No german language section?

fabian-k
Hi,

I've seen here are some germans, but there is no german language forum yet.

Why? Wink

Is it possible to create one?

Best regards,
fabian

>>Why?

Probably because there are way more polish and french guys in here, than germans. So it seems not tu be urgent to have a german board.

>>Is it possible to create one?

No, it's not. Frihost's administration doesn't want more language forums and any request concerning that is useless (I didn't say, they don't care about their users^^).

I'm getting to learn German as well. I thought there would be a German forum and just noticed the fact. I just wonder how many people speak German here.

The difficulty is finding reliable, trustable language moderators for those forums.
A couple of the language forums are already suffering greatly because they don't get any moderation.
The first step to getting a new language section would have to be identifying a few good language moderators picked out for it.

Personally, I think they are too conservative in deciding who can be trusted to do it, but that's not my decision to make.
(Unfortunately, convincing them that someone is trustworthy enough to be a moderator is very difficult, and additionally, they like language mods to speak both English and that language fluently... So it is very difficult to find a new language moderator.)

Wow. I've been gone a long time. 2 years 3 years? Hm...
Gotta check if there's a german forum by now, if not I think it's time to create one. Although I enjoy the english language very much.
Should the need arise I can send essays in german and english to the admin(s) Wink

Well, it seems (as written above) that German isn't so popular. However, I can speak your language a bit Smile

When reading this my spontaeous reaction was: Oh no!

I don't like the idea of having sub-forums for German and other languages too much. What I especially enjoy about this forum is that there are people from all over the world coming together to exchange and discuss ideas. I am afraid that having sub-forums would prevent that free exchange of ideas simply because there would be a language barrier.

On second thought, I see the point that this could be a good opportunity to learn a different language by getting in contact with native speakers. So yes, maybe there is a point to have a German forum. Not sure whether there is a need to have strong moderation for that. I doubt people will start slitting each other's throats immediately if there isn't.
TomS
Back once again, lol.

I agree. It seems that there are many topics in the language forums that are similar to the general topics, just in a different language.
However I love the idea of conversing in different languages and learning and teaching. And dedicated forums seem a better choice for this purpose than one forum for all the different languages and translations requests.
