Any advice for a 14yo wannabe filmmaker? :P

Filmmaking and Graphics : Any advice for a 14yo wannabe filmmaker? :P

So hey, I thought it would be a nice idea if any established filmmakers (don't worry, by established filmmaker, I really mean
'has filmed'
) out there could share any lessons they've learned from past mistakes or any general advice on what to avoid during the whole process.

It will be a quite useful resource for me, and anyone else expecting they can press the red button on a handycam and improv for 30 straight minutes in bad-lit near-darkness.

Thanks,
Gold Star: 3D Art Work

Filmmaking and Graphics : Gold Star: 3D Art Work

Well, I was experimenting with a couple of effects in Cinema 4D, and wanted to try to create something in a star shape, which had a gold/diamond texture to it, and here is what I came up with.

This was about three hours in Cinema 4D, and about 5 minutes in photoshop to add some text real quick. Let me know what you think.

Stats : 10 Replies

Filmmaking and Graphics : Recommendations for movie making softwares

Hi! I've been trying to learn movie making based on videos and pictures using Windows Movie Maker which I find is a really user-friendly software for a beginner to start with. But I'm starting to run out of ideas with the limited designs and standard templates of word animations and standard transitions available in the software. Any recommendations for good softwares or even freewares for making videos that are not too hard to pick-up?

Stats : 6 Replies

Adding fonts to photoshop

Filmmaking and Graphics : Adding fonts to photoshop

I've accumulated a collection of over 1500 fonts, which I've added to the gimp's list of fonts, but I couldn't find out how to add them to photoshop's fonts. I definitely don't want to add them to the windows font folder, because that would slow down my start up horribly as windows loaded all those fonts. How can I add more fonts to photoshop?
Sometimes having just the right font for the occasion makes all the difference.

Stats : 12 Replies

Filmmaking and Graphics : Ultimate graphics?

I believe everyone has seen the movie Transformers? The graphics are very awesome, and very immersive, but, the question is, How did they do such a thing? I have done motion capture with games before so, my idea is that, they do the same thing, with motion capture scenes and whatnot, and then put that to the graphical Transfomers. Of course, that's just movement, the stunning graphics are also hard to explain. Anybody have any ideas?

Stats : 12 Replies

Filmmaking and Graphics : Adobe users and others

I know that the best software on the market today for Graphics is obviously the Adobe Creative suite. Its made for designers of every type. But what about the others who don't use Adobe products, what else do you use. I have heard of Gimp and Paint.net but are there any other programs that have a good reputation. I know most have a HUGE learning curve. And what about another no-frills version of Adobe Premiere. Most video editors use all the top end stuff. Does anyone have program for video editing that they think excels this???

Stats : 25 Replies

Experienced orchestral film composer available

Filmmaking and Graphics : Experienced orchestral film composer available

Hi!

My name is Mark D'Errico. I'm an experienced film composer. I'm currently looking for new and interesting movies, shorts and documentaries to score.

I specialize in lush orchestral scores for drama, suspense and horror films. I also do rock, pop, electronica and contemporary scores too.

I've scored over 65 feature films, shorts and cartoons ranging from drama to horror to comedy. I'm able to provide you with individual tracks, stems, or completely mastered tracks.

I've been playing keyboards and composing music for over 25 years and I've released 2 CDs. You can listen to many MP3 film score demos on my web site (http://www.markderrico.com ) in many different genres. You can also view my film score credits on my website.

I'm located in Erie, Colorado, USA, however, I work via the internet, so location isn't a problem. My rates are very reasonable. They're also very flexible because I know how much budgets differ.

If you have any questions or if you would like more info about me, you can visit my website ( http://www.markderrico.com , http://www.myspace.com/markderrico ) or simply send me an email (mark@markderrico.com)

Thank you for your time and I hope to hear from you soon!
Holography is here!

Filmmaking and Graphics : Holography is here!

Maybe some of you have seen this...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c0TpDxLfjHc

Sony projected this huge monster over one of Tokyo's rivers.
It's not a
true
hologram though.. one of the YouTube comments says:

ihelia wrote:

All they did was spray a fountain of water in a fan like shape and project a 3D render of "Nessie" onto what (and you can hear them say this) is called the "Mizuno Screen" or rather, "Water Screen." It's not a Hologram.

It's still pretty impressive though!

Stats : 3 Replies

Pro Filmmaking with low resources

Filmmaking and Graphics : Pro Filmmaking with low resources

Did you noticed that a clip recorded with a normal camera (no matter how expensive it is) has a different feeling than those in cinema? The motion seems different....
Do you know any software that makes that feeling?
I want to make a project for my class (like "Minority report" http://imdb.com/title/tt0181689 )
And I would like to give the clip that movie feeling. It would be great if I could add that Steven Spielberg effect .

Stats : 10 Replies

Free contests?

Filmmaking and Graphics : Free contests?

Why aren't there more free contests? I'm really big on free contests that support the indie filmmaker. It's the "free to enter" contests that are rare these days and hard to find. Check out this contest - it's free - (no ridiculous entry fee). And the top prize is $5000 in cash - so there's nothing to lose Yes, I'm biased, but I can't stand contests that charge entry fees. Rock on: http://www.studentfilmmakers.com/edgewise-media/

Stats : 3 Replies

Filmmaking and Graphics : Stitching multiple linear photos

Anyone can suggest a stitching tool for WIN, that will enable me to get the photos into one complete picture. I lost my software for my Canon camera - that does this.

Is there a freeware I can use - previously has tried Hugin v7, but seem unfamiliar now, as I tried it again.

Filmmaking and Graphics : Time Lapse Photography

You've seen it time and time again: things in motion way way faster than they should be, seemingly zipping by. This is called time lapse photography and is accomplished by setting a camera up to take a frame over a predetermined period of time every few seconds or minutes. They're not easy to set up, but I actually have one in production that I will gladly post here upon its completion. I wanted to share with you my favorite time lapse though, so here it is:

Filmmaking and Graphics : Looking for someone to make a GIF.

What I'm looking for is a black background, with a guitar tube not lit up with a radio tower above it or something, then light it up and make like static beams coming from the top of the tower. Something like that. I'm trying to get something for the main page for my online radio. Any other suggestions would be nice too! Thanks!

Stats : 2 Replies
