Sports : American Football

Anyone as antsy as me for football to start? I am literally on the edge of my seat, because there is nothing for me to watch on TV. The writer's strike took away all my favorite shows, and football is the only sport I enjoy watching.

Mostly, I'm anxious for the Nebraska Cornhusker season to start. New coach, new attitude. It should be very interesting to see what they can do this year. I think the whole season depends on how much their defense can improve in the offseason though. If we have a horrible D again, it's going to be one long year. However, I have hopes that it will at least be decent since we have one of the best defensive minds as our head coach (Bo Pelini).

I realize our defense isn't going to copy LSU's right away, but I'm just hoping it's halfway decent and not the crap I saw on the field last year. ...

Anyone watching?
My home town team, Barnsley (small town in the north) have made it to the semi-finals and will play another small team, Cardiff at Wembley Stadium for a chance to play in the final.
Barnsley have already beaten Liverpool and Chelsea in the last 2 rounds, so have got there the hard way.
I'm supporting them for the afternoon, though my team is Leeds.

I would definitely agree with what this person wrote. Uninterupted plays and team play is kinda what turns off americans to sports such that of soccer and other European sports.

Tim Donaghy, an ex-NBA-ref, has stated that many aspects of the NBA are fixed. Specifically, he points to the 2002 Western Conference finals between the Lakers and the Kings. He states that the series was fixed so that it went all 7 games and to ensure that the Lakers reached the finals.

I'm not going to comment on whether or not these allegations are true, but I can say that out of all the professional sports (PGA, PBA, NFL, MLB, NHL), I could definitely see the NBA being fixed. The interest in the NBA has declined significantly, ever since Michael Jordan left (for the first time). I know I haven't been into basketball since he has left, and I know many others who feel the same way.

It's obvious the NBA wants more and more people to watch, so it could be in their favor to pick which teams could be used to maximize profits. Not saying this is actually happening, but I could see it as a true statement.

So actually im big fan of XC riding. I bought recently Scott Aspect 40, it lacks some things like for example good fork but im keeping it in good condition. My thing is that i wish to know what you ride and what discipline (i.e. DH, Freeride, Street, etc.) you prefer, how many km you have dont in this season, max speed, avarage speed... just show us your achievments

The NBA is going out of control. Teams are picking up all the good players and putting them on one team. It isn't even any fun to watch anymore. The last time I really watched a game was when the Heat beat the Mavs in the 06 finals. That was one of the best playoffs I had ever seen. (Behind the Giants winning the super bowl ) Hopefully it gets better soon.

Lewis Hamilton made a great start to the season with his win last Sunday in Melbourne.
I sure hope he wins it this year after coming so close in 2007.

Three different teams on the podium, just seven cars running at the finish and not a red one in sight
Not one of the 6 Ferrari engined cars even finished the race so McClaren are way ahead also.

I couldn't believe it when Kimi Räikkönen, the current world champion, ran off the track twice, but it sure was entertaining.

I feel that I had been using so much computers nowadays that I am getting unhealthy with the lack of exercise. However, after so many years of "reduced" amount of exercise, I now find it very hard to keep up with a training plan. I either get "too busy" or "too lazy" to exercise, despite the fact that I know I should be exercising. Any suggestions to help me get more discipline when it comes to exercising?

Couldn't think of any other to place to start this topic except maybe in general chat so if it is in the wrong forum I apologize.

Have a daughter who is interested in playing a sport in college is a recruit for several colleges. Can anyone offer any advise if they have gone through this process or has had children go through or is going through this process. I know there are many sites out there with a guideline, but I would like to get people's personal experiences as another way of helping her to deal with her decisions. She is a junior in high school. Some d1 and d2 colleges have expressed interest in having her come to their school to play for them. We haven't taken any visits to the schools yet, but we are planning to do so very soon. She has signed up for the ncaa clearinghouse, sent videos and info, and I have created a website for her which has helped the coaches to get information about her.

There are sites out there that help football, baseball and basketball recruits, but none that I could find on girls lacrosse.

Any help or stories would be appreciated.

Friday night rode over to Oulton Park International motor racing circuit in Northern England) with my pal for a day at the races on saturday. It was good of Lee, another friend, to ride his Vespa the 250+ miles up from South Wales on his own, and Paul to glide up on that bloody big greasemachine of his from near London...hope they had a good day, despite our scooter club's Lambretta not performing. First practise saw our man Martin get out & complete the session, but sounding a bit rough....turned out he'd pretty much done the lot in 3rd gear as he couldn't get 4th!
After some tinkering & a bit of carb tuning it was 1st race time and the thing was a pig to start, but he made the starting gate, just in time. The parade lap saw all scooters re-emerge on the grid, all except for our man Martin....it'd siezed on the way round & after the race a strip of the top end showed pretty sever damage. The rings were worked out of the piston-sieze, bits cleaned up etc & re-assembled, but it was all to no avail as it died again, just before race 2 was called.
The racing really was a joy, despite Martin not being involved, and the current bun did it's best....sunburn round me neck now & stings like hell when I look back over either shoulder on the scooter.
Great ride back over the Pennines with yet another friend, Steve, who'd made it out for the day, saturday teatime.

Ok, so the Lakers and Celtics are in the conference finals.....back to the future I guess. And facing them are the new versions of them, the Spurs and Pistons, two franchises that have been very succesful lately. Who do you think will win these series and the NBA finals?

Sports : Dakar 2008 CANCELLED

The 2008 Dakar Rally has been cancelled over concerns about the safety of the event in Mauritania following terrorist threats from Al Qaeda.

The French government warned the Dakar organisers yesterday against holding stages in Mauritania because it said "the terrorist risk" could not be ruled out.

A source close to the organization has told autosport.com that they have decided to cancel the event, and an official announcement is expected at 1pm in Lisbon, where the rally was scheduled to begin tomorrow.

That's really sad news, I always loved the rally Dakar, watching those bikes on the dunes is so great. But terrorism managed to ruin it down. Africa is so messed up!

Zenit St Petersburg have won the UEFA Cup Final. An amazing victory for a Russian team!

They look really strong, don't they?

Rangers are also playing very well like they have throughout the season. So, it was a hard fought victory!

Football
Hockey
Lacrosse
And basketball.
Non-american sports
Cricket, soccer, badminton, etc..

Sports : flatland skimboarding

My favorite sport is skimboarding. It's like wave skimboarding only you do it on ramps and rails. Has anyone else here ever heard of it. I'm going to be competing later this month. I am in the Pacific North West, but it's big in Vancouver and Sacramento as well.
