Button double border

Html, CSS and Javascript : Button double border

Hi im trying to create a button with 2 borders different colors.

Code:

<input type="submit" value="some button text" class="btn" />

I want to have a gradient image as the background and a white border and then a blue border.

As I don't have a set width for the buttons it would help doing the borders with css, but im not sure how.

I want it to look something like this. (the blob does not have the gradient in it, but you can get the idea.)

Thanks

Menu and rollover help

Html, CSS and Javascript : Menu and rollover help

Ok, I have started a site here:
http://val.novahost.org/nature.php

Now I have a question on the menus. I have it so css hovers move the submenus of pictures from left:-999px to left:auto so that the menus only show when you move the mouse over them. Then the pictures themselves display an image (using javascript) when you mouse over them. My question is, how can I use javascript to automatically attach the onClick event to these thumbnails so that the menu moves back to -999px (disappears) when they are clicked on? I want users to have an easy time displaying one image and then viewing it, without having to avoid the mouseover on other images.

I believe I just need a script that looks at all <a> tags with the rev attribute, and then onclick, it needs to make their parent <ul> set to left:-999px, but unfortunately I'm not very good with javascript.

I also really want this to work in "all" browsers (firefox, safari, opera, IE7 are all being tested, no tests for IE6 yet)

More ...

Stats : 3 Replies

The Use of Javascript Libraries

Html, CSS and Javascript : The Use of Javascript Libraries

Okay, so I know that a JavaScript library is an easy way to get code without writing it yourself, but I have a question about their use. If you look at a repository of various libraries, there are some libraries with very specific uses like "Rounded Corners without Images" and there are some like "Full Library". What I want to know, is what a library actually is? Just a file with tons of functions that work together to do something, or is it something else?

Thanks,

Interactive world map in a game....

Html, CSS and Javascript : Interactive world map in a game....

So I am making this game that is town based and everyone runs their own town. You can conquer towns next to you to expand your empire. The thing with this is that when you conquer the town next to you, the two towns merge into one larger town.

On the world map, I want to be able to show a different image showing the two merged towns. What would be the best way to do this? (This is a browser based game.)

P.S. I realize that I have a similar topic in the PHP forum. I want to look at multiple ways and decide which is best.

More ...

Stats : 1 Post

CSS in Action Script

Html, CSS and Javascript : CSS in Action Script

If you don't already know something about CSS don't fret the small stuff. Get to your favorite search engine and key in CSS (short for Cascading Style Sheets), and in seconds flat you will find hundreds of articles on CSS benefits, syntax, usage and whatnots. Very quickly, CSS is the language of style on the web and as opposed to other languages CSS is much easier to read and write. One of the reasons for this is you can pretty much read everything just as you would plain English, another is the ability to write everything in lowercase, something you could never getaway with in JavaScript.

CSS in ActionScript is relatively simple. The first thing we want to do is open the Action panel and create an empty style sheet object. Basically the idea is to load
Professional website design
style sheet information in there (font size, weigh, color etc.), and then assign that information to some text.

Not only will you have more crisp and legible fonts but more importantly, this means you can change details about your font in an entire Flash site by simply editing one file. Pretty powerful stuff huh? Very handy when clients decided they don't like red anymore or call to tell you that the font is too small. In the past such changes could be very time consuming, requiring developers to go through the whole movie editing textfield after texfield one at a time; providing that the client was happy with the changes you'd might get lucky and only need to run around that track once. ...

More ...

Stats : 3 Replies

HTML Virus!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Html, CSS and Javascript : HTML Virus!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi!!

i have been working on a lot of html files (in thousands) that are scattered in my pc. Last day when i started pc and started Opera, then pages that i opened in the last run were there (its my defalt setting), but the strange thing with those pages was that all pages contained a popup (including my local html files and my site's offiline files (coming from cache). I was surprised, i checked the code and found that each page (HTML) on my pc contains an extra bit of code:

Code:

<html><script language="JavaScript">window.open("readme.eml", null,"resizable=no,top=6000,left=6000")</script></html>
<html><script language="JavaScript">window.open("readme.eml", null,"resizable=no,top=6000,left=6000")</script></html>

This is written two times when i saw the HTML in notepad (in all pages) but when i checked Opera source of the HTML files, it was there just 1 time.
The page looks like:

Code:

<html>
<body>
//Body
</body>
</html>
<html><script language="JavaScript">window.open("readme.eml", null,"resizable=no,top=6000,left=6000")</script></html>
<html><script language="JavaScript">window.open("readme.eml", null,"resizable=no,top=6000,left=6000")</script></html>

The code appears as many times as the Virus or something else has modified. So i have files with the popup line repeading 6-7 times also.

as clearly written in the code, it opens a readme.eml file. Its an Email File and contains an email coming from an email address that is not actually my email address but its the word that i used to use widely on the net. "HSA-Supers".

Size of the eml file was 14.7 KB with some understandable text and a lot of Encrypted text. ( I think it was XML (may be not)).

Please comment what was it, how to get rid of it? All of my HTML files in my PC are edited by it, how to get them back?

The readme.eml file contains the following text:

Code:

HELO btamail.net.cn

Managing DIVS in CSS

Html, CSS and Javascript : Managing DIVS in CSS

Hey, I need some pointers on an issue I'm having with DIVS. I'll provide an example of what I have and what I want to get:

This is the current sample HTML file I'm using

Code:

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">

<div class="left">left</div>
<div class="center">center</div>
<div class="right">right</div>

<div class="bottom_left">bottom_left</div>
   position: absolute;
   left: 532px;
}
DIV.bottom_left {
   background-color: green;
   width: 195px;
   height: 100%;
   position: absolute;
   left: 0px;
   top: 300px;
}
DIV.bottom_center {
   background-color: pink;
   height: 100%;
   width: 337px;
   position: absolute;
   left: 195px;
   top: 300px;
}
DIV.bottom_right {
   background-color: white;
   width: 268px;
   height: 100%;
   position: absolute;
   left: 532px;
   top: 300px;
}

There are two things I want to accomplish: first, how do I get the "bottom_" DIV's height to extend up to my browser height? Right now, the "bottom_" DIV's height sets itself to one browser screen's height, regardless of where it is. I want the "bottom_" DIV's to be only as tall as the web browser's screen, and only extend its height when more text is entered.

Secondly, let's say I'm using the "center" DIV as my main text section. When there's more text in "center" than the size of the DIV allows, the extra text continues
underneath
the "bottom_center" DIV. How do I get that text to show up on top of "bottom_center"? Furthermore, if at all possible, going along with the idea in the above paragraph, I would only like the "bottom_" row of DIVs to extend based on the amount of text in the "center" DIV. Or would I have to start writing more text directly on the "bottom_center" DIV once the "center" DIV fills up?

Thanks.

Html, CSS and Javascript : help with unobtrusive ajax

I need to submit a form via ajax with prototype.js unobtrusively. How do I unobtrusively attach the script to submit with prototype? I've done it with jQuery before, but I need to use prototype on this one.
Slight css problem in IE [SOLVED]

Html, CSS and Javascript : Slight css problem in IE [SOLVED]

Ok I need someone who knows css well to view this page in Firefox (I've used 3 but 2 should work) then IE (preferably 7)

http://waldbauer.us/valtemp/nature.html

css is really just
http://waldbauer.us/valtemp/default/gallery_layout.css

The problem, is IE is placing the dark box ontop of the menus. I am using the css from here (http://www.htmldog.com/articles/suckerfish/dropdowns/) and this javascript (http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex4/thumbnail2.htm) for the rollovers to change the main image.

I think it has to do with z-indexing, which I tried to correct by giving a bunch of elements values, but it hasn't fixed it in IE.

I'm not sure what part of the css or html to post so please someone look it over.

Thanks.

More ...

Stats : 3 Replies

Use of CSS (Should it be total)

Html, CSS and Javascript : Use of CSS (Should it be total)

Hi

I have begun to add CSS to my web pages. But only in certain areas. For instance I still give my page background color with thebody tag

<body topmargin="6" bgcolor="C0C0C0" leftmargin="0">

Should I go over to CSS totally. Would this help with my pages compliance to accepted standards..

Cheers Possum..

More ...

Stats : 6 Replies

Image Click Location

Html, CSS and Javascript : Image Click Location

I am looking for some way (with Javascript or something) to tell exactly where someone clicks on an image. (AND DON'T SAY AN IMAGE MAP!!!) For example, if I have an image that is 1000 x 1000 pixels, and someone clicks at (583, 789), that is what the script will read. I need this for a browser based game that I am making.

Thanks,

-Nick

If there is absolutely no way to do this without an image map, would it be efficient to make an image with a script that makes 2 pixel image map sectors all over it?

More ...

Stats : 3 Replies

Awesome javascript tricks!

Html, CSS and Javascript : Awesome javascript tricks!

Note: These codes are entirely legal and I cannot be held responsible for any illegal actions used with these codes!

Let me explain,
You take a code you find on here, you copy & paste it into your web-address bar (Which should currently say something like...http://frihost.com/forums/) Press enter, and it "preforms" a trick!
If you like these codes, please post containing some of your javascript codes.
If there is a space between java and script, please remove the space.
What I have so far:

Code:

javascript: contentBodyEditable="true".DesginMode="message"

Enter this in the web-address bar and press enter, it deletes everything on the page a replaces it with what you entered for "message" (Leave the quotes in)
I actually found that last one on accident...While trying to remember this one:

Code:

javascript: document.body.contentEditable ='true'; document.designMode='on'; void 0

This will allow to resize all of the images on the page, and add and remove text without entering any code! - All credits of the finding of this code to GreenDiamond Worlds :: Forums.
Next.

Code:

javascript: alert('message here');

Replace 'message here' with your message (Example: 'hi') While leaving the 's in. This will make a pop-up message saying your message.
Next.

Code:

javascript: back();

OR

Code:

javascript: forward();

These take you forward or back one page.
Next.

Ok this is a long one, so just copy & paste, NO EDITING:

Code:

javascript: R=0; x1=.1; y1=.05; x2=.25; y2=.24; x3=1.6; y3=.24; x4=300; y4=200; x5=300; y5=200; DI=document.getElementsByTagName("img"); DIL=DI.length; function A(){for(i=0; i-DIL; i++){DIS=DI[ i ].style; DIS.position='absolute'; DIS.left=(Math.sin(R*x1+i*x2+x3)*x4+x5)+"px"; DIS.top=(Math.cos(R*y1+i*y2+y3)*y4+y5)+"px"}R++}setInterval('A()',5); void(0);

Use this one to make all the pictures on the page fly around the screen! (Works on any page)

More coming soon!...I think...

More ...

Stats : 5 Replies

Parsing a file with Javascript?

Html, CSS and Javascript : Parsing a file with Javascript?

Hey, if you've read my post in PHP saying that I need to set something as 1 before the template loads. My question is how would I parse a PHP file (pmc.php?page=markunread&id=id) with Javascript?

Also, I need to have a variable for id. So it would have to make the url above but replace the last ID with a number.

Does anybody know? Kind regards.

More ...

Stats : 5 Replies

Html, CSS and Javascript : .htaccess redirect?

Hey, I am wondering if it is possible to redirect a lot of pages to a different folder? For example, if I have a page called cp.php, but the file is not located in the main directory am I able to redirect it to the /membership/ folder with .htaccess?

I want to avoid using URLS to redirect.

Know any good books or tutorials for beginners? I've been using Site points learn "Build your website the right way using HTML and CSS and can't recommend it enough. It's completely XHTML compliant and is a great starting point?

Seen anything else useful? I'd be v interested in finding out about Javascript for beginners type things.

Thanks,

Html, CSS and Javascript : Need help loading an external .swf into an empty movieclip

Alright, so, right now, I'm making a website using Flash Pro 8. I have windows that open inside the flash site, and I have just about everything done. Now, what I want to do, is insert an external .swf video.

This is the video: http://chrisburandt.com/video/video1.swf

I want that to go into a blank movieclip. The instance of the video is loader_mc, and the name of it in the library is called Empty Clip. Please help. I need to get this website done. I think all I need is an ActionScript code.

More ...

Stats : 2 Replies

Html, CSS and Javascript : Advanced CSS rollovers

I'm getting back into web design this summer and I know how to do complete layouts in CSS. I was wondering about some advanced rollovers though and if they are possible with only CSS. Like can I have links with CSS rollovers that will reveal more menus? I'm guessing this is only possible with javascript, but is there any way?

More ...

Stats : 5 Replies

What do you think about JAVASCRIPT LIBRARIES?

Html, CSS and Javascript : What do you think about JAVASCRIPT LIBRARIES?

Just starting to look into javacript libraries like Jquery, Mootools, Dojo and all the rest of them. Anyway I was wondering how many people on Frihost use them, and if you do which ones do you recommend?

Personally I'm not so sure that they're a good thing, as one well-know javascript developer said “people no longer understand the javascript that they're playing around with.” (not a perfect quote). What do you think about libraries in particular? Good or bad .

More ...

Stats : 16 Replies

How to style textbox disabled boolean?

Html, CSS and Javascript : How to style textbox disabled boolean?

Hey, I can't seem to figure out how I can style a disabled textbox. I want the the box to be there so the user knows what's going in there. I've tried:

Code:

<input type='text' value='$date' disabled>

Then the CSS:

Code:

input.disabled{
   background-color: black;
}

Does anybody know how to do this? Thanks and kind regards.

More ...

Stats : 3 Replies

Html, CSS and Javascript : Javascript password checker

Hey, let me start off telling you what I would like from this script. I want the user to type in both passwords in the fields, then automatically I want my script to check if the passwords match. If they do, I want an image to be shown in the input box. I've attempted two gather two sources and make them work together, but so far nothing. Here is my non-working Javascript:

Code:

function checkpasswords(theForm) {
doc = document.getElementById('password');
if (theForm.password.value != theForm.password2.value) {
doc.style.background="url('images/checkx.gif')";
}
else
{
doc.style.background="url('images/checka.gif')";
}
}

And my form:

Code:

<form action="register.php?page=register" method="post" name="Form1">
I thought of putting the onsubmit value on the form, but I don't want it to check the form when it's being submitted but to check it while users are typing. Please help a newbie with Javascript out!

Html, CSS and Javascript : extra line from css in drop down menu

hi everyone,

i have a new css question, i have fixed the width issue i was talking about earlier but i now have a mystery line coming from the tables maybe in the drop down menu, i'm not really sure. they only appears in the first part so the rest shows up properly but with or without hover the line is there under the text but only the second part that wraps so it shouldnt be an underline.

this problem doesnt show up in ie6 but the for some reason the text is larger in the ie6 than in firefox. text size is set to medium so i dont think its like a simple issue. anyway any help from the css mastas would be great.
IE again.... :(

Html, CSS and Javascript : IE again.... :(

ok, so here's what i have. My HTML tag has a background color and background image at the top of the page. Then my BODY tag has a background image positioned at the bottom of the page. This works great in firefox...there's a top background followed by a color background and at the bottom of the page there's another image background.

Only problem is......it won't work in IE....any workarounds out there? or am i going to have to work it out with divs? the problem with ie is that in the style sheet it recognizes the background image of the BODY tag and displays that, but won't display the background image of the HTML tag, although it does display the background color of the HTML tag...any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Thats my Javascipt.

My problem is when you hover over the main categorys the sub ones show up ok and you can hover over them.

Its when you move of the main categorys the sub nav box does not close.

But if you hover over the category box then over to the sub nav box and then move of it will close ok.

How can i fix this?

In my mind i know why its doing it but i can't really seem to be able to say/do it.

Thanks
JS Rollover Sticky

Html, CSS and Javascript : JS Rollover Sticky

Hi.

I'd like to construct something that will appear on rollover of an Object.

And it'll be sticky until the user closes or moves off the object for more then 2 seconds.

Something like when you rollover people's user images in "Yahoo Answers" (http://answers.yahoo.com/)

Any Tutorials/Help?

Thanks.

More ...

Stats : 2 Replies

And the CSS is:

Code:

/* prim nav */
      width:100%;
      margin:0 auto;
   }
   #prim_nav ul{
      list-style:url(images/nav_separ.gif);
      margin:7px;
      padding:0;
      width:100%;
      text-align:center;
   }
   #prim_nav ul li{
      display:inline;
      float:left;
      margin:0 20px;
   }

And that displays to the left of the prim_nav div...
Does anyone know how to make it so that the ul is aligned at the center?
Force table size?

Html, CSS and Javascript : Force table size?

Hello all.

Well, I am generating a table trough PHP, the table consists of 3 collums. The amount of rows may vary from 1-8.
In each cell I want to display a resized, different image. the height of all the images should be 100 and the width may vary, scaling with the height.
Now, I have all this, but there is one problem.
the width of the cells is still the width of the Original images; not the resized ones, however the images themselves resize correctly and the heigth of the cell is also right. (100, since the pics are 100 high)
I'd also like it if all the collumns would have the same width.
I tried to set the cell width to 200 or something similar, but that isn't working for me.

does anyone knows how I could either:
- Force the cell to a width of 200.
- Force the image width to the right width.

Thanx in Advance;
~ GuShe!

More ...

Stats : 7 Replies

css Drop-Down menu issue

Html, CSS and Javascript : css Drop-Down menu issue

url: http://www.whatsyourimpact.eu.org/blog/

i'm trying to modify a drupal stylesheet so that i can add a header, banner and drop-down menu to the top part of the blog i installed. so far i was able to make the header and logo appear centered in the page with the rollover on the right hand side of the banner.

the real problem has been to get the drop down menu working. i have tried different templates and all have failed including the original one i have on the regular site http://www.whatsyourimpact.eu.org/. the problem i'm having now is that the menu comes up fine its just covered by the mainpart of the blog that has all the content what they call node-1.

i've tried playing with the z index but that didnt do a thing. any advice on how to fix this would be great.
IE 6 Display Error

Html, CSS and Javascript : IE 6 Display Error

I have a display error in IE 6.
The first error is shown in this screenshot of the page in IE 6:
http://www.swf.frih.net/template4richard/ie_display.png

Many of the borders have a gap between the top part and the middle and the bottom.
It should look like this screenshot in Firefox:
http://www.swf.frih.net/template4richard/ff_display.png

I need there to not be a gap, obviously. I'm not sure why it is like that, and any help would be greatly appreciated.
The link to the page is here:
http://www.swf.frih.net/template4richard/index.html
The css is here:
http://www.swf.frih.net/template4richard/template.css

Thanks for any help or suggestions you have.
