| Unhappy lawyers walk out of trial
Fri, 10/17/2008 10:20 AM | City JAKARTA: The defense team representing Matsuni, the leader of Islam Defender Troop (LPI), walked out of Matsuni's trial twice at the Central Jakarta District Court on Thursday, tempointeraktif.com reported. The lawyers left the room when prosecutors played a video recording that showed members of the National Alliance for the Freedom of Faith and Religion (AKKBB) being attacked allegedly by LPI adherents at the National Monument (Monas) Park in June. AKKBB was holding a rally promoting religious tolerance. One of the lawyers, Sugito Padmoprawiro, insisted the video recording was not valid evidence and prosecutors should bring in the person who had videotaped it instead. The lawyers had walked out earlier the same day when police officer First Brig. Mujiono, stationed in the park at that time, confirmed the scenes shown in the recording did occur. Presiding judge Andi Makasau warned the lawyers about their attitude, but was ignored. -- JP |
No contempt of court in this country.
Can you imagine this happening in your country? Would the lawyers get away with this?
