Chili'd bean soup

I've got the ol' slow cooker out again to make up a couple meals worth of stuff...  decided to try something a little different for me, and not use meat in my soup Razz  With lots of beans and such on hand, I decided to try something with a little bite.

2pk chicken bouillon
sea salt
black pepper
sprinkle cayenne
chili flakes
onion powder
chili powder (bulk of spicing)
dash of red-pepper hot sauce (Louisiana style)

2 cloves of minced garlic
"soup mix" of various beans, barley, lentils
2 handfuls red kidney beans
2 handfuls red lentils
3 cubed potatoes

Basically just tossed it all together in pot and it's now cooking.  I'll give it a sample in an hour or two once the flavours start mingling.

Looks very interesting. I don't think I know what half of that stuff is lol.

I'm a meat person though, so I love all kinds of meats in my soups. But I love trying new things, I would definitely give this a try.

Yeah, I'm a meat guy myself; almost everything I make is based around one or more meats... this is a little bit of a departure for me. Really it needs some veggies in there too, but I don't have anything at the moment, other than carrots, and I don't think they'd fit Wink

Yeah, tried some last night.
Ice little bit of spiciness, but was lacking a little in the flavor department... I couldn't quite figure out what it needed (other than a couple more hours on heat to furthers often the dried beans and peas!). I added a little more hot sauce, onion and salt, and tasting it this morning it seemed alright.

I bought some feta today to try in it, and it really helps. Just put the soup in your bowl, crumble some feta over the top, and enjoy Smile Complements it nicely.

Ah nice!

Yeah without any meats in there there isn't that extra boost of flavor that it would normally get. I think if you threw some hamburger in there, or maybe even sausage it would be delicious! But that would ruin your idea of doing something without meat. Razz

Oh man I didn't think of that, that does sound delicious! Would also add a ton of flavor, probably even more than hamburger would.

I have a really hard time using bacon as an ingredient... It's just so good I have to eat it as bacon Razz
That said, if I could get past my desire to eat it straight up, bacon would be amazing in this (and some other recipes I've considered).
