We need a new moderator to Turkish forums, because our moderator away from forums for a long time, he may left Frihost.

There too much spam topic in Turkish Forums and it seems too much complicated.

We will be glad if you choose a new moderator

Suggestions : Provision in Report Function for Duplicate Threads?

I come across duplicate threads from time to time, however there is no provision in the "Report" list of boxes to tick, for reporting on "Duplicate Thread". Perhaps it could be of assistance to the Moderators if we could have some way that we could click or "tick" something to let them know that there is a duplicate thread?

For example, a Frihoster has just started a duplicate thread on Obama's Peace Prize in the Politics Forum. There is quite a large thread on it already in the World News Forum.

For some reason every time I click the link that is supposed to take me to the last said thing in a post, if its a blog topic it tells me that the selected topic does not exist. Can we fix this? I searched for this suggestion before I posted but I could not find it.

Is there a way that one can programme PMs so that when someone is away, that a message would come up automatically that that person is away and won't be looking at messages for X amount of time?

Economy is not doing very well discussion wise in the "Economy and Marketing Forum". Would it be a good idea perhaps to remove "Economy" from the "Economy and Marketing" Forum and add it to Politics, i.e. "Politics and Economy" as the two seem to be a better fit than Economy and Marketing?

Hello All

Is it possible to subscribe to ALL the threads in a forum (including ones that will be started in the future?)

If not, can this be made possible?

In my case, I should like to have an automatic subscription to all threads (existing and future ones) in the forum Science -> Basics.

Of course, such a function would need complementary "opt-out" functions:
- Cancel automatic subscription to the forum
- Cancel subscription to all threads in the forum
- Cancel subscription to individual threads in the forum

Ok, I think something needs to be changed with the "Filmmaking and Graphics" category. There is too much of a mix of topics in there. We have threads that discuss different types of cameras...then we have other topics that have to do with digital design. These are two completely different subjects, and they need to be split up.

I personally think we need to remove the graphics part out of this category. Maybe change it to "photography"?

Then we will need another forum that actually has to do with design. We have design tips, which I think is an ok name for it.

But we need to have an area where all the designers on this forum will go. We all seem to be split up between Flmmaking and Graphics, Design tips, and Personal Art Gallery. This is pretty bad.

I think we need to remove the "Personal Art Gallery" and "personal pictures Gallery". As the personal photos can be posted in the new photography category. Then the personal art can be posted in the new design forum (or changed one).

We have things too mixed up here. ...

I'm getting excited, as ever since Bondings made a call for 1-million postings (http://www.frihost.com/users/Bondings/blog/vp-94164.html), I've been watching the Frihost number of postings. We are getting very close to 900,000 postings. Maybe we will be at 1-million by 2010?

Would there be any merit for creating a Frihost 1-million Postings Logo that can be added to the Banner when we click over to 1-million, sort of as a celebration logo?

Also, how about making a competition for it?

Was looking at the Your Account page and noticed a couple of minor hiccups. First and foremost, there's a major ambiguity there. I'm not sure entirely what this means; if it's to disable forum ads or hosting ads. I think it may be for hosting ads? That could be what Frih$ are for -- I'm yet to figure those out. Either way, perhaps this could be reworded to something like "Disable advertisments on your webhosting" or add a caption "* Note: This only disables advertisments on the Frihost Forums; there aren't any on your hosting, anyway! "

Heya folks,

So there I was wondering about the theory behind ratings. Effectively, an optimal way to calculate user-based instantaneous (i.e. not following review) ratings, diverging from the 1-5 stars or thumbs-up and thumbs-down system. So, I thought to myself, let's go make a post on Frihost.

The problem is, there is no suitable location to post this. Under all Scripting (although it really should be called Scripting/Programming, or software creation and adaptation) category, there is "Html, CSS and Javascript" (which should really be titled HTML, CSS and JavaScript, anyway), "Php and MySQL" (which should equally be titled "PHP and MySQL", or even "PHP and SQL", given that SQL is basically uniform with only small divergences), "Website Software" and "Others". The problem here, is that there's no forum through which to discuss

Theory
General programming concepts (i.e. factories, MVC, whatever)
Applications
Applied systems (such as an alternative way of calculating the ratings I aforementioned)

or basically anything else programming-related with the exception of rudimentary support for various languages. Given that this is a forum which is nearly entirely oriented at people interested in such things (even if it's just HTML or CMS usage), this could really be improved. Also, it may be more profitable for Bondings to make incoming traffic from Google for people looking for such things (i.e. if somebody wants to learn about the pros and cons of using the model-view-controller pattern) and thus would generate revenue for Frihost.

Really, I'd be glad to see this board implemented and would try to actively post in it, so I should hope that it can be created-- and can't see any reasons why it can't be. ...

The featured discussions block is not updated enough... it could be put to much better use.

I understand that this is because it is difficult to update, Bondings is the only one who can, and Bondings is busy...

A simple suggestion: Give more people (Mods, or at least a few, select Mods) the authority to update it.

Quality of posts is encouraged, and indeed rewarded by a greater number of points for those posts deemed more valuable.

As writing a quality post takes much longer and much more energy than writing several shorter or simpler posts, and reflects a certain commitment to the standards of the community, do you believe that Frihoster ranking should take into account the

quality

of the posts, not just their number?

A simple way to do so would be to multiply each post by a factor corresponding to its quality as already measured at the time the message is posted. For instance, instead of adding 1 for each post, the meter could add PointsOfPost/2.5. Thus, a post rated 4 would add 1.6 while a post rated 2 would add 0.8.

(Alternate possibilities of calculation exist).

What do you think? The bottom line is of course the question of

what

ranking should reflect. I believe quality should be rewarded in the ranking system, as it is in many areas (business, science, art, etc.).

I think people need to be discouraged from making copy-paste posts that do not clearly discuss why the copy-paste is being used. Posts that only consist of copy-paste content without saying what it is about do not look good from a standard point of view, also encourages people to use this without really discussing it. Do you think it would be feasible to make it a rule that if the posting should only consist of a copy-paste quote, that it will be removed from the forum? If this could be done automatically with code, then that may help to get rid of spam too and help the moderators?

There has to be a lead paragraph which explains the purpose of using the quote from a third-party source, and why the poster is using that quote with regard to the discussion. Otherwise the post cannot really be meaningful as there is no real contribution from the author of the post. It also cannot really count as a post that has been made by the person who made a post with only copy-paste content.

If the general chat forum should be the last option to choose, should it not also be the last option on the page?
I suspect much of the problem is that when someone is trying to find a place for their new thread, the General Chat section is the

first

one they see that works.

Sure, some will still scroll down to the bottom to find it because they're to lazy to consider where it might go, but if they at least have to scroll past all the other forums, the one where it fits better might catch their eye.

Frihost should have some sort of off-site news feeds, like on a free news feed site or a free blog site like wordpress.com. This way, if someone like the denial-of-service attack that we just had ever happens again, we can keep updated, even if the servers are down.

I'm an avid user of Google Chrome, but when I come on to these forums and want to post something, the frihost forum always messes up displaying my text until I resize my typing window.. The text either is not displayed or is ghosted.......

please note: this only happens in the text blocks where you type the text before you post a message..... (the box I am typing in right now)
