The T-Mobile G1 aka the Google Phone aka GPhone!

ganesh
Looks like the iPhone has got some serious competition at last!

Apparently, the T-Mobile people have managed to snag 1.5 million pre-orders!

The T-Mobile G1 phone features all the fancy stuff in the iPhone and couples it with a open-source Android operating system, as well as an open Android apps marketplace! What a way to go one-up over Apple!!

What do fellow Frihosters think about this phone? Do you think it will be a worthy competitor to the iPhone?

It sounds like something that can compete with Apple. I read about a BlackBerry device that is supposed to compete with the iPhone as well. I forget whether it has been released. The BlackBerry device is sensitive to the amount of pressure applied. The touchscreen has spring or something that allow it to move based on the pressure applied. I would like to get my hands on this one.

Since the G1 is open-source, it is not as secure as the iPhone, which is a closed-system, and has very strict standards for the AppStore, (unless you jailbreak it, which, being said, is a stupid decision for security-minded individuals, though, i did jailbreak mine, and it is actually performing with less bugs than my brother's OR my sister's, one being the First Generation, and the other being the new 3G iPhone)

For personal use though, the G1 could, in fact, rival the iPhone, as well as the Blackberry Storm, which I'm pretty sure is the phone mentioned above, and can be found here.

The Storm looks like a pretty amazing phone, though I'm not sure about the pressure-sensitivity.

Conclusion: Business users will probably end up going with the iPhone, or even the Storm.
But for Personal use, the G1 could become a pretty impressive phone.
