Music : Give me some more prog to listen to!

Ok guys, my selection of music is getting a little old and I've started listening to some of my older punk music (none of this newer pop punk garbage) just to space out the hearings of my prog/metal stuff.

So the bands I really like are:

Symphony X (I have all the albums from Divine Wings - Paradise Lost)
Dream Theater (Everything from Images and Words to 6 Degrees... I have Octavarium and SC but don't like them)
Porcupine Tree (a few songs off Deadwing and In Absentia)
Incubus (Science and Make Yourself)
On The Virg (Serious Young Insects and Just Add Water)
Pain of Salvation (Be)
Tony Macalpine (Evolution, Chromaticity, Madness, CAB, CAB4)
Dave Weckl Band (Multiplicity)
Karizma (Document)

And I'm filling in the gaps with some Mxpx, Blink 182, Frenzal Rhomb, Good Riddance, Strung Out, and a few others.

Anyway, I'm trying to add more progressive metal bands to my repertoire. Any suggestions? I am BIG on good musicality, it has to be creative and well written. I also like some good fusion (Karizma, Chick Corea's Elektric Band, Dave Weckl Band, CAB) and I'm trying to find more of that as well.

I'm getting a 16gb memory stick today to use with my new car stereo and I've got 9gb of music already to put on it - about 1500 songs - so I've still got PLENTY of room for more music!

Metallica's yet-to-be-titled ninth studio album is planned to be released by early 2008.
Metallica has written about 25 songs for its ninth studio effort and is now concentrating on trimming that list to one album's worth of material, which it will begin recording in January. Drummer Lars Ulrich told us that the band's summer European tour, on which Metallica played its classic 1986 album Master of Puppets in its entirety, paved the way for the sound of the new album.
So it is going to be as good as Master Of Puppets. I can't wait to get my hands on this album!

I love music (who doesn't?) I always say that I listen to everything and anything but I want to cover more of a range and actually listen to everything and anything (or at least more of it).

When people ask me what kind of music do I listen to - I used to say "everything really, just not so much METAL or RAP" To be honest, I still don't listen to Metal or Rap that much but I've come to find not ALL metal bands have singers that only screams.

So... here's my request - look in your CD collection and tell me your top 1, 2, or 3 picks of albums you think everyone should have in their CD collection.

Does not matter if it's old, new, just stuff that I can go to the store and grab if I want to check it out.

Also, it doesn't matter what genre it's in whether it's Jazz, Metal, Country, Oldies, whatever... you get the picture.

This thread is for those of you who want to recommend a good artist to the community. Do you like a certain artist? Post few words about this artist, like: Where is he/she from? What music style are he/she playing? etc.

Bathory

Bathory was a viking metal band from Sweden, originally started as a black/thrash metal project by one man, Quorthon, in mid 80's, who died in 2004 from a heart failure.

Nordland I (there is also II), is a great viking metal album. The songs are about, well, vikings and Scandinavian folklore. This is also a great album for those of you who don't really like metal, but would like to try. The songs are not aggressive, at least that's my opinion, and the beautifully written lyrical theme is very interesting.
Bathory's music is a must for any metal fan out there.

After several of discussions and misunderstandings under the category Black Metal regarding Viking Metal, that is about norse mythology and not satanism as typically for the genre of Black Metal, has I desired to release the sub-sub genre Viking Metal from hell, as at my opinion that the norse mythology and asatru is more colorful than satanism, and then further that Black Metal is often connected to Antichrist what Viking Metal isn't. (I know that some bands are, but it isn't directly connected to the genre, as Black Metal does)

... And as the interests for the norse mythology and asatru is growing would it also be in place to take that discussion under this category.

I'm creating a small propagandic film and I need some dark, preferrably classical music to go with it.

There is one in particular used often, and I believe it was used in the credits for Stephen Hawking's A Brief History of Time that would probably fit extremely well for this film.

Neptune from Gustav Holst's The Planets is almost right but it's far too mellow, and Saturn is too regal and spacey.

However, I'd like to hear any reccomendations you have for intimidating, or dark, classical music since I don't have a good collection of this kind of music.

Maylene and the Sons of Disaster is a Christian metal band with southern metal and Metalcore influences that formed in 2004 in Birmingham, Alabama and began touring the southern U.S. In 2005, Maylene and the Sons of Disaster signed to Mono Vs Stereo and released their self-titled debut album.

Dallas Taylor is the most notable member of Maylene and the Sons of Disaster. He was the original vocalist for the metalcore band, Underoath, but was "asked to leave" the band in late 2003.

The band name and concept are based on the legend of the criminal gang of Ma Barker and her sons, noting that evil lifestyles will be met with "divine justice".

Note: Rock and Metal are seperated because, in my opinion, Metal has become a different genre with it's own sub-genres.
Just wanted to mention this because Metal was known to be a sub-genre of Rock.

I seen there was a topic for good music themes, but we are talking about soundtracks.
I gotto to say that if you love rock, well , actually metal. the
Queen of the Damned soundtrack is probably the best you will find around. i haven't heard other good stuff.
Some that were semi-good
Scorpion King Soundtrack<< pretty good
DareDevil<< alright

And for rap,
Nothing really beat the 8 mile soundtrack.

Hi there,

I did tried to search for a topic that was regarded and dedicated to the grand old school Heavy Metal band, called Judas Priest.

Disappointed to find out that these guys from Birmingham founded in 1967, actually the same year and town as some other guys called Black Sabbath, hasn't been paid any attention in here.

The strange thing is like that Judas Priest has also been as much important to the metal scene like all others old school metal bands, and they was also co-founder of NWOBHM like Iron Maiden, Saxon, Motorhead etc., but seems forgotten.

So therefore would I like to dedicate this topic to these Metal Monsters, who just has released something special called "Nostradamus".
