Random soup with sausage




Well, I've got my slow cooker out again, and I've got a week's worth of meals to think of without a whole lot of groceries... so it's a random soup time!! I haven't tried this "recipe" yet; I've got it cooking now, we'll see how it tastes come morning. I'm basically throwing some ingredients together and hoping for the best Razz

This is about what I put together for my soup this week:
2 Hot Italian sausages
~1/4c Adzuki beans
~1 1/2c black beans
~1c Pot barley
~2c Lentils
(I'm really taking a wild stab at volumes here)

For some flavour I added:
Sea salt, onion powder, Italian seasoning and pepper mix, black pepper, a generous dose of garam masala and a touch of cayenne.

I've had this in the slow cooker on high for about an hour and a half now to give everything a hot head start and to firm up the sausage before I cut it. I took the sausage out, cut it into chunks and put it back in to finish cooking overnight on low. Hopefully that'll be enough to get the beans nice and soft!!

So far it smells pretty nice; the garam masala's sweetness is mixing with the Italian seasoning nicely... hopefully it'll taste as nice as it smells Wink I'd have liked to add actual onion and some garlic, but I didn't go to the grocery store this weekend and don't have any (and I'm out of town with no way to go get some); gotta make due Wink

I'll update on the success or failure tomorrow!

I had some for lunch Smile
It's not bad; not particularly bold, but a good bean flavour, with just a bit of the sausage flavour pervading throughout. I may have added a bit much black pepper, but not too much; just gives a slight heat in the after-taste.

As with most of my soups, it ended up more like a stew in consistency... kinda thick. I could add more water, but, well, this makes it more of a meal Wink
