SEO and Search Engines : Keywords And Title Tags

I've read from somewhere (but not sure) that the length of title tag should not more than 2 to 3 times of keywords in itself. For instance, if the keywords is "online money" then the total words of title tag should not more than six words.

Do you have any comment about that

Stats : 2 Replies

SEO and Search Engines : Does Google penalize sites that have back

Does Google penalize sites that have backlinks from paid directories? Does it matter if they are strictly paid directories or a combination of paid, free & link exchange directory?

Do you lose PR when using a drop down menu?

SEO and Search Engines : Do you lose PR when using a drop down menu?

I'd like to put a drop down menu on my home page that links to 30+ other sites (using as a quick jump to some band pages on myspace). Does anyone know if I'd lose PR by doing that or is it no different than if I were to have 30+ regular text links on that same page.

Thanks
Description meta tag: how many characters?

SEO and Search Engines : Description meta tag: how many characters?

Hi everyone I wanted to know what you guys/girls use as the maximum limit for the amount of characters in your Description tag of a page? Some meta tag analysis tools say 250 characters others say 200 characters while I just read in the seomoz.org SEO Web Developer Cheat Sheet that the maximum is 155 characters!

So what do you use as your limit cause I was reworking my Meta tags to improve them but I don't want to have to much text and then have a negative effect on my ranking. Btw as a second question, how bad is it to have extra characters in any of the tags description, keywords or title?

Thanks in advance!

Stats : 2 Replies

How to prepare a "robots.txt" to get crawled by Se

SEO and Search Engines : How to prepare a "robots.txt" to get crawled by Se

Search Bots, crawl each URL and the first thing they search on an URL root is the
robots.txt
file. So if we make our
robots.txt
file, we can change the Search Bots' behaviours, and we can tell them where to search and publish and where to not. Imagine we have privacy folders in our website, for example a folder or a file which includes e-mail addresses so we don't want them get published, then we can avoid them get seen by the Search robots by a few simple commands on the
robots.txt
file. Here we go.

We use the
/robots.txt
file to give instructions about our site to web robots; this is called
The Robots Exclusion Protocol.

Simply, the
robots.txt
is a very simple text file that is placed on our root directory. For example
www.frihost.com/robots.txt
. This file tells search engine and other robots which areas of our site they are allowed to visit and index.
The rules is, we can
ONLY
have one
robots.txt
on our site and
ONLY
in the root directory (where our home page is):

TRUE
:
www.frihost.com/robots.txt

(Works)

FALSE
:
www.frihost.com/crap/robots.txt

(Doesnot work)

All the big search engine spiders respect this file, but unfortunately most spambots (email collectors, harvesters) do not. If you want security on your site or if you got files or contents to hide, you have to actually put the files in a protected directory, you can't trust the
robots.txt
file only.

So what programs we need to create it. Just the good ol notebook or any text editor program is enough, all we need to do is to create a new text file, and name it!
Attention
, the name has to be "

robots.txt

", cannot be "
robot.txt
" or "
Robot.txt
" or "
robots.TXT
". ...

Stats : 13 Replies

SEO and Search Engines : URL in Title Tag

Just wanted a little feed back on something.
I've heard that putting the URL address of your web site in the title tag of your HTML document is a good practice -- that search engines can pick up your site easier.
Has anyone else here heard that or has some evidence that it's of no help?

Stats : 5 Replies

HTML vs PHP pages?

SEO and Search Engines : HTML vs PHP pages?

Hello

I am just finishing an SEO job for one of our main clients.

I instructed our designer to use basic html for all the important pages I have optimised for, the core and long tail phrases.

He has just shown me the finished site, all the pages are php even the ones I specifically asked to be HTML.

Q: does Google and the like index and rank php pages the same as HTML or will I have to get the designer to redo the main pages as basic HTML?

Everyone's thoughts, opinions, and experiences are much appreciated.

Best regards

SEO and Search Engines : Tools for tracking downloadable files

Hi friends.
I have a client whose site is a large one (round 200 pages). In this site there are many pages which contains downloadable files (which may be pdf, doc files etc.). What I want to know is to have the list of these downloadable files. For that I have to go to each page individually and search it manually. But it seems that there might be some software which does this jobs, thereby reducing the time frame. So if there is any software of that kind, please let me know. Waiting for the reply ASAP.

Stats : 1 Post

SEO and Search Engines : Algorithm Update

I've read from somewhere that Yahoo recently announced an update in their algorithm and warned people they may see fluctuations in rankings and Google also reportedly made over 45 tweaks to their algorithm last month. There is a lot of fluctuation going on in the search engine results right now.

Rankings are fluctuating!

Do you think this is a good time for me to re-optimize my sites now?

Stats : 4 Replies

SEO and Search Engines : Url not found in Google Webmaster Tools

I get the following error "Not found" in the overview. I click on details and it gives this:

http://www.whatsyourimpact.eu.org/blog/page5.html 404 (Not found) Jun 23, 2008

but it doesn't say in which page the bad link is in. when i check with other tools i don't find the error so i'm not sure how to get rid of this. it says last updated Jul 8, 2008 so i assume this means the prob is still there. Any help on this one would be great!

Better user Blackli than Google :: Save energy

SEO and Search Engines : Better user Blackli than Google :: Save energy

Its run by Google itself. The Cool and soothing color scheme. Displaying Black consume less energy than displaying White. Why not to use http://www.blackle.com/

www.Blackle.com says:

Quote:

How is Blackle saving energy?
Blackle was created by Heap Media to remind us all of the need to take small steps in our everyday lives to save energy. Blackle searches are powered by Google Custom Search.
Blackle saves energy because the screen is predominantly black. "Image displayed is primarily a function of the user's color settings and desktop graphics, as well as the color and size of open application windows; a given monitor requires more power to display a white (or light) screen than a black (or dark) screen." Roberson et al, 2002
In January 2007 a blog post titled Black Google Would Save 750 Megawatt-hours a Year proposed the theory that a black version of the Google search engine would save a fair bit of energy due to the popularity of the search engine. Since then there has been skepticism about the significance of the energy savings that can be achieved and the cost in terms of readability of black web pages.
We believe that there is value in the concept because even if the energy savings are small, they all add up. Secondly we feel that seeing Blackle every time we load our web browser reminds us that we need to keep taking small steps to save energy.
How can you help?
We encourage you to set Blackle as your home page (click to set). This way every time you load your Internet browser you will save a little bit of energy. Remember every bit counts! ...

...

Stats : 6 Replies

SEO and Search Engines : Sitemaps, Robots and Pageranking

I am just wondering what everyones thoughts are on the way sites are indexed on major search engines.

I myself have an xml sitemap generated by

http://www.xml-sitemaps.com/

and a robots.txt file with a link to the sitemap in it.

I also have a link directory.

I recently created a website without a directory, xml sitemap or robots.txt file and within 4 weeks it had a pr of 2 so are they really needed.

Stats : 17 Replies

SEO and Search Engines : How long does it normally take your sites to get indexed?

Hi,

The first website I made about 8 months ago took ages to get indexed by the search engines,

But lately, my websites have been getting indexed much quicker. For example, I registered DomainingGuide.Info on 19 May and spent about 24 hours setting it up. I signed up for Google webmaster tools on 21 May and found that all pages on my site had already been indexed by Google.

Is Google indexing sites faster now, or am I doing something better?

Have you experienced anything like this?

Stats : 9 Replies

Heavy volume of traffic to a site

SEO and Search Engines : Heavy volume of traffic to a site

There might be some tricks to drive huge traffic to your site, might be

But all I know is 'High ranking in search engines', flood of traffic would be possible. But getting high ranking in search engines needs most labour. Lot of efforts. There need to be good and interesting contents, the subject matter should be such that large number of people love to visit or some game or scheme type of things too might drive traffic. Once I saw a site where lots of children visit and keep on playing developing every day collecting powe and money to better fight for next day. Children were so concerned that whenever they got time jumped to that site. Some concept or scheme like that too might drive lot of traffic.

Do anyone have any good experience. Suggestions to get more traffic to the site?

Stats : 3 Replies

SEO and Search Engines : XML sitemap for secure sites...

I recently converted my site to the secure verions. ie. http://www.mysite.com to https://www.mysite.com. The site had XML sitemap for http version. But for the http version, I am not able to generate the XML sitemap, as the free XML generating software is showing error.
I have a US client and he wanted to put Adsense image ads on his site. I did the same. But now he is telling that he is getting Ads related to Asian/Indian market on these Adsense image ads, when he views from US. Is there any solution for this. Is there any option for geotargeting. Please help me out.

Stats : 2 Replies

How do you get a site to be picked up by a search engine?

SEO and Search Engines : How do you get a site to be picked up by a search engine?

I want to post an account of events that occurred when I got ripped off by a hight end audio company.
Because I don't live in the US I have virtually no legal recourse against the company that essentially took me for $3000. I would like to warn others with a website that outlines the events that occurred.
Is there any way to get to get my primitive site to come up when anyone searches the company (Tact Audio)? I'd appreciate any suggestions and don't mind doing any work necessary to mod my site:

Here is my web page: http://tactbuyerbeware.onlinewebshop.net/

Stats : 25 Replies

Has my ranking been 'hijacked'?

SEO and Search Engines : Has my ranking been 'hijacked'?

I have a website here in Australia promoting a radio program I do. The site started about 3 years ago, and was found by Google (what I would consider to be the most important search engine rating). It was on the 7th-8th page at that time for a search of the name of the site. Two weeks ago, it was in 3rd place.

There is an insurance company with a similar URL, but with a different suffix. They setup their domain name to redirect to our site, without our permisison. Initially I thought this was a good thing. Google re-crawled the site and had us at number 3, but with their domain name as the URL. Once this happened, they changed the redirect so the domain went to their actual site, so when people clicked on our listing, it went to their site. Google has since crawled again, and now our site has been removed completely from Google, and their site has taken the number 3 spot. Since then, there has been a dramatic fall in the number of hits to our site, and, it is one of the only marketing methods we have.

Do you think Google will recrawl our site and put us back in 3rd, or have we lost our position for a long time? ...

Stats : 2 Replies

The following will build a successful site in 1 years time via Google alone. It can be done faster if you are a real go getter, or everyones favorite: a self starter.

A) Prep Work:

Prep work and begin building content. Yep, long before the domain name is settled on, start putting together notes to build at least a 100 page site. That's just for openers. That's 100 pages of "real content", as opposed to link pages, resource pages, about/copyright/tos...etc fluff pages.

B) Domain name:
Problems with Dynamic URLs

SEO and Search Engines : Problems with Dynamic URLs

Hi friends,
I designed a new site for my client using Joomla. The site is 100% dynamic one. but the problem is the the URLs of my site is also showing like dynamic URLs. for eg. http://www.sitename.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=38&Itemid=55&pid=55.
This looks some thing odd. Will this create problems in getting idnexed in major search engines. Is there any option in Joomla to convert this dynamic URL into a SEO friendly URL. If so please explain and help me out ASAP.

Stats : 13 Replies

How to inform Seach Engines about your Sitemap

SEO and Search Engines : How to inform Seach Engines about your Sitemap

k guys, I made three tutorials, one was about how to make a sitemap.xml, one was about sitemapindex file and one was robots.txt All these tutorials to inform the SE and get crwaled ina shorter time and better.

Now we are gonna learn, after making our robots.txt and sitemap.xml how can we get searched by google? First of all, Google or other search engines, crwal your site, even if you don't do anything, but this may take some time, sometimes a month. Here we will try to invite the search bots to search our site in a shorter time, in a better way for more results from our site, and shorter time so it can crawl more.

There are few ways to inform search engines about your sitemap file. We will start from the easiest one.

1 -
I recommend you to insert a line in your "robots.txt" that where your sitemap.xml file is ( or if you gzipped it, where your sitemap.gz ,, or how da hell you named it). Just a simple line like this

sitemap: http://frihost.com/sitemap.xml

2 -
Second way is to send an
http
request. This one is easy too. What we gonna do is step by step, go to your web browser's address bar, write the search engine's URL first, then "
/ping?sitemap=http://www.frihost.com/sitemap.xml
" , tho we need to encode this in UTF-8, so it will look like this "
/ping?sitemap=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.frihost.com%2Fsitemap.xml
"
Here is an example, let's say we want to send Google Bot a request and we want to inform it about our sitemap, we must type this into the web browser address bar => "
http://www.google.com/ping?sitemap=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.frihost.com%2Fsitemap.xml
"
for yahoo for example, we have to type
http://search.yahoo.com
, or for ask we have to write the true search URL. Be careful. ...

Stats : 6 Replies

SEO advanced tool

SEO and Search Engines : SEO advanced tool

Hi everyone, I've developed a SEO tool recently, so if you could tell me your opinion on it it would be great!
http://urbanoalvarez.es/crawler/test.php

What it does is it tells you your website position in major search engines for your main keywords/search queries.

At the moment of writing it works for google, yahoo and ask, but I'm now adding more search engines to the list

Please tell me any feedback (good, bad, horrible...)

Stats : 5 Replies
