Yeah, I know... another post about the themes of religious discourse on FriHost. I'll likely stop with these soon.
One of the recommended videos up for offer on my Youtube home today was an hour long TV interview with Richard Dawkins by Howard Conder on the Revelation TV program The Interview. I figured what the heck... and gave it a watch. Clearly, the station was of Christian origin, so I had some idea of how the interview would go, but the overall tone of the interview, if not the content, was a bit different than we usually see, and I think it kind of mirrors what some people here on Frih wish that all discourse on religion might occur... it was very subdued, pretty much 0 passion, with a "respectful" tone from both participants.
Despite the "respectful" tone, I found the interview to be somewhat lacking in any real novelty, it was pretty much a rehash of the standard content and stances... and I found, particularly towards the middle and end that it was a complete farce. Neither side truly respected the other's position, it was merely a facade... I don't think that Conder was willing to listen to what Dawkins had to say, and Dawkins was simply hearing the same stuff again, which he hasn't respected in the past.
Though a little boring, here's the video. It does contain some good information within... and shows how useless the illusion of "respect" can be.
