Economics and Marketing : people buying in south america?

I dont know if it is only my perception but in the las month i saw 5 american guys buying houses, apartments and a farm here in Ecuador, I commented about it with a colombian friend and he told me he saw the same thing in Bogota: american people buying buildings.

Does some one else can contribute about it? or it is only a perception for 2 south american guys?

i think not

universities, institutions, governments et all spent billions of dollars each year to train millions of economists for what? do "we" understand economies any better for it? do we act RESPONSIBLY to run theis shop we call earth? used to be that you want something you find somebody who has it and you agree a "price". i know thats very simplistic but in principle, thats business.
of course we made this simple transaction and business principle so complicated that nobody really understand anymore how it works. so we bugger it up.
money used to be a symbol, a "promise", an abstract to make barter easier - we put money between the apple and the loaf of bread to put "value" to it.
seems that now most times we put that value to money itself - forgetting the basic principle of supply and demand of GOODS.

then we bugger it up, the little guy loses his shirt again, the rich guy gets just a little big richer, the big corporations get bailed out.

AND WE DON'T LEARN A DAMN THING FROM IT.

I still don't think we're in a recession. The media doesn't help anything any president that says he can stop or cause the opposite is a LIAR. Presidents cannot change/affect the economy like some think they can. And I'm not sure who said this, but it wasn't me; "The media has successfully predicted 38 of the last 2 recessions." Think about that next time the media is talking about a recession.

I was reading something the other day in a marketing magazine where there tends to be a moving shift into consumers interest into business that have an ethical basis. It was saying that fast becoming some of the more common questions before "how much can you do it for?" are questions like: "is it environmentally friendly", "Is your business affiliated with any sort of charity". I have always felt that the way Microsoft has been developed has been one of "all is fair in business" by kicking down anybody who might want to share the spotlight. However the Google brand to me has always come across to me to being more ethical and cooperative with the broader community... I dont have much to back this up but by the general feeling of the bran I have gotten seeing it grow over the years.

Does anybody else have an opinion on this sort form of marketing (does it influence you) and how do you think these to companies stand up (from an ethical stand point at least)?

I am a keen investor, but when I heard that American lawmakers rejected the congress bill it sent shivers down my spine. The main reason not to bail out the Fat Cats!

Please!!! I have heard american people say that the bill should fail, the banks should pick up after themselves and the FAT Cats...

People this aint like the dot com bubble burst... this is the finance industry! The very back bone of world's economics. If america goes down consider a huge domino's affect effecting everyone!

America spends trillions on war, has no health care system and when something really important was needed it was rejected... America needs to remove its war mentality for a stable infrastructure...

Hello, this is my first post. In this post I have analyzed certain repeating "statement" from the news.

"The Federal Reserve Bank of New York's came in two operations injecting cash into temporary reserves, a move aimed to help ease a strained financial system in danger of freezing up."
What does it mean to freeze up?
No one is investing.
It resulted in a sharp shrinking of stock buying demand, because there were not enough assets for buying securities.
The Russian government has reduced the interest rates, in order to offset the freeze up.
China buys back stock and cut taxes in order to escape the freeze up.
"Government intervention in the stock market can never work. Buying shares in insolvent companies headed for bankruptcy will never make those shares worth anything no matter how many shares the government buys. Whatever the natural price level of any equity, if the government, any government offers to buy shares above that price, there will be an unlimited supply of stock until the government owns every share."
An interesting reply:
This action is a symptom of two economies that have developed some productive capacity, but few financial institutions including central banking skills. Mix that with almost no political institutions and you have the sort of thing that leads to the labor theory of value. Employment is the central political issue in China and Russia and it is what is valued. By the way Barney Frank likes that idea, and the rest of the collective members of Congress think it is not all that bad. In the end, capital and capitalist are what make production systems work to provide jobs, and without then "other measures" are required like buying securities. It is stupid, but such things are almost inevitable when governments have no theory of how to get an economy to provide jobs. I suspect we are heading into a global recession or worse, but that no one will be able to do much about it before the damage is done.

Economics and Marketing : Investments that could survive US economy failure...

Looking at the troubling financial news, I was considering putting some of my money into foreign investments as a safety against a total failure of the US economy.
But then I thought to myself, that in a truly devastating economic crash, the USA could drag down these investments with it, making them an ineffective safety investment. The harder I thought, the more I was at a loss to think of an investment that would not be either directly or indirectly harmed by a US economy failure.
The best I could think of would be Russian oil production, but even that would suffer from a much reduced demand for oil worldwide (lowering prices and profits) and it would also indirectly suffer from bad effects to Russia as a whole from the crash.

Can anybody here think of an investment that would be immune to a completely devastating failure of the US economy? Perhaps something that would actually benefit from such a crash (which would help offset the losses stateside) could even be found...

I'm not really thinking about individual companies at the moment, just thinking of various industries in different countries. Once a good industry in a given country was identified, a promising company in that industry could be selected.

It seems to be a tough question for many of us. In fact, I believe none of us would have a exact answer. Even experts and experienced economists have conflicting views as to how long the economic downturn would last. But I would like to hear some speculations.

Personally, I believe in the cyclic motion in economics. Every few years, the direction of the market would turn. Last few years had seen some great economic booms and this downturn seems too natural to happen, though too early and unexpected. My view would be a few years before it rebound back to upward direction. 2015?

I'm sure there are those who are up this year, but most of my invesments are down. I'm not a trader or anything, so I just throw my $$ in the 401k every pay period and also have a few mutual funds I contribute to. Part of me thinks I should keep throwing in $$ to buy shares at the low prices (buy low, sell high), but part of me hates seeing my balance dwindle more and more.

My 401k is down about 30% for the year and 15% overall. My mutual finds are down about 17%. "Luckily" I have over 30 years of work to look forward to the balance rising, but still...

* The UK government unveiled a package of measures aimed at rescuing the banking system which could add up to £400bn ($692bn).

* US Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson said that more financial firms were expected to fail in the US despite a $700bn government bail-out programme.
* The Federal Reserve has agreed to provide insurer American International Group with a $37.8bn loan on top of the $85bn loan given to the troubled firm last month.

* Italy also unveiled details of a banking rescue plan that could involve the government taking stakes in failing banks.

* All UK savers with accounts in the closed Icelandic internet bank Icesave were told they would get all their money back.
* The Treasury arranged for more than £3bn of UK savers' money held with Icelandic banks Kaupthing Edge and Heritable Bank to be transferred to ING Direct UK.
* Iceland's prime minister said he hoped to find a "mutually satisfactory solution" to the loss of UK Icesave deposits after Prime Minister Gordon Brown threatened to sue Iceland to recover the money.

'Arrest the slide'

Responding to the interest rate cut, UK manufacturers' group the EEF welcomed the "bold and decisive move" it hoped would "arrest the current crisis and collapse in confidence".

"Coupled with the plan to shore up the financial system today's co-ordinated moves should help arrest the potential slide into depression," said the EEF's chief economist Steve Radley.

Chief international economist at Capital Economics, Julian Jessop, said that the rate cut would "provide at least a temporary boost to confidence".

But he added: "We fear that there is still a lot more work to do.

"The fact that the central banks have had to take such extreme measures underlines how bad market conditions have become."

He also warned that rate cuts were not a complete solution, pointing out the Fed had already cut rates from 5.25% in September last year to 2% before the latest move - action which happened "without rescuing either the financial system or the real economy."

With the seemingly ever increasing fuel prices, what are people doing about this ?

It is possible to change providers, however most of them are putting up their prices... so there isn't much of a saving from one to the other....

Obviously we can cut down on the energy used in order to reduce the outgoings... but again... how much can we do...

- boiler insulation
- roof and cavity wall insulation

will help... but what about the other option...

Generating electricity... and ideally selling any excess to the energy companies...

As I understand it, in order to generate sufficient electricity I need to look into Photo Voltaic solar panels... as the regular panels don't generate enough... but there is also the option of wind turbines.

Does anyone out there have any experience in this ? And any idea on cost ?

I'd like to think that any initial outlay would be showing some sort of return (or at least a balance) within 5 or so years....

hmm.. i think forex is more stable and can give u moer rewad though there are more risk in it /.. and it requires the damn knowledge ,,
i'll talk about pakistan's stock exchange... it sometimes rapidly increase the points and sometimes it collapse badly .. in previous month invester had lost 3 billion Dollars and which is quite bigger amount .. it happened aftrer regular interval .. thats why i think money exchange is much better then the shares exchange./// i'll post more difference in future.

i want to get into stocks and the forex market but i have almost no knowledge of how it works. if i buy some stocks and the company doesn't make it or goes down, would i have to pay anything back. is buying stocks the same thing as investing? whats the best stocks to buy today. are there any stocks that are guarenteed to profit no matter how little the profit is? what sites would i go to to get started buying stocks and working on the forex market? please help a 9 to 5 just aint cutting it.

My kids "earn" points. Each point is worth 1/2 cent. They get 200 points for doing the dishes...40 points for each can of trash that they bag up and take outside. They get 15 points for loading the washer, taking the clothes from the dryer, putting them in a basket... And since no one in our house LIKES folding laundry - at the end of the week we fold that weeks clothes and put them away and that is worth 100 points.

(I have 2 girls living with me at home....My son lives with his dad) The girls get to spend their points when we go out. They have to save up their points to do certain things. If they want something and I say "no", they have the power to "override" my decision and spend their points on it, and get it, or do a certain thing (like go out to eat) anyway. If they don't have the points, this encourages them to think about "saving up" for what they want.

So what are everyone's thoughts about this system? ...

How safe is it to invest in the stock Market... Are there any rules to follow before investing in a company... How does the price of shares work... I mean how can the price fluctuate so much everyday.. On what basis are the calculations made.. I see the stocks of some companies swinging by 4-5% everyday.. does it mean that the company is doing so well that its value increases by the day.. and when a stock falls is it the indication of the company doing badly... Any views and answers on these question ?

Seriously, why haven't we done it yet?

the US dollar is at an all time low, and since I'm in Australia for a year, it means i've lost alot of money.

I hope there is a global currency, it will clear things up everywhere.

Does anyone know of an attorney, accountant, or organization that helps new charities with getting started. Filing for 501c3 and such. I need an attorney, accountant, or organization that would be willing to work pro-bono or willing to donate their time to help me get started so I can feed some hungary people. There are many consultants out there but they want to charge way to much. This in time will be a HUGE organization, we just need help getting started. Thanks.

Hello everyone...

The only knowledge I have on this topic is from my high school economics class, but recently I've been assessing the various types of investments. As it stands, I have only ever used savings accounts and CDs. I'm just curious how risky money market investments are. I'd like to invest some of my extra money without too high of a risk for when I'm through with college, but I'd like to have as little of a risk as possible. Can anyone make any suggestions?

India's economy is booming at an amazing rate. The BSE sensex in 2003 was at 5000 points. It touched 10,000 points for the first time in Feb '06. Then 15,000 points in July '07. In in just three months it closed at above 18,000 points in Oct '07. Now my question is isn't every boom followed by a bust or is that not necessary. Or is India's economy moving towards something akin to the Great Depression.
