Fillers and Spoilers explained

Anime and Comics : Fillers and Spoilers explained

As I brows most of the popular anime threads I came across the same basic question over and over again. This is for those of you who don't know, but would like to. A filler is an addition to the original manga or OVA storyline for adaptation to an animated series. Any time you see people complaining about fillers, it is because they have read the manga or seen an OVA to a particular anime, and the story has swayed off course. Many do not like this change one bit, as they want to see what is supposed to happen next. I personally don't mind fillers as I do not like to spoil my anime's by reading manga, so it's all the same to me. Another word you may be interested in is spoilers, beware them if you don't want to know what is supposed to happen next in your favorite anime. Spoilers are often posted by people who have read further in to the storyline of an anime and post dramatic details of future events, generally in places they SHOULD NOT BE *sigh* I hate people lol. If you are one of these people who enjoys talking about future events of ongoing anime, please don't do it in the comments section or threads of current or old releases on streaming sites and forums.

Stats : 5 Replies

Nodame Cantabile

Anime and Comics : Nodame Cantabile

Awhile back it caught my eye, and I watched the whole series of 'Nodame Cantabile' on Veoh. It was a highly addictive, quirky show made out of something something so simple as majoring in music college, into something so downright hysterical and memorable. I loved Nodame's obsessive weirdness and atypical bubbly personality, as well as Chiaki's contrasting prim and proper mien. Even after watching it so long ago, it still sticks in my mind every day. Has anyone else seen this anime?

Stats : 20 Replies

Welcome to the NHK!

Anime and Comics : Welcome to the NHK!

Synopsis
Welcome to the NHK is an occasionally surreal “slice of life” anime centered around Satou Tatsuhiro (pictured). Satou is a hikikomori, a shut-in, like an estimated 1 million of his countrymen. He doesn't have a job, living off an allowance from his parents. He hardly leaves his apartment because of a morbid fear of others. And he is convinced there is a conspiracy that has turned him and people like him into hikikomori. This conspiracy is headed by a group he calls the Nipon Hikikomori Kyōkai, meaning the Japanese Shut-in Corporation (a play on the national public broadcaster Nipon Hōsō Kyōkai).

Attempting to come to Satou's rescue is Misaki Nakahara, a young woman who's decided to cure Satou of his hikikomori ways. This is the central plot device of the show, with Satou also managing to go on various adventures as he tries to cure himself, like meeting a suicide pact club and creating an erotic video game. But he always ends up right back where he started, which is a big part of what's brilliant about this show.

Has anyone seen it?

Stats : 4 Replies

Rice Boy

Anime and Comics : Rice Boy

www.rice-boy.com

This has to be one of the best examples of a well put together storyline, surreal characters in a surreal world, and mind-bending fantasy to ever come from an amateur webcomic artist. It manages to combine surrealist style with a religious war epic, and it does it near flawlessly. My only gripe about this is the speed of the action. It's obvious that Evan Dahm does not have lots of experience animating action, but this can easily be overlooked by the sheer expertise of how everything else is near flawless. Rice Boy is a must read comic, people.

Stats : 5 Replies

More Cool Anime

Anime and Comics : More Cool Anime

I have Night Head Genesis, watched it. Wil is right, it has some gay incestous overtones that would turn some people off but it can be ignored. The plot is a bit weak but the psychic powers are cool and there are some touching scenes that makes you wanna go "awww".

Macross Frontier is Good. If you liked Code Geass or any mech anime, you'll like it!

Nabari no Ou has action that you're looking for. But it also delves in deeper to the more emotional aspects of a person burdened with a responsibility.

xxxHolic: Kei. It's xxxHolic's sequel. If you like Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles, think of this as a side story.

D.GrayMan, also action.

Katekyo Hitman Reborn, more action/shonen. Mafia.

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, more mech and awesome drills that can pierce the heavens!

I'll add more once I think up of something!

Stats : 2 Replies

Anime and Comics : My Favourite Anime

Underappreciated anime:

1. The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
2. Darker than Black
3. Full Metal Panic
4. Akazukin Chacha
5. GANTZ
6. Fooly Cooly/Furikuri = the plot makes you "WFTOMGBBQ???"

And for comics:
1. Gantz
2. Hentai kamen - kind of ecchi, but it's like Ranma with more perverted undertones.

Stats : 1 Post

Anime and Comics : The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya

Well, think of this anime as a more coherent, less trippy version of FLCL. Anybody watched this?

I thought that this series was constructed very well, with wit and humor. It is modernism in the disguise of a traditional school-life (almost) series. I suggest you give this series a try...it's kind of unconventional (all the episodes are purposely out of order), but it has intellectual value as well.

We can at least learn two things:
that Nagato is a l337 h4x0r, and that when an assassination attempt fails, move to Canada.

Stats : 13 Replies

Slayers REVOLUTION

Anime and Comics : Slayers REVOLUTION

So, the first episode of the new (!!!) season of Slayers came out recently, and I watched it and am completely in love.

:D 13 years after the original season 1 aired, and I am just so unbelievably happy to have a new season. They've obviously updated the animation, but it's not in anything but quality, art style and the terrible!badguys are just as bad as always.

First episode had 4/5 of our main cast, plus one new something that I'm not sure will be good or bad or what. I cannot WAIT for Xelloss, and kind of hope we get some Luna, despite it being unlikely.

The series seems like it's going to be at least semi-centered around finding Goury a new sword, +killing pirates, +more people being afraid of Lina. XD It's so awesome, I am infinitely pleased.

<3 Anyone else seen it yet?

Stats : 9 Replies

Anime and Comics : [OFFICIAL] Naruto - No more new threads about this

Okay, surely people here have watched it since it's like the hottest thing right now. I personally thought it was amazing, but stopped watching at about episode 80, and i know i'm way behind now. but from what i hear the story arch isnt so great now anyways. although i understand that it's necessarily, i really hate animes htat flood you with filler episodes and flashbacks from the same episode or the last episode jsut to kill time. also it's funny how if you watch enough, you can tell when the good artist or the bad artist comes on, sometimes there's really crappy animation or the characters look out of wack etc.

Stats : 549 Replies

Evangelion is being remade

Anime and Comics : Evangelion is being remade

I was never satisfied by the ending of the Evangelion series; even the movie left me with something to desire for. I ran into this article at IGN recently and I'm pretty interested that it's being remade. I know there are some Eva fans here so yeah...

Quote:

To avoid spoilers, we won't talk too much about Evangelion 1.0. But to be honest, the story of the first film is 95% the same as the first six episodes of the original series, so there's really not much to spoil. The producers wanted to get started with a solid base for new and old fans alike, so the "retelling" is quite literal in the first film. For the most part, scenes are pretty much the same as they were in the original series but with better animation and better pacing.

The later three films, however, promise to deliver new elements, including:

New Characters
New Story Elements
New Eva Designs (Units 04, 05, and 06)
And, most importantly, a brand new ending

Anime and Comics : Anyone watched Heidi on cartoon network

Heidi was the story of a little girl and I used to love that cartoon series a lot. The way different childish emotions were screened was real marvelous. You just couldn't sit there without being moved by tht child's character. I remeber having tears in my eyes everytime Heidi was in trouble.....and always wished I had a daughter that cute and innocent.

Stats : 9 Replies

Anime and Comics : [OFFICIAL] Bleach - No more new threads about this

I just finished watching episode 52-53 which is the last episode available at the moment and I have this to say about the series. It is simply amazing. It has in my opinion very little flaws. If you haven't seen or want to see it there are many sites that have it for direct download. You can also find it on torrent sites or any P2P.

Here is a quick summary:
Ichigo Kurosaki is a 15-year old boy with an angry face. He also has the ability to see ghosts. This brings him trouble when one day, he meets a Death God named Rukia Kuchiki, one who destroys Hollows, destructive beings created from dead people who are left on Earth. In an incident with a Hollow, Rukia transfers her energy to Ichigo, to create him into a Death God. As mysterious new characters arise, Ichigo must learn that the Hollows aren't his only enemy, and to destroy them, he must learn the way of a Death God.
Kurosaki Ichigo is not a regular 15 year old, because he has always had the ability to see spirits and ghosts. One day, a female Shinigami (God of Death) named Kuchiki Rukia appears before him, hunting for an evil spirit. ...

Stats : 278 Replies

Anime and Comics : [OFFICIAL] Dragonball - No more new threads about this

Dragon Ball is a Japanese manga by Akira Toriyama serialized in the weekly anthology magazine, Weekly Shonen Jump, from 1984 to 1995 and originally collected into 42 individual books called Tankōbon. In 2004, the manga was re-released in a 34 volume collection (called Kanzenban) which included a slightly rewritten ending, all new original covers, and original color artwork from its Weekly Jump run.

Anime and Comics : Gundam Seed

It's Japanese anime. I really like it. It's a bit similar to Transformers.

Description from Wiki:

Quote:

The series is the first set in the Cosmic Era. This series begins with the Bloody Valentine War between Earth and the colonies that is similar to the One Year War of the original Gundam series with certain traditional elements from Mobile Suit Gundam Wing and After War Gundam X such as the presence of five multicolored Gundam mobile suits and the threat of an apocalypse. On one side is the Earth Alliance, and on the opposite is the space colonies that form ZAFT (Zodiac Alliance of Freedom Treaty). Mankind is divided over human genetic engineering, with normal humans known as "Naturals" and the genetically altered humans known as "Coordinators". Like the original series, while ZAFT has a head start on mobile suit design, the Earth Alliance quickly catches up with its five prototype Gundams. With ZAFT having stolen four of the prototypes, young Coordinator Kira Yamato pilots the GAT-X105 Strike Gundam and is forced to fight his old friend Athrun Zala. Little do they know that there exist sinister forces working to bring about events that go far beyond their worst nightmares.

Stats : 3 Replies

Anime and Comics : Online comics generators

Hello friend!

Do you want to create your own comic strip? Aw, you're like me and cannot draw even a simple tree? No more cry! Today is our lucky day, because I've just finished a list of online tools that help we to create a comic strip in minutes.

It was hard to make that list, but it was worthwhile. If you like it, make fun comics and please bookmark and share the URL everywhere.

Stats : 3 Replies

Kirkman's Image Comics

Anime and Comics : Kirkman's Image Comics

I've recently been reading two of Alan Kirkman's awesome comic book series for Image Comics. Walking Dead is a dramatic, disturbing, and psychological zombie story, which is good but gritty and keeps you coming back through constant gut-wrenching cliffhangars. The other, Invincible, is a little more light-hearted story of a teen whose father is basically superman and gets his own set of superman-like powers in his senior year of high school. Invincible is very dramatic, but is still a lot more fun in the traditional form than Walking Dead, and it tends towards fewer cliffhangers and instead keeps you reading by constantly bringing up new questions and mysteries which may or may not be answered in the next book. Overall, these are consistently two of my favorite comic book series... which raises my question:

Have any of you read these two series? What do you think of them? Which is your favorite?

AND

Have you guys read any of Kirkman's other series? What are they like? How do they compare?

PLEASE DON'T USE SPOILERS! ...

Stats : 1 Post

The manga, Glass Mask

Anime and Comics : The manga, Glass Mask

It was made around 1975, and I heard something about it being famously legendary in Japan for being one of the best shojo manga ever.
I've been reading it on mangafox.com, and I have been unable to do anything other than read it. (Seriously, I've stayed up to 4 in the morning reading it every day for the past week.)
It's very long, but very epic.
Tons of terrible stuff happens to the main character who pretty much loves to act in order to escape from her boring self. There's lots of evil people out to get her, but even though she doesn't believe she's that great, she has a lot of strength that attracts true friends.

Anyone else read this? I heard there was an anime (is there?)

Stats : 3 Replies

Anime and Comics : good comics

you are looking for streaming or RMVB crap I cannot help you. I advise you to wait longer, but download anime in their full quality. Otherwise you will not be appreciating the work that original encoder has put in compressing the whole episode so that you can watch it with happiness.

Stats : 1 Post

Hitman Reborn!

Anime and Comics : Hitman Reborn!

Having just caught up on... ooh... 150 chapters or so of Reborn!, I have firmly entered it into "something I love beyond belief" and am now very up for discussions.

For example: is the anime worth it?

Stats : 5 Replies

Storm Hawks

Anime and Comics : Storm Hawks

I keep wondering when the people from my generation, the ones that grew up watching Disney Afternoon, and the various Saturday Morning cartoons, will hit the studios... I mean judging from SpongeBob and Fairly Odd Parents, the people who grew up watching The Jetsons have had their turn... Sometimes I'd like to see something with a little more... Story... Setting... Consistency... Lack of Patrick Star Running Around in His Sweaty Briefs... (Am I the only one who finds that disturbing?)

Presenting: Storm Hawks - It's a rare occasion that I actually watch television, but when I do, I can't help but notice the two flavors of cartoon available today. That'd be American cartoons that are all cheesy jokes, and Japanese cartoons that are all crappy animation and people yelling at each-other... Anyhow I wasn't quite sure which category Storm Hawks fit into when I first ran into it, turns out it doesn't.

No seriously, don't let the obvious anime influence, the occasional dumb joke, or the 3D with cartoon filter look, (bleagh) send you running away, this one's pure gold. ...

Stats : 3 Replies
