Joomla slow-ness

Website Software : Joomla slow-ness

I installed Joomla on my ftp site, and got everything up and running. It seems quite sluggish though.

For example, I ping about 1ms to Google, 35ms to Frihost.com, but 65ms to www.synaps3.com

Anyone know why this could happen?

Is there any sort of Joomla streamlining I could do to improve its efficiency?

I've been wondering about something for awhile and I think I'll bring it up to get some feedback.
I'm sure everyone here has at the very least checked out Ebay for programs like Photoshop and Dreamweaver and come across a "too good to be true" deal. My first thought is that it's either a scam or pirated.
Well, I came across on of those deals about 6 months ago. Dreamweaver Studio MX 2004 for $35 (Buy it Now).......that was with shipping. I couldn't help myself. After a quick review of the seller, I gave him the benifit of the doubt and bought it.
Well, turned out it was completely legit. I called Adobe and checked it out. Was even able to register it.
Since then, I've seen a few more deals like that. I always wonder, "what if this

one

is pirated or could I get lucky a second time? What would happen to me if I did buy it and it is pirated?" Now I'm not into the pirated software scene, and would never knowingly purchase pirated software [been approached before, even here on this forum], but really, what is the worst that could happen should I wind up buying something illegal? What are the legal implications?
Is a guilty conscience the worst thing that could happen? ...

I've been thinking that I want to make an image gallery to put all my photos on, but first, I need the gallery software! Any suggestions?

What I'm looking for:
- Good looking interface
- Ability to rate photos, and display them according to rating
- Automatic thumbnail generation
- Ability to put highest rated images on the index page (if any at all are there)
- Free

If it doesn't have all of those, but has most, I'd still look at it too. So, which one is a good one?

I have win XP on it but at the same time i need functionality of PHP and MYSQL so i am using XAMPP.
I have a dedicated connection and a dedicated IP too.

My Question is how to host more than 1 websites from the same computer using the above configuration.

- Filezilla (filezilla.sourceforge.net)
very convenient FTP client, open source

- notepad++
A great text editor for editing all kinds of code. Supports syntax highlighting for html, css, php and many more. Extremely useful.

- Multiple Image Resizer .NET (www.multipleimageresizer.net)
useful for editing a lot of pictures at once (bulk editing).
features resizing, reducing quality, adding border, captions.

- AscToTab (http://www.jafsoft.com/asctotab/?home&p=AscToTab)
converts text files in to html tables, with very little formatting. The tables are then ready for editing with css. Very useful if you write your page in html and you have a table that you want to convert into html code.
What-you-see-is-what-you-get programs do a bad job of this, since they produce complex html code that is unsuitable for html editing

I myself have always like developing my own systems and starting from sratch when doing a website. Although recently I have started working with a web development company, which all the work is done in joomla. Before that I had only heard of joomla and was abit hasatent to use it, but I am now getting my head around the way it works.

Now I am looking to write some joomla extenision, would anyone recommand a good tutrioal site?

And also I would like to add the question of do you use joomla?
Do you like to use joomla? do you find it easy system to develop templates for and extensions?
I would like to know your opinion?

Recently, I just discovered a search engine exactly like Google. This search engine was in the shows Zoey 101 and iCarly. (Both Nickolden shows.) It is called Zaplook. Even they're logo is like Google. The letters are multi-color just like Google's. Could this search engine replace Google? Or will they shut down in a matter of time?

I have installed the VBulletin 3.7.1 on my PHPBB3 board .
I Have successfully imported all the members & forums posts but i got so many problems

1. No One can login using their phpBB3 board login detail on VBulletin except Admin & Moderator but also for Moderator it worked only after changing his password & for rest registered users it says you are banned from the forum & Time lifted : Never

2. BB CODE table while we post a new topic or quick reply are not shown but it shows to VBulletin board new registered users , Admin only ... even to that moderator it's not showing.

It's really great problem ... Please help me

Right, I'm looking for a mod for phpbb3, that adds a block above the forums (on any page) where I'd be able to place links to threads which I mark as "featured". Something similar to what FriHost has, but not quite.

I hope that made any sense.

If there isn't such mod, maybe there's something similar?

Hello, I recently bought vbulletin and I am currently testing it on my localhost. The board on which I am going to install it is phpbb3.... which is installed in /forum folder. I have wordpress installed on my homepage. In phpbb3 it was easy to display login in the home page i.e. Blog page... It was a login forum when user is not logged in.....and after loggin in.... It displayed Welcome "Username" | Logout, user avatar etc etc. or we can say that if someone seeking the homepage & he can logout from blog & as a result he's also logout from forum................ I mean to say there should be a links of login , logout , register etc on blog such that they are also compatible with forum........ ...

I have been teaching myself python. Turbogears has seemed like a good framework to use, but when I looked in the tutorial I noticed that sites that were made with turbogears seemed to have had an obtrusive banner (for turbogears) at the bottom of each page.

Are those who have used turbogears satisfied with it or would my time be better spent
using/learning a different framework for python?

I recently bought vBulletein to create a forum, and i was going to use frihost to host it, but i'm not really sure how to make a forum, i'm not that familiar with Php, could someone with backround experience please tell me how to create a forum using vBulletein,

I noticed only recently, that in phpBB3's index page (=Board Index) is absent column "Views", how many times the thread (=topic) was viewed. Instead I see Replies (=Posts), which I don't need to see.

Is it possible to add views count somehow?
