Thought it would be fitting for this sub-forum to have it's own list of software/online sites relating to climatology, geology etc.

For starters...

- Satellite image viewing/map programs -

http://earth.google.com/ Google earth

http://maps.google.com/ Google maps

http://www.mapquest.com/ Map quest

http://worldwind.arc.nasa.gov/ World wind

http://terraserver.microsoft.com/ Terra server

But, if you're interested in the sky seen from Earth, try Stellarium (www.stellarium.org).

Thanks for the heads up on the www.stellarium.org site. This has interested me since I was a little tacker and this software looks like it will be useful for me to get my kids interested in looking at the night sky.

Last year I stumbled upon a data set of antarctic with some decent documentation about the file format used. So, I ended up in producing a color mapped image of Antarctic below the ice (see my avatar).

The researcher to provide this information, Laurence Padman, has an extensive library of information published here - have a look!
