating users have to write an essay about a topic related to Frihost, like the 'History of the Internet'. There are 50 topics to choose from. After a week I will choose the best one and that user gets a domain or the equivalent in Coins.

So if you want to win a free domain, earn a lot of coins or simply want to show off your writing skills, please participate and write a great essay! Good luck to all. Very Happy

I just chose my topic... Although I'm not really a writing talent, not even in my own language, I still participate because it's a great concept and maybe who knows, I could even win (chances are slim though but hey it's better to try and have little chance than not try at all).

I wish everybody good luck with this competition. Smile

PS: Are there prices for the 2nd, 3rd place?

Awesome topic, although I was kind of expecting the provided time to be more than a week. Out of curiosity, how often to you plan on having these competitions?

I actually might go ahead and enter myself, if I find the time. I could write endlessly about some of these topics. Razz

@william If a lot of users request it, I can of course make it a few days longer. On the other hand I would like to hold them rather frequently (maybe 2 per month) and giving 10-14 days would make that difficult.

@adri, I didn't want to do that for the first competition as I was not sure about the level of participation and the quality of the entries. I mean if there would only be 3 entries, with 2 of them more or less crap, I would feel bad about giving those a reward. On the other hand if there would be tens of entries (or a few very good ones), with most quite detailed, then other prizes might be a good idea.

So are you saying that there is a chance of being a 2nd and 3rd place prize?

I did one as well. Haven't done one since high school! LOL! Too funny. I hope I did well enough!

I like how the contests are set up,it would be a shame if only 3 people (the total so far) entered because of the short time limit to complete.

I think for the first one there needs to be a longer time limit, users of frihost aren't used to 1 week deadlines, they are used to "its on the to do list" only to be done 2 years later,so to go from an hey ho attitude to a more dynamic attitude takes some adjustment.

I've been away for a week, so only noticed the topic now. Would have been nice to have a longer deadline, as I'm stepping right into a busy work week starting on Sunday. However Bondings if I can't make the deadline, I'm sure further opportunities may come up as per your regular schedule of competitions. I take it that after a while we will be able to pick a competition that matches our availability of time, not a biggie .... ?

I'll probably make it 2 weeks for the first competition.

@Blaster, that might be in other competitions yes, depending on how this one (and other ones) go. However there are currently 4 entries (if I'm not mistaken) and giving out 2nd and 3rd place prizes seems a bit too much at the moment. On the other hand there could be a prize for a 'very good' entry, which could be given to a lot of people.
