Not a nice thing.

There is a bad bed bug epidemic and because of it I simply refuse to bring anything into my home that is recycled. It is too bad for it is nice to get bargains here and there but I am just not taking the chance. I will not read hate filled religious posts either as I don’t want the disease.

... Recycled as in reprocessed from former waste materials (the normal means of using recycled these days), or recycled as in reusing a used item in its initial state (e.g. second hand)?

If the first, your position is patently ridiculous; products made from recycled materials are no more likely to carry bed bugs as any brand new product made from new materials. Recycled products are made by completely breaking down the old product and reprocessing it into a new material... there's nothing left of its former role.

If the second, there is potential for concern with some items, but, for the most part, there's no danger at all. Many second hand items are simply unsuitable habitats for bed bugs, and many of those that are are easily checked for inhabitants. I can see not buying second hand clothing, bedding, plush toys or furniture, or the like, without making sure they've been properly cleaned... but a lot of second hand goods just aren't a threat.

Being careful is good; being paranoid is silly.

Maybe, I think I am just really afraid of getting them. I read and saw on tv that they can hide so well they are almost undetectable. I think I will be extra cautious for a while and keep the thought of being careful in the back of my mind. I don't mind the occasional spider as I think they actually clean house but those things are just too creepy for me. Yeah I am paranoid. Sad

Probably good to use common sense. Carpets are usually a great collector of bacteria and stuff. Probably good to steam clean it regularly, or better yet do without it. Marble floors are better. Curtains probably also collect bugs if not regularly cleaned. And then the bed mattress needs to be replaced now and then, or at least turned over.

I doubt old clothes can create a problem. Not the kind that are at the thrift store any way, and probably good to just get them cleaned right away.

Spiders in my experience usually come with dust. The more dust, the more spiders. It's dead easy to get dusty in the Middle East, and also for dust mites to be a problem. Particularly if they are inhaled.

Thank God I've never had a problem with these little creatures but I've heard reports and it is scary. I don't mind a few spiders but they need to be kept under control, yeah. The little bugs that do get me sometimes is the really small variety that can only be seen under the microscope - common cold.
