How to unscrew triwing screws w/o a triwing screwdriver

I want to open up my old gamecube controllers and clean them from the inside, but I don't have any triwing screwdrivers(yet). I've heard almost everywhere that you can do it with a flathead or philips screwdriver, but I haven't had any luck with those. Does anyone know exactly how to do it with either of those?

I know that there is a special tool you can use that will turn any shape screw or bolt (because it assumes the shape of whatever you press it on to), but those screws were intentionally designed to defeat ordinary screwdrivers, so you'll either have to get one of the things I mentioned or a screwdriver specifically made for that screw.

If you still want to use a flathead, try using a very small one that will fill up just one of the slots, and the middle area.

ya, i got it to work with a 2mm flathead, although it slightly damaged the very tip of it

Once its out, see if you can replace the screws with normal ones, to make it easy next time.
