"What Happens To Your Body If You Drink A Coke Right No

Health and Beauty : "What Happens To Your Body If You Drink A Coke Right No

Have you ever wondered why Coke comes with a smile? It's because it gets you high. They took the cocaine out almost a hundred years ago. You know why? It was redundant.

In The First 10 minutes: 10 teaspoons of sugar hit your system. (100% of your recommended daily intake.) You don't immediately vomit from the overwhelming sweetness because phosphoric acid cuts the flavor allowing you to keep it down.
20 minutes: Your blood sugar spikes, causing an insulin burst. Your liver responds to this by turning any sugar it can get its hands on into fat. (There's plenty of that at this particular moment)
40 minutes: Caffeine absorption is complete. Your pupils dilate, your blood pressure rises, as a response your livers dumps more sugar into your bloodstream. ...

Stats : 3 Replies

Health and Beauty : How often do you shave your legs?

I am trying to recover my womanhood...I think between work and son..I have forgoten and that is not fair to me or my husband.

So, I always used wax my legs, but then I moved to the US and couldn't find a good place that would do that for me, so I tryed the roll-on to do at home, but its such a pain and takes so long...

Now I have decided to shave, even though I was told my whole life not to do that because then hairs come out even thicker....but if I want to have smooth legs on a daily basis what other choise I have?

so, how often do you shave your legs? and do you have any recommendations on how to delay growth and keep my legs smooth as long as possible?

Thanks!

Stats : 2 Replies

Paleo Diet/Primal lifestyle

Health and Beauty : Paleo Diet/Primal lifestyle

Ok, so I was browsing the web and came across a site called Mark's Daily Apple. This guy has written a book called the Primal Blueprint. It's both a diet and exercise system, and a lifestyle. He's not the first or only person to research and advocate this, there is also a book called the Paleo Diet, and a number of others.

The premise is this:
Human beings have been around for 2.5 Million years. During the first 2.49 million we ate mostly lean meats, eggs, nuts, seeds, and vegetables - no refined grains, no refined sugars, no grain-fed cattle or assembly line chickens - agriculture only having been discovered about 10,000 years ago. So, we have evolved to handle a diet high in protein and vegetables, but not carbs and simple sugars. Now, most diet related illnesses (diabetes, heart disease, obesity, etc...) do not apply selective evolutionary pressure because most folks who dies from these things have already had children. So, we have never adapted to handle a diet of mostly grains.

He puts forth that the ideal human diet should be high in healthy fats, protein, and vegetables, and devoid (to varying degrees) of grains, starchy roots, legumes, and dairy.

He also advocates strength training in the form of short, intense strength training workouts two to three times a week, sprinting at least once a week, and lots of slow moving around whenever possible- as opposed to frequent low-intensity workouts. ...

Stats : 6 Replies

The Amazing Cucumber

Health and Beauty : The Amazing Cucumber

This information was in The New York Times several weeks ago as part of
their "Spotlight on the Home" series that highlighted creative and fanciful
ways to solve common problems.

1. Cucumbers contain most of the vitamins you need every day, just one
cucumber contains Vitamin B1, Vitamin B2, Vitamin B3, Vitamin B5, Vitamin
B6, Folic Acid, Vitamin C, Calcium, Iron, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Potassium
and Zinc.

2. Feeling tired in the afternoon, put down the caffeinated soda and pick up
a cucumber. Cucumbers are a good source of B Vitamins and Carbohydrates
that can provide that quick pick-me-up that can last for hours.

3. Tired of your bathroom mirror fogging up after a shower? Try rubbing a
cucumber slice along the mirror, it will eliminate the fog and provide a
soothing, spa-like fragrance.

4. Are grubs and slugs ruining your planting beds? Place a few slices in a
small pie tin and your garden will be free of pests all season long. The
chemicals in the cucumber react with the aluminum to give off a scent
undetectable to humans but drive garden pests crazy and make them flee the
area.

5. Looking for a fast and easy way to remove cellulite before going out or
to the pool? ...

Stats : 4 Replies

A profoundly sick experiment

Health and Beauty : A profoundly sick experiment

I was talking with a friend of mine, who is a doctor, and we were discussing psychology and the distinction between sanity and
in
sanity. We got on the topic of the Rosenhan experiment, which, if you haven't heard of it, was a psychological experiment held in 1972 to investigate the legitimacy of how patients were diagnosed(I will provide a link below for more info on it).

Basically, it goes like this:
Psychologist David Rosenhan took a number of people(12 I think) who were perfectly healthy, and had them go to 12 different psychiatric hospitals. They were to tell only one lie, which was that they were having auditory hallucinations. The pseudo-patients were supposed to be diagnosed, and presumably cleared of any mental illness(as they were all fine). They ended up getting admitted, some of them forcibly, and at least one was made to stay for up to two months. They were given psychotropic medications and were only allowed to leave after they first admitted to being mentally ill, then accepting treatment and thus getting "better".

The study was released, and needless to say, the psychiatric community reeled at this. One hospital in particular, who was a target of the experiment, decided to challenge Rosenhan with doing it again, promising that they could easily identify the impostor pseudo-patients. Rosenhan agreed, and the new experiment commenced.

After some time, the hospital identified 41 impostors, and released them all as fakes. Much to their dismay, Rosenhan revealed that he hadn't sent
any
impostors the second time. ...

Stats : 12 Replies

"Vitamin D"

Health and Beauty : "Vitamin D"

I recently heard some new (to me) information on Vitamin D. Wikipedia says, "Vitamin D is a group of fat-soluble prohormones." It's not really a vitamin like the other main ones; A, B, C, etc.

The main conclusion was most of us are D deficient. It's in very few of our foods and we need some sunlight for the chemical reactions. Part of the problem is most likely related to people being inside and out of the sun more these days.

What do you know about D and do you know the level of it in your body? Eat right and stay healthy.

Stats : 9 Replies

Considering raw food diet- cookbook or website suggestions?

Health and Beauty : Considering raw food diet- cookbook or website suggestions?

I live in Florida and oh, my GOD it's so hot and sticky. Once again, just like every summer, I find myself positively ill at the very thought of cooking and/or eating a hot meal, and I'm getting bored with sandwiches and salads, and hate spending a ton of money at delis to avoid cooking.

I could care less about health benefits or weight loss, the appeal of raw food to me is that I just want home-made food without heating up the kitchen. As much as I love to cook, it's just too bloody hot. My house is tiny, so cooking a meal heats up the whole place, and I simply can't afford to blast the air conditioning to keep it at a livable temperature while (and after) I make dinner.

Can anyone save me some time hunting around the internet, and suggest a good raw food cookbook?

Stats : 4 Replies

Have any 100 calorie meal recipes?

Health and Beauty : Have any 100 calorie meal recipes?

I'm trying to eat a little bit every 2 or 3 hours. To do this I need to limit most of these mini meals to about 100 calories. I would prefer to to keep the carbs down and the proteins up to about 10 grams. EAS does have a carb control drink that has 110 calories, 4 carbs and 17 grams of protein. They work pretty good for a snack.

Preplanning seems to be essential to eating this way. So, I'm looking for 100 calorie recipes.

Stats : 11 Replies

Fast cooking with few ingredients?

Health and Beauty : Fast cooking with few ingredients?

I actually have a problem with finding recipes online. Entering "simple" and "fast" in a search box shows 1.5 hrs baking with several unusual ingredients...

Can you help with advice on preparing fast, simple and healthy food for an adult, without spending hours 3x a day on its preparation?

Note that I do not have a freezer chest for cooking once a week, and usual refrigerator has auto defrost feature.

Thanks.

Stats : 12 Replies

Health and Beauty : Painful Sex

Quote:

A large number of women are said to suffer from painful sex at some time or the other in their lives. In majority this remains unspoken and the women takes it that it may be a normal phenomenon or some think that they are alone with this problem. This condition is known as Dysparennia. Some amount of pain during sex is common and goes off after sometime.

Common causes of Pain during sex:

* Vaginal Dryness
* Vaginismus
* Vaginitis
* Lichen Sclerosis
* Vulvadynia
* Vestibulitis
* Cystitis
* Menopausal Thining
* Endometriosis
* Pelvic Inflammatory Diseases
* Radiation Scarring

Vaginal Dryness - is one of the most common causes of pain during sex especially in young brides because of ignorance, insufficient arousal, inadequate foreplay, fear of pregnancy, stress or hormonal imbalance.

Vaginismus - is a phenomenon in which the muscles at the vaginal opening constrict into tight spasm as soon as intercourse is attempted. This is a protective response against penetration and can happen specially with brides because of extreme fear, inhibition, improper sex education, childhood trauma, witnessing an unpleasant sexual activity. This results in a vicious circle of pain and fear.

Health and Beauty : whitening teeth, does it work

I recently saw a video on youtube, in which a person took some baking powder, along with some strawberries and mushed them around.. and the video said that the mixture will help in whitening teeth.

I myself think that this is stupid, and you'd probably get nowhere by using this method.. but what do you think...

Stats : 5 Replies

Health and Beauty : Marshmallow sandwich!?What is it like?

Have you ever eaten marshmallow and peanuts butter sandwiches ? Or have you ever seen somebody eating them?
It was a common-sense- broken shock for me to read such a word in a novel.
How do you make it? what's the exact ingredients?
I'm scared but very curious actually.

Stats : 8 Replies

Children, youth or elders- every body loves to eat noodles when hungry. It is their first preference when instant food is required. In today’s fast moving era the demand for instant food, i.e., Noodles is increasing at tremendous rate. But very few people knew the right technique to prepare noodles. It can prove dangerous to life also. Wax coating over noodles could prove futile to any one consuming it.

Traditional way to prepare noodles is WRONG

Generally people use the common and simple technique to prepare noodles. In this method noodles are dip into water along with spices. It is cooked for 2-3 minutes and it is ready to serve and eat. But this way to prepare noodles is WRONG. By doing this you directly boil the Mono Sodium Glutamate (MSG) or popularly known as “AZinomoto” mixed with spices provided with noodles packets. ...

...

Stats : 1 Post

Chicken wings

Health and Beauty : Chicken wings

AVOID Eating Chicken WINGS frequently - Especially Ladies

Avoid eating chicken wings frequently - ladies especially! a true story...

A friend of mine recently had a growth in her womb and she underwent an operation to remove the cyst. The cyst removed was filled with a dark coloured blood. She thought that she would be recovered after the surgery but she was terribly wrong.

A relapse occurred just a few months later. Distressed, she rushed down to her gynecologist for a consultation.

During her consultation, her doctor asked her a question that puzzled her. He ask if she was a frequent consumer of chicken wings and she replied yes wondering how he knew of her eating habits.

You see, the truth is in this modern day and age; chickens are injected with steroids to accelerate their growth so that the needs of this society can be met. This need is none other than the need for food.

Chickens that are injected with steroids are usually given the shot at the neck or the wings. Therefore, it is in these places that the highest concentration of steroids exists. ...

Stats : 3 Replies

Health and Beauty : LEFT OVER ONIONS ARE POISONOUS

by Zola Gorgon - Author of several cookbooks....

"I have used an onion which has been left in the fridge, and sometimes I don't use a whole one at one time, so save the other half for later. Now with this info, I have changed my mind....will buy smaller onionsin the future.
I had the wonderful privilege of touring Mullins Food Products, makersof mayonnaise. Mullins is huge, and is owned by 11 brothers and sistersin the Mullins family. My friend, Jeanne, is the CEO. Questions about food poisoning came up, and I wanted to share what I learned from a chemist. The guy who gave us our tour is named Ed. He's one of the brothers. Edis a chemistry expert and is involved in developing most of the sauce formula. He's even developed sauce formula for McDonald's. ...

Stats : 4 Replies

Physical effects of stress

Health and Beauty : Physical effects of stress

Physical effects of stress

I am busy with a honors degree in accounting this year and from the beginning of the year I have experienced a lot of stress. Lately I have started to feel the physical effects of this stress. They include:

Sleeping problems.
Tiredness through the day.
Some depression.
Weak immune system.

These symptoms have urged me to do some reading on stress management but the advice I was given did not really help my until I came to realize the following ultimate tress handling statement:

Do not stress.

This sounds funny but it really is the only technique that will help you. You have to come to the realization that you can do only the things that your body allows you to do and the hell with the rest. You must do your best and for the rest adopt a no care attitude.

What techniques worked for you?

Stats : 31 Replies

Health and Beauty : Anyone know how to get rid of burnt food smells?

Does anyone know of a way to get rid of burnt food smells so that one does not have to spray a bunch of chemicals to get rid of the lingering "burnt" smell? Like using bicarbonate of soda for the inside of a fridge, is there a natural trick for "cleaning" the air of "burnt" food smells?

Stats : 9 Replies

Survival Seed Bank

Health and Beauty : Survival Seed Bank

If you see or hear a comercial for http://www.survivalseedbank.com/ be sure and do some due diligence before ordering from them. They want ~$160 total for maybe $40 worth of seeds.

Having seed is a great idea and will store for a long long time if you vacuum pack them and store in a fridge.

Be aware that hybrid seed may produce unfertile plants or plants that may not reproduce accurately.

Here's a company that has a pretty cool downloadable seed catalog of heirloom type stuff.
http://www.seedsavers.org/

I mainly wanted to inform folks about this Survival Seed Bank scam that is being advertised a lot on the radio. But, how do you feel about maintaining your own seed collection?

I have a plastic shoebox that I store them in. I usually put them in a baggie and write on it what it is and when it was collected. I haven't setup a survival bank. But, I do think it's an easy good idea. I'll have to do some thinking about what to include in a seed bank. I think protein is the biggest and hardest thing to plan for.

What growing zone are you in, and what would you include in a survival seed bank?

Stats : 2 Replies

My Weird Phobia - prepare to laugh!

Health and Beauty : My Weird Phobia - prepare to laugh!

(This post was insired by a post a left on another thread)

I suffer from one of the weirdest phobias I know of. I have a phobia of buttons – yes, the kind on clothes.

I hate even saying, writing or even typing the word in that context. I have no trouble saying buttons in relation to remote control buttons or lift (elevator) buttons etc but in the context of clothing it is all very different.

I have suffered from this my entire life and I am at a loss why I have this strange irrational phobia.

I have always had to avoid clothing with them on wherever possible and when it is unavoidable I hate it. I have even cut dates with girls short because they have turned up with the ‘wrong' clothes on!

I believe this phobia has an official name but have never tracked it down yet – anyone know???

Some days are worse than others but they really can knock me sick, especially if they catch me by surprise. Say someone has put one in a drawer and I open it and see it – or worse, TOUCH it!!! UUUUUUURGGHH!!!!

I'll tell you how crazy it is. ...

Stats : 32 Replies

Health and Beauty : blueberries remedy

Blueberries Found to Prevent Alzheimer's

"Just one 200g blueberry smoothie was enough to increase powers of concentration by as much as 20 per cent over the day, and regular consumption of the fruit could lead to a rewiring of a part of the brain that is linked to memory."

(United Kingdom)—News from the Telegraph U.K. says scientists have found that blueberries can increase your attention div class="detail" in the short term and can maintain a healthy mind in the long term.

According to the report, they found that just one 200g blueberry smoothie was enough to increase powers of concentration by as much as 20 per cent over the day, and regular consumption of the fruit could lead to a rewiring of a part of the brain that is linked to memory. (Photo by: Lisa Norwood)

Dr. Jeremy Spencer, a molecular nutritionist at the University of Reading who carried out the latest study, is quoted as saying he believes its affect on the mind has more to do with its ability to increase the blood flow to the brain, and that flavonoid rich foods, which also include chocolate, spinach and some fruit juices, can re-structure the brain and ward off memory loss associated with Alzheimer's.

"I think that the findings were impressive and have the potential in the long term to lead to cognitive improvement," he said.

It's not the first time blueberries have been connected with battling Alzheimer's disease, but each study proving that is the case takes scientists a step closer to a cure.

Blueberry is food for thought
A blueberry smoothie at breakfast can stop your powers of concentration waning in the afternoon - and even help fight dementia in the long term, new research suggests.

Health and Beauty : Eternal McDonalds

When considering fast food, one usually considers the nutritional value of the meal, pitted against the convenience and tastiness thereof. Right?

Here is something new to consider.

The next time you order a McDonalds hamburger (or one from any of several fast food chains), remember that what your are putting into your mouth, if left on a shelf for 12 years, would remain virtually unchanged.

Stats : 14 Replies

What would you do if you had a bad haircut?

Health and Beauty : What would you do if you had a bad haircut?

Simple question. But not a simple answer.

I guess the first thing i would do is go crazy and start raging. Then calm down and start raging again. then try to find ways to move my hair around to make it look better. if that fails, then i try to look for ways to cut it a little bit to make it look better. If i can't do that, i tell my friends before hand and wine and weep that i have a bad haircut so they don't get surprised the next day.

Then i just basically wait for the hair to grow back again.

Another solution is to wear a beanie, hat or hoodie. For women, you can just wear hair accessories or other stuff to distract the attention from your hair, put your hair in a ponytail or wear a scarf.

What would you do?

Stats : 60 Replies

going bananas

Health and Beauty : going bananas

The fully ripe banana produces a substance called TNF which has the ability to combat abnormal cells.

As the banana ripens, it develops dark spots or patches on the skin. The more dark patches it has, the higher will be its' immunity enhancement quality.

According to a Japanese scientific research, banana contains TNF which has anti-cancer properties. The degree of anti-cancer effect
corresponds to the degree of ripeness of the fruit, i.e. the riper the banana, the better the anti-cancer quality.

In an animal experiment carried out by a professor in Tokyo U comparing the various health benefits of different fruits, using banana, grape, apple, water melon, pineapple, pear and persimmon, it was found that banana gave the best results. It increased the number of white blood cells, enhanced the immunity of the body and produced anti-cancer substance TNF.

The recommendation is to eat 1 to 2 banana a day to increase your body immunity to diseases like cold, flu and others.

According to the Japanese professor, yellow skin bananas with dark spots on it are 8 times more effective in enhancing the property of white blood cells than the green skin version.

Stats : 5 Replies

How to get good, restful sleep?

Health and Beauty : How to get good, restful sleep?

For the last several years, I've been waking up a lot during sleep, so when I wake up in the morning, I am still very tired and it affects my work during the day.

I tried to eliminate all the things that woke me up. It's dark and quiet in my room, I won't eat or drink couple of hours before bed time. I don't read or watch anything too exciting before bed. I still wake up during the night.

I don't know if it matters but I realize changes about my dream. I used to have those crazy, advanturous, not daily life related dreams where the color is usually darker, and the dream is more quiet and steady. Now, I basically dreams about what had happened during the day and it's more noisy and jumpy.

Anyway, how is your sleep? What is your secret of getting a good night sleep?

Stats : 27 Replies

Most of the time it's not too bad, and a couple of Alieve will take care of it, but sometimes he has flare ups that leave nearly every joint in his body hurting, and I've been trying to figure out what causes these sudden flare ups. I did a little research and found out that what he eats can have a big impact on the inflammation in his joints. We're working to change his diet, and so far it seems to be helping.
I wrote an article to put all the tips I found together in one place so maybe it will help someone else:

http://www.ehow.com/how_5310286_relieve-arthritis-pain-food.html

If anyone has any other tips or advice I'd love to read them. I hate seeing him in so much pain - I wish I could just kiss it and make it better like my mom used to do to cuts and scrapes when I was a kid. He tries to be so stoic about it, but I know it's eating him up when he can't be as active as he wants to because of the pain.

Stats : 3 Replies

I'm Trying To Find A Free Dental Clinic...Desperate Need.

Health and Beauty : I'm Trying To Find A Free Dental Clinic...Desperate Need.

One has to exist somewhere. I've had trouble with my teeth since I was a kid, but its gotten out of hand. My one front tooth broke off a couple weeks ago, and tonight I lost another little piece and have been in severe pain. I've broken bones and not felt this bad. Also have a back tooth that is causing all kinds of trouble. All 4 of my top front teeth need removed and a partial plate put in. Only one problem...I'm unemployed, uninsured, and can not get any help from the government or any kind of charity...I've tried everything. For all the work I need its going to run somewhere in the $10,000 range...there's no way I can afford that even if I had a job right now.

I can't take anymore of this pain...its hard to eat, sleep or even think half the time. This state has nothing...at this point I don't care if I have to travel clear across the country. I need help. ...

Stats : 5 Replies

Health and Beauty : Big arms workout

Hey, Ive been looking around on some sites about fitness and I found a very simple routine which is for your arms and it looks pretty good compare to the other workout routines i found.

Here it is:
http://www.leehayward.com/arm_workout.htm

All I want to know is how often should I do it? and would it be a good idea to double the amount of everything in it? Thanks.

Stats : 14 Replies

Problems with my new glasses (medical)

Health and Beauty : Problems with my new glasses (medical)

Hello,

I lost my glasses and I went to buy others. I hadn't the old prescription with me so I did a new consultation. I had and I have myopia + astigmatism.
I had only two pair of glasses in my life, I have some questions and I need some help:

1. Why, in two years, for one eye myopia stalled, for the second eye is increased from -0.25 to -1?
2. I don't know how that -1 value was taken but now, after 6 hours of wearing the glasses and 2 weeks without them at all, I realize that looking with no lens and through the lens, the objects seen with the lens "on" seem a little small than when I look at them without lens. Why?
3. Why I have small dizziness (just a feeling, not enough to lose my balance) and small headaches? How long could be the re-adaptation period to wear new glasses? (I repeat: 2 weeks I didn't have it - and it was very hard).
This problems appears only if I look with both eyes through the lenses. If close one eye at the time, the glasses are perfect.

I don't understand how it can be possible? ...

Stats : 2 Replies

Migraine Headaches

Health and Beauty : Migraine Headaches

What's a Migraine ?

Almost everyone gets headaches. You might have one after bumping your head or during a cold or bout with the flu. Some types of headaches may happen only once in a while, whereas others can happen as often as every day. Most headaches produce a dull pain around the front, top, and sides of your head, almost like someone stretched a rubber band around your noggin.

But a migraine is worse than a regular headache. Migraines usually occur about one to four times a month. The pain is often throbbing and on one or both sides of the head. Those with migraines often feel dizzy or sick to their stomachs. During the headache, some are sensitive to light, noise, or smells, and want to sleep. When they wake up, they usually feel better. Most migraines last from 30 minutes to 6 hours but some can last a day or 2.

If you have migraines, you are not alone. ...

Stats : 3 Replies

Quality of life

Health and Beauty : Quality of life

For those of you who have read my other posts about my aunt and her current state of health and her broken ankle, I have a question for you.

I've watched several people that I loved slowly deteriorate and die. Assuming that you are reasonably healthy, at what point would you rather die than continue living? That is, if you were not in horrible pain.

Would it be when you could no longer take care of yourself and live independently? What if you only needed a little help now and again? Or what if you were bedridden and could only get up to go to the bathroom? Or if you were completely bedridden and had to use a bedpan every time you had to go? And you had to have someone feed you and wash you?

Seeing the people I love decline like this has me concerned. I don't think I would want to live like that. But then again, maybe you can't really make that decision unless or until you reach that point.

I mean, really, is it worth all the pain and indignity just so you can lay in bed all alone and stare at the TV all day? ...

Stats : 5 Replies

Do you cook?

Health and Beauty : Do you cook?

I saw a few topics on favorite foods and such, but I'm curious about what people like to cook, or what recipes people have "invented" recently. I love to cook, and I always try to create new things. This very moment, I am eating a Mahi-Mahi Omelette. A basic 3 egg omelette with chucks of pan-sauteed Mahi-Mahi inside. I have to say, it's quite tasty.
What have you come up with recently? And what is your favorite personal culinary creation?

Stats : 68 Replies

Health and Beauty : Benefit of Green Tea

Benefit of Green Tea Introduction

There has been an influx of media coverage about the health benefits of green tea. Most green tea enthusiasts may base their opinions on green tea around their own experiences of the beverage. The Chinese have been drinking green tea for thousands of years due to its miracle working abilities. Green tea has been used by the Chinese for treating minor headaches to much larger matters such as preventing cancer. Many health studies are beginning to shine some light on the facets and benefits of green tea. What are the benefits from green tea that can affect your life? The following are five major benefits of green tea that may substantially change your life.

First Health of Green Tea - Weight Loss

The high concentration of polyphenols in green tea helps to oxidize fat and encourage thermogenesis. Thermogenesis in the body is the rate which the body burns calories. Green tea results in an increase of energy which raises the metabolism, therefore, more weight is lost than normal. As a morning beverage, green tea has a small amount of calories compared to most other beverages that Americans drink in the morning. ...

Stats : 3 Replies
