New columned layout for the forums

I made a new columned layout for the forums. Since we have a lot of forums, this columned layout will cause less scrolling. I hope you all like it. I will most likely shorten the forum descriptions to make them take less space. Other suggestions and refinements are always welcome.

Good idea. This will make for better threads in the correct topics. Maybe people will actually search for the correct category before posting in the General Chat section.

Great idea!

I don't like it,its too much of a culture shock,i didn't think scrolling was that big an issue,as most people go to view new posts anyway.and if it was, perhaps a better solution would of been collapseable forums.

Bondings, this looks absolutely brilliant! More than covers the suggestion we made recently about putting the "chat" at the bottom. The way you have it now will motivate people to immediately go to the forums they are interested in. Good thinking .... Applause Dancing

I'm not sure I like the new look. Well.. it look nicer for sure but now I have to look all over the screen to find things. Before it was only to look at the left.

Maybe it will be better when I get more used to it.

Ok, it looks ok. I'm sure people with widescreen monitors will love this, but try taking a look at it in google chrome.... ewwww Confused

not sure about the new look here either. I was already used to scroll from staff, to suggestions, to scripting and support and end with dutch.

Maybe requires some getting used to like Peterssidan said :/

@Manofgames, I installed Google Chrome to check it out and it looks the same. Maybe you need to clear the cache/refresh due to wrong/previous styles being used?

@Peterssidan and rvec, I also have a pretty similar experience. But I'm mostly sure that I'll be getting used to it. The links are simply at different places than they used to be.

Quite a shock when I was coming here this week! It's more space efficent on the horizontal, sure, but a linear view just seems to be much easier to read and interpret.

I'm a 1920x1200 guy and it makes a huge improvement! Very Happy

MY EYES! Can you implement an option to revert it to default look?

So, does this mean the long-promised forum re-design (which was going to include a columned layout) will be gradual, not sudden?
ocalhoun on Sun Feb 01, 2009 3:11 am
@Ocalhoun, I learned through experience that sudden never seems to come and the only way to achieve something is gradually.

Fantastic!!! Well done, Sir Bondings!
For some here: "change is good". It stimulates the brain.
standready on Sun Feb 01, 2009 3:38 am
In theory it does help in organising the forums and save space with this new design. However, like many had said, it is too much of a sudden change and now people who are so used to the old layout are very confused. I agree that if it is possible, provide and option for people to switch between the old and new layout.

Hey great work Bonding's! Looks so much better.

This current version of the layout doesn't resize well—I think you should set a higher minimum width for the page, or use fewer columns. I think a two-column approach would work well.

Hi, the forum doesn't satisfy w3c html standards. In the moden world, it is always good to maintain the standards, it helps seo as well.
