Travel and Countries : US Thanksgiving Travel

Is anyone else flying in the next few days for the Thanksgiving holiday here in the America? My wife and I are flying tomorrow and I have been hearing mixed feedback on how the airports are going to be. Some are saying that the volume of travelers will be down because more people will be driving; however, those flying will be the less experienced travelers than thus slowing down the security lines due to their lack of knowledge of the FAA rules.

Also, I'm having to bite the bullet on the baggage fees because my wife can not travel without some of her make-up and hair products thus we will be checking a bag. I'll be paying $20 each way so my wife can have her shampoo. I was going to suggest that we just buy her some when we get there but then she informed me how much it cost..... sadly it is cheaper to pay the baggage fee

I have just completed my third tour to China, and this last trip is to Szechuan (4 provinces).

The places of nature are beautiful, but I have some bad experiences.

The tours will always end up with free foot massage, and while you are rooted, they will sent their so-called professors to tell you that you have risks of all kinds of illness, and to be rip of these illness you will have to buy their pills.

Often 3 months supply costing US dollars 2,000 - for 3 boxes of pills.

If you refused, then they will start threatening that you illness will escalate, to the point of cursing etc.

I really feel the disgust of these pressuring selling tricks - or I may simply said "Watch out for the conman of China.

The tour guides are no better, as they join in the conning - as they too get commissions from that.

It really makes me feel that China is not really putting a good reputation for their tourism.

Scooter ride round the Yorkshire lighthouses

Travel and Countries : Scooter ride round the Yorkshire lighthouses

Goole docks at 8am on a Sunday morning in November....a world of high steel fences & padlocked gates (did they know I was coming?)
The lighthouse was moved west to Goole from the Ouse/Trent where both rivers flow into the Humber, and is now just there for decor, beside the pond of the Goole Model Boat Owners Club.

On then to Paull, at the eastern side of Hull on the Humber. After a grey start the morning was brightening up & looked set for a great day.

Half a mile along the banks of the Humber are the Thorngumbald High & Thorngumbald Low lights, 100 yards or so apart. From the main road I'd to ride/push the scooter 800 yards or so across a nature reserve...not something I felt comfortable doing, as dog-walkers were out enjoying their stroll....but a man's gotta do, and all that !
The barred/padlocked barriers were a problem, but Stripey George just slid nicely underneath!
The North Sea Ferry terminal in Hull is in the background.

On then to Spurn Point, surprisingly a long way past Hull; a 4-miles long spit of land at the mouth of the Humber Estuary...treacherous for most part of the ride along, as sand drifts in large banks over the road...fell off there a couple of years ago !!
The main "Spurn High" lighthouse - disused today, but an impressive sight.

Actually in the estuary is the older "Spurn Low" light - converted years ago to a water storage tank. George was showing off a bit here with his head for heights!

Turning north now, following the coast proper, up to Withernsea...some super scooter riding to be had out there...no cars around, and lots of corners on mainly good roads.
The lighthouse is inland, in the middle of the town, which seems a bit odd.

I was starting to wonder about time now...I'd only got 'til 4pm in good light & still had to make another four stops. I'd left my mobile at home; my only timepiece and, more importantly, my breakdown recovery lifeline, just in case !
Onwards another 25 miles or so to Flamborough, north/east of Bridlington; I'd photographed these lighthouses a couple of weeks ago while visiting the National Scooter Rally there, but this was an All-13-lighthouses-in-Yorkshire-in-one-day jobbie, so I'd to make the trek out there again.
Flamborough Head lighthouse (built 1800's), set on stunning chalk cliffs.

The Chalk Tower, built in the 1600's stands nearby. Intended to accommodate a fire beacon in the top, recent research suggests it was neven lit though. Now sits beside a couple of the tees at Flamborough Golf Club.

20-odd miles up to Scarborough nowmy favourite area in North Yorkshire. I got held up in the Sunday-outing traffic, so took some quick snaps from the south end of the south bay & cracked on up towards Whitby.

The road from Scarborough to Whitby has to be the best short stretch of scooter riding road I know.20 miles or so of undulating tarmac, moorland, forestry, old stone villages, all with brilliant views to the right of the coast & left of the North York Moors.
The next lighthouse is one not many know oftucked away on remote cliffs about a mile south of Whitby. Accessible only via a single track lane, straight through a working dairy farm yard (yep the scooter got caked in sh.omething!), across farmers fields & finally down to the lane's end where the lighthouse sits, with only a neighbouring disused foghorn station for company.
I'm parked here inside their gate, on their driveway, so I took a quick snap & cleared off.

Back through the ankle deep cow dung & into civilisation1 mile down the road we're in Whitby for the final picture. ...

No doubt someone has commented on this country but i'm starting a new topic anyway.
Been back a couple of weeks from Sunny Spain (South about an hour from Malaga airport),
First time back for 10 years. I used to live in England and visit it ever 3 or 4 years,
First viswit on honeymoon in 1983.
1983. You could buy a weeks groceries for half the price compared to the UK and eating out was very cheap.
Loved going back to this beautiful countryu but unfortunately it costs more to live ther than Canada and even England.

Taxi 1 hour cost 100 Euros which is about 170 Canadian at the moment or over 100 quid UK
Nice meal out (No booze) 70 Euro's per head.

Well worth going back for me, despite the cost.

Tucumcari, New Mexico. It can be found on a map along the I-40 near the eastern edge of New Mexico. One might wonder what a small town like this one is like.

For us, we meant to pass through and go to Texas in our RV. We broke down just east of Tucumcari instead with cracked head gaskets that costed us over $5000 to fix. And yes, we feel that we were taken advantage of by the service center that repaired our RV.

When we were first checking out Tucumcari, we thought, "what a cute little town." It was quiet, not a whole lot of traffic, and felt that we could make an okay income here while we recover from the financial drain we experienced from the RV repair. Although we made a few friends, we began to learn more and more about the town and how dark and depressing it has become over the years.

Once upon a time, Tucumcari was a thriving little town along Route 66. It was a happy and exciting time. When Route 66 died as a result of the Interstate, some of the life started to drain away from the town. It still had life, though. However, once the trucking and railroad industry moved away from the town, then that's when the life drained away from the town. ...

With immediate effect the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai (BOM) is scheduled to be closed every Tuesday between 12 noon and 6pm (local time â a total of six hours) until March 2010. In addition, the second runway at BOM has been shut until 31 January 2010 for repair work.
This would not only mean that flight operations would be suspended during that time, but departing and arriving flights prior to the closure will have to stick strictly to schedule in order to avoid major delays or diversions to other airports.

In order to avoid last minute hassles, we would like to remind all travelling to and from Mumbai on any one Tuesdays to contact respective airlines to check your flight's status and to reconfirm your departure time prior to leaving for the airport. You have to make New York a must go place for a holiday. It is a fantastic place to stay and the atmosphere is great. It is called the city that doesn't sleep and that was true when i went it was the first night and our hotel window was facing a block of flats and that night the police raided it at about 3 o clock in the morning. It was really exciting to watch. Also if you go make sure to visit the apple shop and the massive toy shop.

In the UK, are there any required regular inspections of a vehicle to make sure it is roadworthy and/or meets emissions standards?

I'm thinking of putting Lakenheath as my #1 base of preference to transfer to, and if I did go, I would bring this:

It would struggle with any road worthiness test, and certainly fail any emissions test though. So, is that something I would have to worry about in the UK?

just a note to say went to vegas for a trip

planet hollywood great hotel, really is good

when you book in at the desk, be careful when going to the elevators

on the way to the elevators, had an employee say "hey welcome, come here and pick up your free comps" great i thought (however these are not employees of planet hollywood)

bad news, the planet hollywood is in a venture with westgate and the Ph Towers are actual time shares, great if you want a piece of vegas, although the view from PH is better than the towers

basically if you are married and earn over $60,000 they want you, they are also out the front and in the miracle mile shop area as well.

arrived at 11pm and nearly got taken in by it, just a heads up, just be polite say no and walk away if not interested, so far this is the ony one on the strip

Ok, so I was wondering if anyone has had any extreme experiences during travels, that more or less turned the whole thing upside down, or just plainly ruined the already planned?

I had one such thing happening to me some years ago, when in the middle of one of those classic coast to coast trips in the US. We had started out in Virginia, buying a car and for the next 1½ month drove towards the west coast (in a non-direct manner). One of the primary goals was definitely to go to Grand Canyon and Las Vegas, and well to make a long story short, about 20 km from GC our motor died, and we had to be towed all the way to Flagstaff, thereby missing the opportunity to go to these places. It's not that extreme in any sense, and in fact the day it happened turned out pretty cool anyways, but still, I'd like to hear if anyone has had any defining encounters, that changed the whole 'idea' of the travels...

I must recommend Budapest in Hungary if anyone is in Europe. My friend recommended we go there and I hadn't heard much about it. Well...it was amazing. Of course, timing is essential -- we arrived in early June right when the weather warmed up. The city is split in two by a river -- Buda (old city) and Pest (new city).

Budapest has great wines and outdoor markets, but best of all the Turkish Spas (outdoor pools, etc.).

Well everyone whether there is a giant recession or not I am about to go on vacation to the Royal Sea cliff in Hawaii.

If I wasn't a timeshare owner through Wyndham I would likely not be going but I am so I am... That makes sense right? My wife and I need this vacation more than you can believe so I am quite excited. I will try to post some pictures when I get back.

Is anyone else planing a vacation for this summer?

any body went to visit india..

its really funny.. u will find more than 20 languages over there.. dont forget to read about political evaluation of country. If you visit US, Japan, china, or any other country u will find the same people all over the country. but in india every state is like different country, different languages, different culture.. everything is different.. not the city. city will be having all the people from all the states..
