So, anyone know of a decent application for editing/composing MIDI stuff? I'm aware of several, and I've installed a couple, but I was wondering if anyone had any good experiences with anything. Especially those of you who've actually composed stuff. I intend to put in some time trying to learn one with decent capabilities, so I'd prefer something that didn't stick to the sheet music format.

Music : Can anyone give me info on an Ibanez RG w/inverted headstock

I just picked up this ibanez RG a few days ago, its a '95 and was made at fujigen, but I have no idea what model it is - Can anyone help me?

As I said before, it was made in '95 at Fujigen.
As well as this, it has:
V8, S7 and V7 ibanez pickups (H-S-H configuration)
Licensed Floyd Rose, with locking nut etc.
Inverted (upside down) headstock
Plain dot fret inlays

The paint job is a bit weird too. It is black with barbed wire graphics under the clearcoat - looks factory.
All Iv been told is that the higher RG models were made at Fujigen in japan, and that they stopped making them with the inverted headstock about 10 years ago.

I know there is no info that can be had from the serial number other than production plant, year and build number - so I wont post it.

It's basically an electro/dance rock album so it's mostly electronic drums, but we've put mine in to fill it out and 'humanise' it a bit .

One of my good friends, Alex, started a local band a couple of years ago. They decided to name themselves Isabella, and have been doing very well lately. A couple of months ago they won a contest and we able to play at Pointfest in St. Louis, MO.

They continue to do well, and have actually landed a record signing. You may see their CD on shelves within the next year!

Bathory was a viking metal band from Sweden, originally started as a black/thrash metal project by one man, Quorthon, in mid 80's, who died in 2004 from a heart failure.

Nordland I (there is also II), is a great viking metal album. The songs are about, well, vikings and Scandinavian folklore. This is also a great album for those of you who don't really like metal, but would like to try. The songs are not aggressive, at least that's my opinion, and the beautifully written lyrical theme is very interesting.
Bathory's music is a must for any metal fan out there.

Last week, I bought the new Megadeth album, Endgame. I bought it the day it came out, took it home, and listened to it. I must admit that I was a little nervous because Megadeth's last album, United Abominations, wasn't too great, but I still decided to get it because I'm a Megadeth fan and they're one of my favorite bands (if not my all-time favorite).

This album ended up being an incredible album. This was their best album since Rust In Peace. In my opinion, if you're a metal fan, this is an album that you must listen to. The best songs are track one and three. Track one, called Dialectic Chaos, is a two and a half minute guitar solo. Track three, called 44 Minutes, is four and a half minutes of pure epicness.

Anyways... Has anyone else heard this album? I wanted to post it here because I wanted to know if it's just me that thinks that this is nothing short of incredible or if other people think that because it really is nothing short of incredible. ...

Two of metal's biggest names on the same bill?!! Megadeth and Slayer - almost seemed too good to be true! Well, for Adelaide punters it was. With Slayer cancelled due to illness on show day, Megadeth were left with the option of a longer set and the Slayer fans who were camped out the front of the Thebby all day were left pissed!

I was bummed, but knew the photography opportunities would be great either way!

Hey everyone, I know this probably won't interest anyone outside of Australia, in fact most people from within Australia haven't even heard of him. Either way, I needed to tell someone about seeing Ash Grunwald live last night, and he was freaking amazing. Not only was his guitar superb the two drummers in the band were absolutely insane, officially awesome.

But the major turnup for the night was finding a local group called AppleJack, these guys played earlier in the night and were fantastic. I ended up chatting to the guys after their set and they said they got someone to film the show, so they are hoping to have some stuff up on youtube pretty soon. Well worth a listen and when they let me know it's happening I'll let you all know. Because that's what communities all about right?

Well, off to sleep now, because I had about 3 hours in the past 48.

Tim Rogers doesn't need to advertise his solo shows. Right across the country the man sells out intimate venues like the Grace Emily (and two nights running none-the-less!) performing in solo mode. So unadvertised was this show that I didn't even know it was on until the day before!

A tight squeeze right up to the stage meant it would be difficult to suss good spots and angles, but not impossible. Familiar faces in the Grace tonight kindly let me past them in order to get right to the front of the stage (thanks Noir!).

That challenge over, the next one presented itself: Tim was donning a cowboy hat and shooting upwards with what available lighting there was cast a nasty shadow right over his face. I could tell this was not going to change unless the hat came off. Thankfully it did towards the end of the show, but until then I shot at f/2.8, ISO 1600, 1/60 and cursed myself for not having a faster lens

Tim Rogers is no stranger to a drink, having downed a bottle of white (no glass needed!) during his show and a number of beers later. I caught up with him after the show and we chatted about Sydney (my hometown, often mentioned in his music) and I asked if a publicity shot for the magazine would be cool. He was keen to pose for me, but made it clear they were not for the magazine and he was doing it for me personally. No sweat. I found a nice corner in the Grace, and cleared the table thinking he would sit at it kind of portrait style. ...

Have skated with these guys for as long as I've been in Adelaide, yet since the demise of previous band "Loot" I'd never seen The Slime Balls play live.

I was ready for the sketchy lighting at the Cranka and rocked with two flashes - 1 off camera (naked), the other on (diffused). This kinda ruined their ambience, as the boys had brought their own green lights and smoke machine and killed whatever other lights were available to create a green misty, slimey haze. I tried to keep as much of that haze as possible, but still, these are totally different to what the stage looked like that night.

Following the release of "A Looking in View," Alice in Chains has released yet another song, "Check My Brain," off their upcoming album, "Black Gives Way to Blue." The song is appropriate as a single, since it is almost 4 minutes, and has a simple, digestible vocal melody that is sure to be enjoyed by the long-time fans, newer enthusiasts, and the casual people jumping on the bandwagon of AIC hype.

The song starts with thick, viscous single-note riff that constantly shifts, like a doll made of wet mud that just can't keep its shape. The tone of the guitar sounds heavy, but less metallic than "A Looking in View." Relatively lighter distortion ironically enhances the sludginess of the riff, simply because this song is a mid-tempo song, like a walking speed.

"Check My Brain" doesn't waste much time developing itself. The cymbals come in at 9th second, then the rest of the drums and bass come in rumbling unison at 0:16. The dreadful, yet curiously hummable vocal melodies come in at around 0:35, which is a dual vocals of Jerry Cantrell (singing the lower part) and William Duvall (singing the higher part). Both vocals are laced with echoing effects and, possibly dubbing, which make the vocal lines very thick and gives the listener an illusion of multiple vocal melodies, when in fact it is only two melodical lines superimposed. While later works of Layne-era AIC perfected the art of vocal melody and use of dissonance (especially on their self-titled album, "Get Born Again," and "Died"), it seems like AIC has either regressed a little on that department, or that such brilliance was exclusively Layne Staley's talent. Either way, I personally hoped to hear dense vocals with 3, 4, or even 5 different melodies intertwining with each other, much like that of "Frogs," "Died," or "Again," but instead the song progresses with 2 vocal lines throughout. That is not a bad thing at all though, since the harmonization on this song is more along the lines of Dirt/Jar of Flies era.

Props goes to William DuVall here. His vocal input makes this song sound like an Alice in Chains rather than Jerry Cantrell's solo song. While he doesn't sound like Layne, nor attempts to in any way, his vocals are mixed and produced in somewhat subdued way, ultimately lending a hand in creating a signature AIC sound without harvesting much attention to himself. ...
