A colleague of mine wrote an article concerning the current federal funding cuts to science research, the need for basic research in policy making and our inability to answer important questions on climate change. It's a little depressing, and all very relevant... The case study is one of a local beetle species introduction, but the meaning is generally applicable.

That sucks man... I know how it is. Living in California we are going to be going through some severe budget cuts here pretty soon and i'm pretty sure a hefty chunk of that is going to be coming out of our Natinal Park system etc. Its pretty sad to see it happening there too: The saddest thing being that in the end money is a made up tool for worker motivation and the planet we live on is a very real and very finite resource we can't afford to keep on abusing to the level we are now everywhere. Humans... Almost like a virus.
