Php and MySQL : how to make an engine of writing articles logged on page?

As far as i know, you can't use fopen function here? Am i right with this one? If yes, i couldn't use fwrite function, so i couldn't create a document when i'm logged in to admin panel let's say. Or is there another function which is avaible on passing through this problem?

In my opinion, the engine should be like this. Admin panel with text area in which you write an article with html symbols, such as <html><b><font ..>. All of the text is written in .html document, and in news section it is opened like a html file.

Any suggestions of those who understood what i was trying to explain?

i know how to substr works and i always use it to display limit but when i try to limit for ex. 50 letters then in the content there is a html tag and the closing tags is out of 50 of course you will see some abnormalities on the content. so i want to know if how i could fix it....

I have been seaching through http://ie.php.net/manual/en/ref.image.php and messing around with functions such as

I can get the two images to merge, but I have a problem. I need the jpeg to be behind the png and it to be transperent. So that you can see the jpeg behind the png. Anyone got a script that might do somthing like this or know of a more helpful function? I have been seaching for two days for this, so I dont want people posting the url to php.net/manual. I have looked and googled alot before I came here.

Php and MySQL : Problem with Mybb :: Changing DB Username

I was using an older host when I found this one, and I did have the Mybb forums on my old subdomain. Both hosts uses Cpanel, so that might cure some questions you might have. What I'm having trouble with is the old Cpanel username on the other host was different than this current one. Is there any way to either change the codes in the forums/database to fix this problem (because it can't connect to the database) or a way to change the username at this host? I used a backup of the database from the old forums and added them onto this new host. And i obviously added all the forum files (tyvm, zip files ^^).

I'm not that great with databases, so please be specific.

Php and MySQL : PHP creating scheduled tasks?

I'm exploring new ideas with my server and I have gotten the thought of a calendar system between the two computers. I am a very forgetful person, so the fact that my computer could remind me of what I need to do, such as a upcoming events for my technical productions crew at my school.

So, I am aware that PHP can create batch files with net send within it, but can PHP create scheduled tasks within the computer itself? If not, is there anyway I can get PHP to check if it's a certain time and if it is to execute a file?

How do I use XML with PHP?

First put all the data in a variable (ie. with fopen). Then use SimpleXML to make an object of the xml file.

How do I use cookies?

To set a cookie use setcookie. To read the cookie use $_COOKIE['var'].

How do I use sessions?

Does frihost have extension x enabled?

To see all the info about the frihost php installation take a look at the php info pages. The info pages for server 1, server 2 and server 3. New accounts are created on server 1. If you want to know on what server you are on pm a mod or admin.

Hi everyone. I'm still pretty new to PHP so am struggling to implement things at the moment.

At the moment I have a feedback form on a website which works really well. But due to a recent spate of "spam" via the form, I would like to implement a "captcha" script to force users to enter a confirmation code before allowing the form to be processed and emailed.

I have found a script at http://www.white-hat-web-design.co.uk/articles/php-captcha.php but am struggling to get it to work with my current form handling script. I'm not sure which bits go where basically.

Here is the code the website asks you to include on your form page.

Okay, so I need a quick tip. What is the best way to make sure that included pages aren't visited in an unintended way, that is very efficient and simple.

Like, if website.com/main/loginFormProcess.php is included in website.com/index.php?action=login, I want to prevent someone from going to website.com/main/loginFormProcess.php and setting fake cookies.

So as I have said before in a few other posts... I am making a game.

One of the siege weapons is a battering ram.

One of the upgrades for it is a handbrake.

The game will be placed on the server using a PHP install script similar to phpBB or phpNuke.

Now let's say world 1 has a hand brake, but world 2 does not.

In the installation script, would it be more efficient to have the PHP script go in and remove all battering ram combinations that have a hand brake so that they don't go into the battering ram combinations table, or would it work better to make the full tables with the hand brake included, and then have a second script remove all rows that have the handbrake?

is_login() checks whether the person is logged in!!

the redirect URL is saved in sessions and everytime user logges out, it saves the referal url in the session and then after logout takes user back to the referal page.

I have developed a script that starts a session whenever a user (whether logged in or not) comes to the site, so if 100,000 unique people come to site, 100,000 sessions are generated.

I am using a session based redirection system so that when every time a page loads, a new session variable is created (inside session array) without deleting or unsetting the previous one. That new variable contains the URL of current page.

This redirection system is perfect in solving my needs, but now I am curious about side effects.

The script is excessively (but not unnecessarily) creating session variables on each page, so that one unique visiter after 100 page visits has 100+ session variables in his session.

The problem

is that mostly users leave the site without any clue and without logging off (if logged in). This keeps the sessions and sessions variable untouched and a lot of precious disk space may be left occupied when heavy strings (like URLs) are saved in sessions.

I want to delete these sessions periodically (say after exactly 10 days of creating session), so that only latest sessions are left on the disk. Can you please tell me how to do this?
Can someone provide me possible solution like modifying php settings, or using CRONJOBS (script).
Or give me an alternative suggestions?

Okay, so in my game, which is browser based, you will be able to station soldiers any where you want in the world. An optimal place would be on a bridge between two islands. Now say someone sent a team of Scouts to check out an area across the bridge. They get to the bridge and they turn around and they don't come back with a scout report of the intended destination, but of the bridge becuase they could not get past.

Now say that same person sends a full-scale attack to the intended destination of the scouts. I want a JavaScript pop-up to come up saying "Are you sure you want to take that route? The bridge is covered in enemies!" The person will then be able to cancel the attack so that is doesn't get killed on the bridge.

What I want to know is how do I store who has seen what enemy camp?

This will be sort of like the system for unread posts on a forum.

If someone's scouts have seen an enemy camp, that person will get a warning that they are going to go past it, but if someone's scouts DIDN'T see the enemy camp, the person will receive no danger warning.

How would I implement a system like this?

Okay, so I am making this game and it is a sort of medieval based browser game. It has tons of customizations, but I can't figure out how to sort them all out.

See, here is my dilemma:

In the game, there is a machine shop that can make different kinds of siege weapons.

One of the weapons is a battering ram.

The battering ram has a ton of customizations. 4 different kinds of wheel, 2 different kinds of braking system, 5 different Ram heads, 4 different things to make it stronger 5 different kinds of support structures.

My problem is that, in the machine shop, someone could select to build 10 battering rams with basic wheels, a hand brake, a steel ram head, a spike in the head, and a square structure.

Then they could make 20 more rams that have steel wheels, grappling hook brakes, a blunt steel head, an archer deck, and a triangular support.

These two different types of battering rams will have different attack and defense strengths and different purposes.

My problem is storing the information of who has how many of what ram. I didn't even list all the combinations. There are hundreds of total combinations.

What would be the best way to store the data saying Player A has 500 of the first kind I listed, 20 of the second kind, and 500 of some other combination, while Player B has something totally different.

I was thinking that maybe each individual weapon could have it's own database with every possible combination in it, and every combination is numbered and in the user's file it would show what numbers the player has. Would this work? Anyone have any ideas for simpler way?

So I am making this game that is town based and everyone runs their own town. You can conquer towns next to you to expand your empire. The thing with this is that when you conquer the town next to you, the two towns merge into one larger town.

On the world map, I want to be able to show a different image showing the two merged towns. What would be the best way to do this? (This is a browser based game.)

I have started to make an online athletics game (track and field). I haven't got very far yet.

I want a transfer list where you can search athletes to buy. The thing is that the users should be able to set some search parameters to easily find the athlete they want. For example if we want to list athletes that have more than 5 in speed and more than 3 in stamina but costs less than 25000 the query will probably look something like this:

What I'm worrying about is that if there is a huge number of athletes on the transfer list it might get slow to do this kind of queries. I have thought about using indexes but it looks almost impossible. There will off course be a lot more parameters than just speed and stamina. If I add an index on speed and one index on stamina it will not be possible to use indexes all the way to pick the rows. if I set an index on both speed and stamina it will not help if I search for another parameter. I can't add indexes for all possible combinations. It will be TOO slow during inserts. ...

I'm making a simple image gallery for a friend and I think I'm going to make it dynamic so I don't have to hardcode each image.

I have an example here.

Basically, each page should look for a specific sub directory of gallery for it's page, then for each sub directory within that, it would be a section with a thumb.jpg and images labeled "01 - name _thumb.jpg" "01 - name _normal.jpg" and "01 - name _large.jpg" etc.
Each image would be placed like the example above and I know what html formatting I need.

My question is, being rusty with php, how do I get an array of these images from a directory?
Also, is it easier to have php resize the images (thumbnails and mid-size preview from a large one) or would this be slower than having all sizes already made?

So if someone could give me a quick example of reading all the images in directories based on the current page, that would be great.

My page doesn't work

On my forum, there is an icon submissions page where people submit an icon and somebody with a specific ranking and up can upload them. Problem is, when I click the upload icon button, nothing seems to happen. It's as if the page just refreshes. The icon doesn't get uploaded when I click upload, but it does get rejected if I click reject.

It works like this: icons are submitted, a staff member from my forums looks through the icons and checks the box of the good ones, and uploads them. The icons go from being in the table_icon_submissions to being in the table_icons from which they can be selected and used.

Can anybody offer any help? I can provide the files if necessary.

Hey guys,

I'm having some trouble with MySQL databases.

I had a Joomla install at my parked domain www.pwnedinrl.com, http://www.pwnedinrl.frihost.net/

I made no changes to this install and I now get the error "Database Error: Unable to connect to the database:Could not connect to MySQL" whenever I go to either of the addresses.

I did install a few new databases namely Wordpress to www.pwnedinrl.com/fxprices.net/ when I follow this link it works fine, I've setup the addon domain and when I go to fxprices.net I get the same error as above WTF.

I have another website hosted on here www.smasha.net which isn't MySQL driven and that is completely unaffected.

So i'm not sure if the 2 issues are related or completely seperate. Any help much appreciated as I'm a total noob at MySQL. Could making the wordpress database have affected the Joomla one?

EDIT: I think its because I've changed the password for my user, so the latest database works fine and now the old ones don't. I should be able to sort it out solo, thanks. Anyone got any tip for the best way to setup more than 1 database user?

How do I set this variable?

Some configuration file for MySQL needs the following text:

CHARACTER_SET_RESULTS = LATIN1

Whatever character set isn't as important as this variable be present in the config file. Upgraded to new version of MySQL and that is cool!!! Only a couple more steps and I can really get down to programming some cool stuff.

I just don't know how to set this up given my level of access.

I am working on this game, and it is a kind of browser-based RTS. There is a building cache where you put buildings in to upgrade them. Most upgrades will take at the bare minimum a few minutes. What i want to do is show in that building cache when the building will be complete and how much time is left on a count-down timer. I am trying to figure out the best way to do this.

Does this sound logical:

They click the upgrade button and the building goes to the game-wide building cache database, which is ordered ascending of which building will be completed first. When they click on the button to see the buildings in the cache, it will send a request to the database requesting the completion times of all their buildings. The count down timer will show how long until the building is done and it will be accurate within 2 seconds. When the timer hits zero, a query will be sent to the database that removes all the completed buildings, and the page is refreshed by the Javascript timer.

Does this sound efficient to you?

It will work in clearing out the database becuase every time the building cache page is loaded, it sends the command out to remove all completed buildings before it even calls on the persons unfinished buildings. So if no one at all is logged on for 5 days, buildings that finish anytime in that five days won't be removed until one person checks on their own building cache, then all completed ones will be gone.

Okay, so I am having some problems with a Browser Based game that I am making. How it will work is you go to a main website and you can see news, sign up for an account, check out the forums, etc. On that web page, the will be listings for different Worlds there. You can choose World 1, World 2, World 3, and so on. I know for a fact that I will be hosting the website, the testing world, and 2 or 3 worlds, but I want to do a sort of remote hosting thing where someone can host a world on their own servers.

If you want to go to World One, when you click on the login link on the main page, it will take you to http://w1.example.com. Well, if someone else is hosting World 2, how do I get it that when you click on the link, you go to w2.example.com and every page you go to there is w2.example.com/index.php?page=whatever, but the page layout, images, text, and database is coming from the other persons server.

Hi there

I am working on a project were I have an existting image of 300dpi and I want to write text to the image. The image most then be outputted to the browser including the text at 300dpi and then I wish to save the image to a file. I.E that the text is now one with the image and is printable. Thats why it has to be 300dpi.

Which functions from the GB/ImageMagick etc do I need to make the text and image one and what function allows the image to be outputted at 300dpi
