Philosophy and Religion : God is a monkey!!!

Well, I'm sure that topic title got a lot of attention. And I'm sure a lot of theists are getting ready to thrash me, buuuuuuuuuuuut... *evil grin*

I just had a conversation with a friend reguarding religion and the theory of evolution. Scientists pretty much agree that we evolved from cavemen, and that cavemen evolved from monkeys. So, if man was made in God's image, as Christianity suggests, then wouldn't God be a monkey?

Please don't take this too seriously, because I found it to be a pretty amusing thought.

I'm agnostic because I believe that it is impossible to prove, or disprove, the existence of any god(s). I've never been able to decide if any god(s) exist because I see it as a 50/50 shot. If I flip a coin, I won't say that I believe the coin will land on heads. That's just a guess. I feel that

believing in God is most likely the correct "guess" because there's way more evidence that God doesn't exist, however, I consider there to be an equal chance that some god(s) exist.

I've thought about this for a long time, and I began to think... does it even matter? Does the existence of God (I'll use the Jewish/Christian/Islam 'God' in this post as an example) matter? Allow me to elaborate on this entire idea.

The Christian Bible can be seen as a guide on how someone may choose to live their lives. Various scriptures, from the Ten Commandments to direct sayings from Jesus, provide the reader with a basic moral guide. Jesus makes it clear how God wants us to live our lives.

Euthanasia

So my brother recently wrote an essay on euthanasia for one of his university courses and it got me thinking; is it moral and "right" to commit euthanasia on someone? Is it murderous or is it merciful?

Personally, I don't think it's right to take one's life in any circumstances; especially not suicide or assisted suicide. I know that this is what I believe, but I admit that if I was in such a position of pain that death was the only way out, I might want someone to kill me; and if someone I loved was in such a position of pain I know I wouldn't want to see them in more pain.

I say suicide and assisted suicide is wrong, and so I guess I'm against euthanasia.

What do you think?

Many people in our world will call themselves vampires but are not completely sure of what they are calling themselves. In this article you will discover that vampires are real in human sense and that this is no attempt to make you believe in the old fantasy stories!

Theory:

Judging by the stories that you have heard you would normally assume a vampire to have a "dark" figure to them with long fangs that gain energy by sucking blood. Also these creatures are not developed enough to stalk the day so they must avoid the sun at all cost making them have to run about during the night.

These stories, as entertaining as they are, were just fictional stories told to children so they would not venture out during the night. Also only half, if not less, of these stories are actually true and herein this article will explain why.

Meaning:

Vampires are meant to suck blood and gain energy from such. It should be known that hardly no one anymore will actually suck blood for energy and is considered an obsolete hobby (if such has ever existed). In sense you would gain energy from drinking blood, just as you would gain energy from eating food for nurition.

The reason why vampires can live amongst us is because most of their acts are not illegal in society. Remember that to be a vampire you must have some sort of "drive" from something that can keep you alive. Human's first vampyric instinct is: sex, making many vampires fit among the inccubi (male) and succubi (female). They get energy by seducing the opposite sex and "draining" them of their sexual energy.

More often lately have I been describing the applications of magic to questioners who did not understand what it was and how to use it. This article will not give you fake incantations, potions with nothing more than water and food colouring, or ego-crushing spell casting. Rather you will find an example of real working magic, but only if you are brave enough to read!

When magic becomes known fact, people no longer refer to it as magic, but rather as "science, chemistry, psychology, etc."

Greater Magic:

Greater magic is ceremonial or ritual magic. It should be made clear now that greater magic is not as important as lesser magic.

During a ritual the practioner(s) are in a place called the "ritual chamber" or in other words, the temple. The participants should do whatever is necessary during the ritual to emotionally rid of any lingering thoughts. RITUAL MAGIC HAS THE PURPOSE NOT TO AUTOMATICALLY GET WHAT YOU WANT, BUT RATHER GIVE YOU MOTIVATION TO GET WHAT YOU WANT!

There are no bloodshed necessary in greater magic as some religionists think. Normally it is thought that by shedding the blood of a live animal it strengthens the magic working, but no one ever thought that it is actually the emotional pain that animal is receiving NOT THE BLOOD that is the purpose for the added strength to a working. Meaning, you will get better success if you use your emotional hatred, or self motivations to add to your strength (plus harming animals, even yourself, is cruel and by far illegal).

I have already stated this, but it deserves to be mentioned again. After a spell, or ritual has been casted you will get little to NO success unless you apply your working to lesser magic (will be explained). ...

Here's an analysis of the Genesis account of creation. I'll use the King James bible.

Chapter 1.

1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

So the Earth and Heaven were created at the same time and before the stars. Hmm..that seems to contradict all current understanding of cosmology.

2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

This seems to say that the earth was full of water and yet 'void'. Given that a void is empty this seems self-contradictory

3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

From where does the light come?

4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.

Presumably this means he sets the earth spinning on its axis.

5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.

So a day is measured from evening to morning? Hmm.

6 And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.

So there is a 'sky' or 'heavens' in the middle of a lot of water?

7 And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so.

So now we have water under the sky and water above it. Hmm.

8 And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.

Ahh...so now the firmament is heaven...but surely heaven was created 'in the beginning'?

9 And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so.

So we have one ocean and one island? OK...that works.

10 And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good.

OK, this works...we now have land and sea.

11 And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so.

So the first life on earth is grass and trees? ...

I'm not suggesting religion is "funny" although looking around me I cant help thinking if any god created all this he must have had a sense of humour. But I do think some people take religion far too seriously, particularly people who think their particular god wants them to die for him or kill other people in his name. Imo this sort of fanaticism has nothing to with religion, these people use religion as cover, something to hide behind and unfortunately we (in the UK) are constantly told by PC authorities we must not criticise them because it may offend their delicate sensibilities even though these people are often very vociferous in criticising their host country, in the name of religion of course...

I am trying to be a good Christian... I do worship God..
I also used to be wiccan. I did nothing wrong with it.. a simple white magic spells.
a few protection rituals.. I blessed a talisman (I am part Native American)

Its existence is based on the theory God "is not", hence why atheists can only have an existence as atheists when they are in the presence of an argument on religion. I find it ironic that the first slave ship that Queen Elizabeth sent to capture Africans off of the Ivory Coast was name JESUS CHRIST IS OUR LORD. I also find it ironic that the perception of Europeans was that Africans do not know how to be civil or worship god so they (europeans) had to unwillingly force Jesus upon them and show them how to be civilized. Many Africans feared the European pirates that came and captured their families to bring them to America. A lot of them fled and hid from the pirates that they percieved as the Devil. The common man would flee from anyone who poses a threat to him or his family.

Now you fast forward today and some African American people believe in Jesus Christ and Christianity. They will die for the cause of Chrisitanity and Jesus Christ. Some African American people say that if they know what they know about Jesus now then they will gladly join the pirates back then and happily been a slave the Europeans. All to know about Jesus.

Now are African American people so lost because they were stripped of all of their real history that they now pray to the same god of the pirates they viewed as the devil?

These are all this I just remember from sunday school, I didn't bother looking them up, sorry if there are some misquotes. But I've been thinking about these things and they're all quotes that were explained away by my teachers as "well, Jesus actually meant a very very little camel and the eye of the needle is actually another word for a huge gate!" and things like that.

But if you take these sayings literally they seem way more powerful and moving...

Just some random thoughts from a semi-lapsed Christian on a Sunday.

Have you ever witnessed a miracle in your life? If so please let's share.

I believe in God and miracles,
and in 2005 a friend invited me to a local crusade in the area. There was singing and dancing followed by a sermon. After the sermon the preacher asked people who wanted to experience the power of God to step forward. In the crowd there was a lady whose right leg was not functional and she had always used crutches. So the preacher started praying, and when he finished he instructed the woman to leave her crutches and move forward, which she did. This was the first miracle that I witnessed.

So I was watching some videos on Youtube about religion and all that good stuff and I was replying to some people's comments (big mistake, I know lol).

Anyway, I came across a comment from someone who said DNA itself is evidence of a designer. Now, I pushed him for evidence/reasoning backing his claim multiple times, but basically his responses amounted to "it's self apparent, if you can't see it then I can't help you." He did throw out some things such as DNA's ability to check/repair itself (in a roundabout way), DNA's ability to self-replicate, and a few other things that I can't recall at the moment.

All in all, he didn't really have a basis for his claim and it's pretty much a claim disagreed upon by the majority of biologists. Personally, I think it's a pretty laughable claim just thinking about what is wrong with and can go wrong with DNA, but I don't want to start the thread off on a negative tone.

So the point of the thread is I wanted to see if there are actually any halfway legitimate logical explanations that attempt to show the "design" of DNA. It's unlikely I'll be convinced, but I'm just curious. And obviously feel free to post your arguments in disagreement to the claim. Should be pretty simple

If it makes you happy, also feel free to go on about other "design" flaws (let's stay away from the eye if possible lol..it's been rehashed too many times). I'm just interested in hearing logical takes on the subject even though they've probably been said 100 times on these forums.

Ok, so I know Christians make promises to god to not have sex until mariage. I disagree with this completely. I do not believe that you should set a date in your life when you can wake up and say "Hey! I'm married, we can have sex now!" I beleive that when you hae found your true love, and you think you are ready to have sex, then you can have sex. Does anybody else agree or disagree, and why?

Another thing, I know they also must love god the most out of anybody, I disagree with this as well. Why must one love god the most, when you do not even truly know him? God does not love you the most, so why must we love him the most? He cannot love everyone the most, so I don't see why you would have to. Sure, you can love god for the things he has done, but why must you love him the most, when you do not get the love in return? I think if you have truly found your true love, then you must have to love him/her the most. ...

Suppose Mr. X has gotten me extremely pissed off. I've stewed over it for a week, and come up with a perfect plan to kill him. I couldn't possibly be caught, and it would be nicely framed to look like it was actually Ms. X, who I also despise.
I know it would be an 'evil' act, but it would make me feel better and I don't care.
All religion aside, why shouldn't I do it?

So I recently got into a discussion about Kentucky Fried Chicken's abuse of animals and just animal cruelty in general.

As always, this quote was brought up to justify animal cruelty: "And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth."

The person who brought it up basically said as far as they're concerned, we can do whatever we want to animals because of this excerpt.

So basically I'm looking for someone with experience in this subject to define the meaning of this excerpt and explain how it is completely wrong to use it as justification for animal cruelty.

To me, it seems overly hypocritical to claim your amazing, loving, caring, gentle god gladly gives humans the right to break a live animals leg/wing and watch it squirm to get away, or kick a live animal as hard as possible for absolutely zero reason...etc.

Maybe that's not the full excerpt so the quote is taken out of context? I just find it laughable somebody would use this as an excuse to torture animals.

Lets say a person (lets call him Josh) did something terrible, killed some people for example.

But is Josh still guilty when...
1. Josh gets such a braindamage that he doesn't remember anything about his life. He still does know how to talk etc. But has no memories of anything anymore. Also docters comfirm that he has lost his memory because some parts of the brain were really damaged. So you know he isn't pretending.
or
2. Josh has a split-personality and the evil personality (that wasn't there always) has done the killing while the other was "asleep". Wich is also confirmed he is not faking.

What do you think? And why?
