Which image host do you use?

Jamatu
As the title says which image host do you use? I currently use www.imageshack.us Why? The reason I use it is because I can upload as many pictures as I like as often as I like and with a 1024kb image size you can't go wrong. Also you don't have to sign up. You just upload the picture and use the link. The images won't get delete unless that haven't been accessed for a year if I remember correctly.

So which do you use and why?
Dark Ares
I used to use my web space, but now i don't have it anymore so i'm using the same as you.
RosenCruz
I use www.geekimages.com ..no sign up no membership..good service
Jamatu
That's the first i've heard of that, looks pretty nice! Where did you hear about it?

On another note at the bottom of the page it says this

The text 'CeleronDude' is a link and it has naked women on it! haha just goes to show the theory of your always 3 clicks away from a porn site is true!

Seriously though...enough of these image host threads. Who gives a shit, we have 250 megs and 10 gigs of bandwidth here. Plus, everybody knows of the big ones like imageshack, and for anything else just use google. There have been so many thread like this...on every forum on the internet...

Please note that Frihost is not a charity. Bandwidth and space are expensive. Do not misuse them. If you installed some software that you no longer use, delete it. Do not make unnecessary back-ups, generating extra traffic. Use a decent image host to host images you want to use in forums instead of using Frihost for these kind of things.

I'm going to be creating a forum based website. I wanted to find out the different types of image hosting websites first. Razz Just because we have the bandwidth available doesn't mean we should take advantage. Anyways what happens if someone only wants to browse this forum? It would be a hopeful post?

Okay, lets play nicely now Smile

We all have an opinion on this and each one will think his opinion is correct. So lets just leave it at that. We do not want to hijack the thread and change it into a flamewar.

Let's rather just post useful information about Image Hosts.

Have a nice day !

Pretty much the only image I display on forums is an avatar, which is only like 5 kb so it shouldn't matter. I like having images somewhere safe, rather than some free public image host that could delete or shutdown any moment. If you're really looking for a solid host though, I'd suggest http://pichost.hexxxen.net/

You can host not only pictures, but also vids less than 12 megs and wav files.
nolit
I use some space off my free host to store some images I use in "other" sites. But I also recommended photobucket to members of a forum hosted on a freeserver that do not allow file uploads.
Dragonfly
I use imagehost.us for all image host so that it remains there for a long time... some free webhosting comes and go but imageshack.us atleast isn't going and coming so frequently...
Scotty2dope
i use ripway.com

If you live in france ask an account to free.fr ... 1Gb storage ftp and php all without ads and FREE .
alkady
I use photo bucket but I used to use Wikipedia (No I'm just kidding) The reason? Well its the first service provider I fell upon when I wanted to upload images on the net, I've been using it for over 1 year now but I may consider changing that.
Soulfire
I use photobucket, you do have to sign up but it's well worth it.
PureSimpleNatural
Hummm well...

I guess I've been mildly ignorant to what image host sites were available.
I currently use VillagePhotos, and I've noticed not one person has mentioned it... makes me wonder if there's much better options out there. Should check out these ones that have been posted.

(Not inducing a "VillagePhotos sucks because..." hi-jack here... I'm just curious now and will do my own research)
amusic
I use imageshack.us . A reliable and fast image hosting site. Somemore it doesn't need to register and allow direct linking.

I've been uploading my stuff to http://www.imagehost.org/ - they've closed down, but since I have a cookie in my computer from that site, I've been able to keep uploading stuff to it since I'm a "returning member". If I'm on a computer where I can't use ImageHost.org, I use http://www.imageshack.us/ Very Happy.

I Use Burn-Blue.com for all sorts, it's really fast, reliable and really easy to use. The GUI is really simple to use and they're always adding new features.

mukesh
Photobucket site perfect for me.
selim06
I was a fanatic imageshack.us user before but recently I prefer photobucket because of password protected albums and video hosting.
soljarag
i use image shack.... they have a toolbar that makes it super easy to upload photos... you can also right click images in windows, and select "upload to imageshack" its a heck of alot faster then opening a ftp client, uploading the file.. then figure out the url for the photo you just uplooaded
Cliffer
but many images hosts can't be visited in china. that's too bad.
jigoku05
Photobucket

I'm using this for more than 6 years now.
ProfessorY91
This is definitely a reincarnated zombie thread. Which happens to belong in one of the random frihost computer forums... but hey, what do I know?

I don't use image hosting websites. Picasa does what I need it to do, in terms of making images available online for viewing pleasure. Frihost allows me to upload and hotlink any images that I need for webdesign. Since I don't use a ton of bandwidth anyways, that's my solution.
saratdear
I used to use Imageshack, but as ProfessorY91 said, nowadays I upload it to my Frihost account if it is something needed for my webdesigning projects.

EDIT: 1000 posts!
Asap170
I use imageshack and sometimes my own server when I am in the mood to forward my ports :/
oozy
Been using the image shack batch upload application for a few years.

When I started off, I used to use my free Website space, but since then have become a little wiser and am using Imageshack. When I am posting in Frihost however, I usually use my Website space.
mtorregiani
I use Imageshack.us, but only because it's the first website I think when I need to upload a picture... I've tried better image hosts than imageshack (like xs.to) but most of them aren't online anymore...

PS: There are good suggestions in this topic, such as http://www.burn-blue.com/
Really cool site!
Flakky
I use http://www.funkyimg.com/
It's really great when uploading 10 images.
It has a 2 mb limit though but hotlinking is allowed for certain websites.

I used to use PhotoBucket for all my images.

However that was quite a while ago (2005 or 2006). I now use my own website space.

But if I need to quickly upload an image to show someone something that I won't need or something like that, I use imageshack.us and it's quick and requires no registration.

Imgur FAQ wrote:
Is there a maximum file size I can upload?
The maximum non-animated file size you can upload is 10MB. However, if the image is over 1MB then it will automatically be compressed or resized to 1MB, for better viewing on the net. The maximum animated file size (both GIF and PNG) is 2MB.

Not sure where you got 5MB from.

I use http://www.upimagehosting.com
New one but good one.

When I need to share an image for example on a forum, an image that can be made totally public and for which I don't even mind if someday lost control of it, I use:

http://imageshack.us/

a free image host service that has been around for lots of years now.
Vanilla
I've been using Photobucket to dump my pixels since 2005 I think (I tend to calculate the amount of time based on the login I use, which is a variation of Vanilla Very Happy). Right now I'm using my hosting here to upload most of my blog images too.
rjraaz
I am very much fan of photobucket. This just not able us to host our photos but make it possible to edit our photo as well with ease .
Josso
These days for non account based I use imgur. Permanent storage I would prefer something like flickr or photobucket however.

It depends where I want to show the photo, really.

If I plan on showing it to a few people, intended to be viewed now, and the possibility that I will need to edit the image further and show again, then I use dropbox.

If I plan on sharing it on social networks, then I upload it to Facebook, G+, and Friendfeed.

If I plan on sharing it on a forum, chances are I have already uploaded it somewhere else already, so if the forum doesn't allow attachments, I use wherever it is already uploaded. But if it wasn't already uploaded, I use my web space (not frihost, though).

On that note, I'd like to say something to anyone that owns a forum:

If you care about your forum and plan on it being around long term, and you want your forum to be useful long term, consider allowing members to attach images to their posts by uploading them to your forum.

When people have to find places outside your forum to upload images, your forum becomes dependent on a variety of 3rd party services, for which you have no control. If any of those services go away, they leave you with a bunch of broken images on your pages. Not very good for your forum in the long term.

On the other hand, allowing image uploads means the image will be there for as long as your forum is there and no matter how old the post, it can continue to be useful, without broken images.
amagard
Imageshack seems to be the winner in this forum thread.
I use flickr for my own photos. I have a pro membership and so far this is the only internet service I am really paying for. Nevertheless, a free account will do as well, with a few limitations like upload bandwidth per month or only showing the 200 most recent photos in a stream ( even you can store more than that ).
I simply love flickr - the way photos can be organized ( using tags, sets or collections ), features like geo-tagging and commenting, also all the tools available for uploading photos, the embedded photo editing capability and finally a screen saver allowing me to randomly pull photos out of my photo stream or any of my photo sets or from my collection of favorites to be shown on my computer screen.

I also use Picasa Web for other photos and images I need as illustrations for blog or forum postings.

Imageshack really is an old pioneer in this area but imgur simply did amazing and simple job and outscored them all. n my opinion
ZeytinGrafik
imgur is good. although nowadays "avast" gives out a warning about a file called "stipple.js" whenever i open the site. Is it my machine? the antivirus? or the site itself? i do not know for sure but i'm planning to use another hosterjust because of this.

I use Avira at work and Ad-Aware antivirus at home. Both has not detected anything. May be a false positive. Rolling Eyes

Totally agree imageshack started messing me about a couple of years back with the whole hotlinking thing and banning domains left right and centre for traffic violations. Imgur is fantastic how long it will last who knows though. To be fair all my imageshack images from like 10 years ago or whatever are still up.
darthrevan
I usually use imageshack, but sometimes I do use others like tinypic and such. Sometimes I do keep them on my site, though in general I just use a image hosting service. It is probably best to register on one of them so you can easily find your images and are more likely to stay on the service instead of being deleted.
RosenCruz
Tinypic really is weird. They delete the images and somehow replace the same URL with another image. Your photo with friends at work may turn into a bombshell nude Blondie. Be careful using TinyPic Wink

Sounds exciting! Laughing

I prefer to upload my images to my Frihost Website. Now and then I try an image host, just for the fun of it, and then find myself forgetting the last one I used. Like now! I can remember my username and password, but not the name of the image host. Darn! Must be the jet lag doing it.
RosenCruz
Yeah, on tinypic, your image might turn into something else. cause when they delete your pic for high BW usage or other reasons, they give the same url to some other recently uploaded image. and the fun begins Wink
