Hi guys!

I am an up and coming filmmaker and graphic artist. Though my passions encompass a wide range of artistic media, my focus is primarily the crafts of Cinematography and Graphic Design. I'm studying Film & Media at the University of California, Santa Barbara at the moment, and I will be graduating in the coming year. I have created a portfolio website to showcase my works to potential employers and fellow filmmakers and artists and would like for YOU to check it out! in school we had to draw something surrealistic. Yeah, thats my work.
And afterwards I had the idea to do something with it in photoshop...

I know, the sun and the tin aren't perfect, but I'm quite happy with the result. ^^

Recently a friend of my gave me a gift , a camera. Something I always wanted. A good camera with a telephoto lens . Its a Canon photo shot SX10 IS, A great camera for a beginner. I always wanted to take photos of Nature and wild life. Now I'm learning Photography.

So I take a week off work, hoping to fix the Lambretta up for the MOT test, but spend most of it in & out the shed because of the rain, and driving my daughter back & forth to college/supermarket shopping etc !
Anyway, the other afternoon I'd 3 hours to kill in Wakefield, waiting for the monster finishing college, so I took the camera out with me...

Went into the Dales earlier this week with a friend from the camera club, hoping to get some good waterfall shots and also Ribblehead Viaduct in the sunset. Through the arches is Whernside, last on the circuit of the Yorkshire 3 Peaks (3 mountains over 24 miles in 12 hours!!!)...I must say, I'd done only about 5 miles walking that day, but the thought of walking up those 3 big lumps wasn't an attractive one at all.

Okay, I posted this in another thread a while back but didn't get any replies to it.
I need to know the following about Adobe CS4 Production Premium, so if anyone who has used the software could help me with the information I'd greatly appreciate it.

Does CS4 really have a tab feature similar to Visual Studio? Or did I read its specs wrong?
Also I assumed that if you got one of their suites, then instead of opening multiple programs (like Photoshop, Premiere, After Effects, etc.) you just opened one single window for the suite application, and opened whatever program's funcionality you wanted within it as a separate tab.
If it does have that functionality, then it's really cool, and CS4 is for me. If I read/understood wrong, then I'll stick to CS2 for now.

I'm in the middle of a treasure hunt with my camera club....12 riddles, the answer to each is a place in/around Wakefield (city in Northern England).
The idea is to get out with the camera & snap each place, and together with your other 3 team mates, select the best 12 (3 pics per team member) to illustrate all locations.

Ok, well, you all have seen the 2 kinds of films or movies, which you get from

1) Your own video cameras,
2) Videos which can be seen in films, advertisements.. etc..

You can see a different kind of effect of more color richness or something in the ads or films...

you dont get the same thing with your own video cameras, do you..

I wanted to know how those people make those kind of videos, its like, a typical "movie" kind of video, I mean, if you look at older films, of the 80s or so, then there was another typical "movie" kind of video, which you couldn't acheive using a normal V.camera...

I am pretty sure that its the editing, and not the camera that makes the video "movie" like.... (duh!)

Ok, so please just tell me that what kind of software am I looking for... and ya, can you give me some more details on 3D max and stuff, I mean, I think that stuff is only for 3D modeling.. but I guess it can also be used for video editing...

Also, can you give me details on any software that can be use for video editing, as in, not just the picture richness and color, but editing like.. hm... picture in picture, or.. transitions and stuff which look proffessional!

Just looking for some great answers! ...

The preview site there has an amazing abstract orange background sort of thing going on: I see that kind of design all the time, but what the hell does it take to make something like that? 2D design software? 3D? Probably a multitude of things. I was hoping somebody could shed some light on the subject.

My friend and I currently use a Canon GL-2 to make some movies for fun. We wanted to upgrade to something that is HD and we were also looking in to something that shoots 24p (not true film 24p, we're on a budget). We were considering stepping down to a consumer level camera like the Canon VIXIA HV30 with possibly a DOF adapter later (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/553638-REG/Canon__VIXIA_HV30_HDV_High.html) but we also thought that the Sony HDR-FX1000 (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/581316-REG/Sony_HDR_FX1000_HDR_FX1000_Handycam_HDV_Camcorder.html) would be really good in terms of color quality. Is it worth spending a lot more money on the better camera.

We are mostly concerned with getting excellent picture quality, but we are doing this for fun (we'll show movies to people make some DVDs, but we're not making money off of this really).

Just looking for some thoughts. We will sell the GL-2 so it would be nice to use all of that money for the new camera rather than throwing in another $2000

I have recently updated my portfolio page on my website, as it was very messy and took a very long time to load.

I have added a wonderful Flash tiltviewer, which is free and found on this site: http://www.simpleviewer.net/tiltviewer/

It was very easy to install and no hassle involved to quickly link it up with all my photos on my Flickr PhotoStream!

I highly recommend this for any person wishing to display their work in an interesting way.

Hi Everyone,

Has anyone here ever used GIMP before? I use it because it is free and a decent photo editor similar to Photoshop (without a lot of features).

GIMP says about itself:
