Design Tips : Dreamweaver easy to use?

I use Microsoft Publisher for my web building which seems to be very uncommon here.

I am thinking about buying Dreamweaver 8 because I hear it is easy to use and you can have webpages centered, and it comes with alot of nice tools, but when I got a Demo Version it seems very frustrating to use as when I post images in the page and they have to be in a certain area and not just drug anywhere like in Publisher. Many people say it is pretty easy to make nice pages so I want your opinions.

I am pretty good with coding but I generally use Design view and then edit the code to my liking to make it center and whatnot, so I am looking for a good website builder, that allows me to see what I am doing.

Would you recommend Dreamweaver or is there a better program that allows me to see what I am doing? (I have Frontpage 2003 but I hear that teaches people the wrong way of coding.)

I learned something yesterday. Possibly this is elementary for most of you, but it gave me a great thrill when it succeeded in the end. I am not a professional Web designer. It is just a hobby for me. So for lack of anybody else with the know-how I designed a Website for our Department at work in 2002 using FrontPage 2000 (I now use FrontPage 2003). At that time all of us had 14 or 15 inch monitors and it looked quite OK. Then a year ago when we were given new hardware those who qualified for new hardware were given 19 inch HP LCD monitors which was like jumping from the archaic to modern. I then received complaints from people who still had the smaller resolution screens that they could not see the shortcuts in the title bar of the Website, i.e. like the ones of Frihost above. Some of the shortcuts folded in or disappeared on their screens.

I then had to puzzle about this, and after working it out over a month or so came up with a solution. ...

Design Tips : What would you like to see more of?

I am quite bored and need a summer project to work on. I was wondering what you, as viewers, would like to see more of. Currently, I only have two ideas:

1. "ShareYW" - Share Your Web, a free online directory tool that allows users to manage their sites with stats and such.

2. "YourFTP" - A free online FTP client where users can manage files and such over the internet instead of with a client.

So what is your suggestion? Thanks!

Who has many websites, can you give me a general idea how is it possible? I have only one and it takes a lot of time to select information, illustrations, select the better story line, actually write, edit and so on (aquarium hobby related). No time for another one at all.

What makes it possible:
- different type of website, like based on self expression and fast typing,
- different software, speeding the process,
- different format, like php instead of html with css,
- just work faster?

No offense meant with my assumptions, really. Just curious, how is it possible for some to make and maintain ten websites, while my one takes all the time.

What's the opinion of people on frih? To what extet does a wesite have to be 100% from-scratch (i.e. using a CMS, but with no templates on which you ase your work) to qualify as 'your site'? A pretty big professional developer I knew sold a slightly-customised Wordpress install as 'his site', but in the past I've been told that calling a site 'my work' when it was based on an heavily-customised non-default e107 template (with work done to the e107 code as well) was dishonest.

So, Frihost developers, how much work does a site need before it's "yours"? Or is it something different that lets you make that claim?

I think what helped me when I started to learn how to do a Website was that I had materials that I wanted to publish on the Internet. I was completely gung-ho and driven, and that does make learning that much more focussed and motivated. All I needed were the tools to publish the Website. It was the content that spurred me on. I learned by doing. I tried various software programmes, including writing my own HTML, however, found FrontPage the easiest package with just the right amount of sophistication for me, as well as familiarty of MS-Word style editing including Undo, spell check, cut and paste from Word, etc. When I first started using FrontPage 98, it had its own photo editor, but I preferred a light version of Adobe Photoshop LE that had been bundled in with Adobe PageMill 3.0. I had purchased the latter Website software while I was experimenting, however FrontPage came out more practical for me. Very recently I had cause to download GIMP for photo editing and am getting to the stage where I prefer it over Adobe Photoshop LE. I am not big on bells and whistles for Websites, however do want to learn more about publishing Videos on a Website but in the most economical way from a file size point of view. ...

Im using GIMP to design my banner and lots of stuff and I'm a newbie using this.

I thought that tables were frowned on for page layout. As a dyslexic I've worked hard to learn how use divs and css or layout and I feel that by using tables I would be taking a step backward.

What are the best tips for designing a site, that would be your portfolio? I am going to have a website that will display all of the websites I have designed, plus Graphics and photography. What do you think would be a good color scheme? Hey, couple friends and I are working on starting this forum with the name YourNet we have gone threw a couple names such as Social Payment Network but we settled on this more web 2.0 name.

The site is similar to Frihost in it is a forum based site and run by ads. Basically how it works; you get points for posting then at a certain point you can buy stuff with these points such as domain names or maybe just exchange them for real money sent to your Paypal.

So far this is just a first version template modified subsilver template. Tell what you think of it maybe give me suggestions on category's or forum's. I am at a loss for what I should do for the navigation.

I have set up a web site in my account provided by Frihost....Its up now and i have figured out some mistakes in the appearance of the site....That is wherever the © symbol is there it does not appears...Instead a ? mark appears....!!!!

It works well on the index page..ie,the © symbol does appears on the index page...but on other pages it does not...!!!

Alot of people do not know this. Imageready can also be used to edit a graphic into a web interface. You can edit the image into layer based slices and use those layer based slices as the buttons. You can even add a roll over state and make one image turn into another image on mouse over. Seriously i think Imageready has the most web potintial for highly graphic and rare looking webdesigns.

Okay guys, well I am completely new to working with making webpages. I can program in java decent enough, but I do not know any html or php. I want to make a website that has 3 pages in it. Me and my buddies are going to have a madden tournament, and I wish to make this website in order to help coordinate when the games should be played and all that good stuff.

Page 1:
Main page
include rules of the league.

Page 2:
Stats page.
will show the stats of players who their next game is and all the good crap.

I believe I can make both of these pages quite easy with microsoft frontpage and upload them.

the one I would like suggestions for is page 3.

the Chat page.

I want to make a simple page that they could all log in and post messages on the webpage itself.
I really don't know where to begin with this. I've never worked with cookies or sessions.

It doesnt have to look pretty. I just want the username to appear next to the message and have it added to the top of the page pushing the last 19 things said or so down one line. After that messages will get bumped off...

Does anyone have any ideas where I can learn the code that I will need to use?

OK, If you are looking on the first page you see that are a lot of cubes... pictured in different way.
I want to make a column with the menus: art; 3d - cad; dtp; photo; translation and when my mouse is pointing one, the cube to change... I want that cube just in one place... but to change appearance...
I am not sure if I was clear (that's happen when you are talking with a rookie )... I think the operation is called "rollover"? or not?

Design Tips : Looking for Feedback on Re-design

I finally worked up the gumption to take a hack at re-doing the style of my site, and some feedback would be muchly appreciated.

Overall, I think it's an improvement. The biggest changes you'll notice are the new header and a different color scheme. The old one seemed kind of dingy and outdated.

I'm still not entirely happy with it, though. The h2 tags don't seem quite right, and I'm thinking of changing around the layout of the content on the front page.

Any suggestions?
