editing softwares?

cyberbuddy
i just wanted to know which is the best movie editing software i have heard to sony vegas is that good ?
nanunath
Sony Vegas is not user friendly...as far as I think.Try " CYBERLINK POWERDVD "..i think its the best !
Psycho_X52
Hmm...I think you'll never know the answer, unless you work at a professional film studio (like Warner Bros, Columbia, etc). There is something more powerful than Sony Vegas (as I seen from a few videos; I never used Sony Vegas myself) called After Effects from Adobe. I cannot say it's better than Sony Vegas. I my opinion the best is Movie Maker because it is very easy to use. The editing power - user friendly ratio is pretty high. I don't thing someone could use After Effects properly without any tutorials.

After Effects is for really advanced work. It's for fine tuning scenes with technical editing. You need something like Premiere along with it for making your final compositions.

adobe premiere is a good one and yeah try to learn using after effects too.... its worth it if u r gonna go for a lot of editing work.
Whong
Yes adobe is very good. I haven't ever tried Sony Vegas but it must be pretty good too. Probably the best thing is to download demo versions of both and see which one suits you better. Wink

If you really wanted to get into it, then definitely go with Adobe. Get After Affects and Premiere Pro if you can afford it.

But if it's just like a one time deal, you would probably be better off going with a cheaper one, or even a free one if you can find one. But if you want to do some amazing stuff, get Adobe. However After Affects are really for advanced things.

Hope this helps.

These questions come up every so often. Honestly there is NO 'best' editing software. There is just editing software. It depends on how good YOU are at using it. Of course there are different 'levels' of editing software, some of the more advanced ones can do things the cheap ones can't. So I'll give you the different 'levels' of editing software.

Free. These usually come preinstalled on your computer. Windows Movie Maker and iMovie. They
are just fine for people wanting to have fun making home videos and hobbyists. They lack some of
the advanced features of the higher end software, but are suprisingly powerful.

Lower end. Adobe Premiere Elements.... Apple Final Cut Express These are 'lite' versions of Adobe
Premiere Pro and Apple Final Cut Pro. These are great bang for the buck and 3/4 as good as the pro
versions for a lot less money.

High end. Adobe Premier Pro, Sony Vegas, Apple Final Cut Pro, Avid, Media 100.......these are the
one's I am most familiar with. They are used by people editing video for money....TV commercials,
movies, documentaries and such. They have a lot of features that a casual user would not need,
and a price tag to go along with it. That being said, they are actually kind of affordable considering
what you get for the price......think $1000-$1500.

Adobe After Effects which was mentioned above, is NOT a NLE (non linear editor). It is effects
and compositing software. Other effects and compositing software is Apple's Motion and Shake.
When you want to create certain 'effects' you bring your video from one of the non linear editors into
this type of software and create what you need. You can do some very basic video editing in After
Effects, but then again you can do some basic compositing and effects in any of the editing programs
as well, so it depends what you are trying to do. Also After Effects and the others are not very
good for editing because you can't hear the audio that goes with the video as you play the video, you
have to do a RAM preview.....a big pain when you are trying to edit scenes together.

Anyways, hope that helps.

Get to know a cheap or free one inside out first, if this is your first time, before you decide to invest in expensive software from Adobe and the like. Who knows, you might change your mind or you might stick with it.

Good luck, cheers

Yes, that's a good piece of advice! Buy an expensive software only when you are absolutely sure that it suits you well. I e.g. bought Cinema 4D after using a demo version of it for nearly 4˝ years. I don't mean that you've got to use it for such a long time before buying but that you are sure the software you are buying is the right one for you. Wink

sumproz
i dunno about you but i just prefer windows movie maker, it's free, its easy and in the end u end up with some god stuff.
weableandbob
If you want free stuff, windows movie maker and wax are good, while Adobe After Effects and Sony Vegas are both great professional programs, although they cost a fair amount and take a while to get used to.
Alaskacameradude
I just saw that Final Cut Pro has over 50% of the professional video editing market....
significant only because Macs are in such a minority in general use. I had an argument
with a friend who uses PC's. He told me not to buy a Mac because there is no software for
them and they only have 5% market share. I told him it was much higher in the video editing
market, which is what I was getting a computer for. He told me I was wrong, and that Macs
video editing share was only 5%. I was right and he was wrong....hahahaha.
