What is the best way to store images? Is it best to store images all in one folder and have a database filled with the URLs, or is it possible to directly store images in a database?

I'm quite surprised to be the first person to mention this on the forum (Am I the only one noobish enough to encounter this error on here?) or at least the search function didn't yield any relevant topics. So here it is:

I'm building a site with dynamic content and when I try to include a file which contains a php include() function in itself, it wont work. After some checking I narrowed down the problem: the include() function is being included along with the rest of the file, but it is not recognized as php code, it just appears as php code in page that isn't being evaluated.

I did some quick research and there seems to be a major problem with multimple include php statements. Another site said it will work fine if you include the proper php tags. I

did

that of course, and no joy.

Help is appreciated greatly!

Currently, I am looking at ways to store massive amounts of data, and I have some questions.

Let's look at Facebook for example.

Dozens of comments can be posted on every status, fan page update, photo, video, link, post etc. How would this information be stored?

Would it be efficient to have one insanely massive table that stores a comment id, user id, the id of what it was posted on, and the comment text in a row for every single comment? Would it be more efficient to have a table for each post type (photos, statuses, etc.) And post the same information to there? Is there another method that I am not considering?

Now, I am currently looking at various managed dedicated server services and a lot of them are talking about servers for a web layer, an application layer, and a database layer and then a development/management server.

Does that mean that there is a set of servers to store and process the front end HTML, CSS, JavaScript, etc., a set of servers to store back end PHP, Java, etc., a database server to store MySQL databases and a development/management server to manage all the other servers?

Do you know of any resources that I can look at to learn about creating applications using this system?

OKay, maybe the headline is bit wrong but what i want to do is this:

I have textbox which sends data to my databases, you can also view what people have entered etc. What i want to do is this. Lets say i have fixed table height about 1000px. I don't want that script stores more, iwanted to old ones move to page 2 etc. example is here http://tre.ee/?plk=1 , My site planet.frihost.org . Thanks for helping.

OK, on a form, I'm checking three text-boxes to make sure ALL have (numerical) entries, or NONE have entries. If only one or two boxes have entries, I want to prompt the page viewer that he has made an incomplete data entry. If none of the three have entries, then nothing should happen.

Here's my PHP code.

We are trying to build an online testing system. Which has a lot of feature.
There is a student part and there is a teacher part.
A Student can login and do the test while teacher authorizes the test.
There is a countdown timer in the test.
We are using a session variable , AJAX and setinterval to countdown the timer. But the other thing is that we should also put a function into the teacher side that they can pause a test and resume a test.
Well at first I thought I could make it pause by using the AJAX. But actually it does not work I don't know what is the problem. Either the setinterval or the SESSION variable.

I have been working on pulling data from warcraft III clan rosters, and now that I have a functioning module. I'd like some help cleaning it up.

The html source ended up being a lot more messy than I would have hoped, but I can't do much about that. What I can do is try to clean up this script a bit, if you guys see anything that could be made more efficient let me know. (I'm sure there is plenty.)

Currently I have no plans to cache the data. To my knowledge battle.net does not have the same limitations on it as wowarmory.com. This means it *shouldn't* hurt me to pull live data. If it turns out I need to write a cache I have a system for xml cacheing right now, html can't be much harder to store. I'm hopeing to get this script cleaned up so I can spread it around the warcraft III community, I'm sure someone is going to find it useful.

Hello,

I am looking for a simple calendar I can add to my site. I went to do some googling, but most of the calendars out there are WAY too advanced for my use.

What I basicly need is a calendar (monthly calendar) that lists all the days of the month. I should be able to add events, that will make the date look colored on the calendar. If people would click on the date, they would be redirected to a page I costumly made.

If anyone got any suggestions of websites with scripts/what would the best way to do it, please let me know!

I've been googling this for literally two hours, and finding nothing that is exactly what I need. Forgive me , but I'm unfamiliar with PHP, so there's just no way I can do this myself. If you know of a tutorial that explains what I need, please point me in that direction, if you don't want to explain it to me yourself.

What I need is this: I want to generate an image url that I can display on any webpage that will display a random image from a directory. I've found numerous scripts on how to create the random image, and I've done that, but I don't know where to go from here, or if I'm even in the right direction at all.

I want to find a way to auto update a page to the newest content as change happens. For instance, like in an instant messenger conversation you see what the other person sends you without having to refresh anything.

I've ran into this problem before and basically implemented an AJAX script that fetched data from the server every half a second. This worked, but it was an incredible bandwidth hog. I need find a way to do this by using as little bandwidth as possible yet still make things seamless and smooth.

Any ideas?

Long, sorry, but I wanted to get precise. I am a noob when it comes to PHP cookies, but I've learned enough to at least start.. or so I thought. For some reason, after many attempts, I am unable to get the cookie to work. The session works completely fine, but I'm not sure if it's 'hurting' the cookie.

I'm also sure that just because of the size of this simple script, there's more than just cookie errors . Yes, I do clear my cookies before every test. I've tried this in both IE and Google Chrome and the result is the same: The cookie never seems to be listed.

Any help is appreciated. Just note that the above script was made for testing, so no comments on how bad it is

I am almost NILL in REGEX, and i always look for help when it comes to regular expressions. Few months ago, i saw the following email pattern:

but today, at php security website (http://phpsec.org/projects/guide/1.html#1.4.3) i saw the following one:

Can you please tell me which one better describes Email Addresses, and whats the difference in the above 2!

Php and MySQL : Possible to reduce minutes from PHP?

I am making a PHP script that checks who's online and who's not. Anyways, I am using this code:

$date = date("Gi");
$tdate = $date - 60;
echo $tdate;
?>

Let's say the time is currently 17:51 (24 hour time) and I wanted to remove 60 minutes (making it 16:51) with the code above it just makes it 1691. So, I was wondering if there was a script or function that keeps it in the time format? So I wanna take 17:51, minus 60 minutes making it 16:51. I'm pretty sure it's doable, just unsure on how to do it.
