Websites : Do's & Don'ts of Web Designing

1, DO: Keep your page structured
In the recent months we've seen an explosion of great grid layouts and css files. The most famous (in my opinion) being 960.gs and one of the cooler, more light weight grid systems being the 1kb grid. Following after the structure and balance of a great magazine/newspaper, these grid systems help lay out information in a structured and easy to follow format.

DONT: Just place boxes everywhere
We've all seen these types of websites before 20+ boxes, all different sizes, nothing lining up properly and not on piece that actually grabs your attention because you've just ran into a whirlwind of craziness. if you're a web designer and you cannot properly place items in a structured environment, well, I would't really call yourself a web designer.

2, DO: Focus on what's important
Are you building a website for a business that sells one specific product? If so, make sure that's the focus of the home page. Allow yourself space on the inner pages to place calls to action for that specific item. If you're building a blog that gives out freebies or writes tutorials, make sure they're getting the proper amount of focus and attention. Websites like WOO Themes do a great job and putting forward what their main focus is wordpress themes.

DONT: Place irrelevant ads across your page
If you're going to try and make money from your website/blog, do yourself a favor and lay off the excessive advertisements. If your page loads and has 70% ads and only 30% content, odds are high that people will leave and never come back. Making your ads the #1 priority is a bad idea. ...

Paid version is launched but I stick to the free one cos' using free version is enough in my point of view, you could post any amount of articles per day! you could choose 30 of their blogs to publish your articles on relating to your niches! they have great tutorials on their website so that you could spun your articles and submit them with no problem. I can tell you the results exactly cos' I'm using a lot of different link building methods and I don't know how it helps, but it's free and if you need backlinks and have a handful of articles available on hands, i would definitely recommend you to try it out!

Anyone heard of the site, use it at all?

I got an invite recently and had a look around, and it seems that you login everyday, answer a question, get 4 points (for that day). You can then order different items with those points, from 100 points for a bunch of different games, up to 600 points for consoles.
It almost seems to good to be true.

Has anyone ordered and received anything from them?
I'm just curious as to whether I should invest time into getting more points, or if I should just forget it because it's worthless.

I also wonder how they are making money. Some of the questions you answer could be a way for companies to get info on potential buyers, but at those kind of prices, it almost doesn't make sense.

Right now it's in private beta, so it's on invite only, and most of the pages on the site don't work, and they have been out of stock since I joined. Which is strange, but it does seem professional.

I need to find the best website manager (Joomla, Drupal, etc.) for idiots to manage their website.

We initially used Drupal, which they found way to hard. We switched to Joomla, which they can manage to use, but changes take quite a long time, as you have to add a menu item each time you add a new article.

The website is for a small non-profit organization.

I got so fed up with eBay and PayPal, having been cheated both as a buyer and as a seller, after years of paying and earning money for eBay, having been afflicted by feedback

blackmail, having had false PayPal scam claims made against me, I finally, no matter how wise I had become to try and avoid such issues, decided to give eBay up as a bad joke.

My buddy is in EXACTLY the same boat; he decided to launch his own fraud free auction site to get back at Paypal, <a href="http://www.vbid.me">v Bid me</a> (do NOT use the link

code if it is not allowed if links in the html arte not allowed simply put "v Bid me"); he does not charge sellers listing fees or commissions for basic / regular listings,

which is nice. But me, I think I have decided to go for legal action against eBay and PayPal.

I want to share some info and advice with others, to help them I hope.

Paypal security BS - Paypal claim they are doing all they can to prevent fraud, but that is false. Just look at the Paypal UK registration process and compare this with the Paypal com process. OMG, you have to provide card details and your home phone number (which Paypal checks) on the UK site but ANYONE can open a .com account with a free gmail address! Why is that? Because fraud enforcement is MUCH tighter in the UK, so Paypal has to comply and take greater steps to prevent fraud. So then ask yourselves, how is it
Paypal dot com are doing everything they can to combat fraud?! It is a nonsense.

Paypal feedback - Got a problem with a buyer or seller - too late or can not leave feedback on Paypal / Paypal remove your feedback? Find an Paypal user warning site and leave

feedback for them there; just look at what Google shows for certain Paypal users names (search for the likes of "leonmad", "majabali" and "history_relics")

I hope this helps. As I said, I am going to sue eBay and PayPal. ...

Does anyone own the website with the title splash games?

I've noticed on my analytics account that I am getting titles of webpages that aren't on my website lol i.e. ".:: Splash Games ::." (Similar to my websites title dont you think :/ Just look on the home page lol)
This is obviously leading me to believe that someone has decided to copy my entire source code and use it on their website. I'm all for sharing source code and helping eachother, otherwise http://gamecity.frihost.net wouldn't be at the stage it is now, but copying my source code directly and then not even bothering to go through the code and change it to suit your website..I mean..they didn't even take out my anayltics code lol.

Sorry for the rant but I just want people to know that I put ALOT of time into my website and I dont want someone to come along and steal it and pass it off as their own. Atleast drop me an email dan@stickist.co.uk and I'll be happy to help you code your website with you.
