Whats your opinion with GMAIL, i've heard there are ways someone could get private information from your account?

....but other than that gmail is secure and works like a charm...! If you use https and not http is will be more secure. There is a setting "browser connection", set it to "Always use https". Make sure that it's using https in the url bar.

There is a new-ish feature where you can remotely log yourself out of your account if you accidentally logged in from another location. That is if you remember to check!

The amount of times I've been to somewhere like an Apple Store and tried to log into my GMail account, and it comes up with someone elses is crazy!! I normally use their email to send themselves an email reminding them to log out properly in the future.

I don't have problems with security since I don't really have "too-private" info in my hands.
But since it's Gmail, it must be secure since it's made from one of the best companies in the web.

I've been using gmail for years, and I don't think google have lost my private informations to other parts. The only problem is there's too many spams, although Gmail could filter most of them.
yes it it very reliable but it think they need to release a new version for as copy some feature that the new yahoo mail or hotmail has. 1 more problem I receive more spam than my emails.
Thanks for that little tip ftv_flung, wasn't aware of that. I think that Google is pretty secure, so I trust it very much.

I love gmail, I remember the invite codes (remember those?) I practically had to beg someone on some forum for an invite code. Ever since I have loved gmail. Grandcentral is awesome too (a free voicemail like system from Google that routes to your home phone: www.grandcentral.com).

The security in GMAIL is fine.
As long as you do the right stuff, like have good passwords (not dictionary words, letters and numbers etc), good questions (not default ones) and you log out after using on a public machine.
So any security vulnerabilities are your own. Educate yourself.
Well, I think that google is deceptive, just like myspace, facebook almost all the social networking sites. Google is a monopoly, just like microsux. The lead person of Google retired from the NSA! That right there is very suspicious.

I think gmail is very strong for security. Its can scan spam and phishing site and confirm the user.
I do not trust Gmail. I do not know every single one of the people working for google, so; no, I do not trust them. I DO trust them more that other "small" mail-hosting companies, though. But I would not transfer top secret mails through them (or any other mail-hosting companies either).
Gmail DO filter some spam-mail. But I also get spam-mail on an unused gmail-account that I have never used, or shared with anyone. So the way I think of it; The spam comes (and get filtered) because its a gmail account.

I think you people are over-reacting, why would they collect any personal information on us using Gmail, its against the law... I like gmail and the huge storage space and a lot of usefull functions and stuff...
I've used gmail for years and years and I've never had any problems with it. I would suggest it to anyone who emails a lot. It's really nice. It practically has unlimited space... plus, you can search for your mail with their search box!
Gmail has some security system which we can monitor as a user. It displays your activity, your last login time and IP address. If you find anything suspicious just change password.

I think Gmail is quite safe to use, however wonder how invasive it is with our accounts with its many bots and what it does with all the materials it collects from us. How do we really know? Although I can imagine also that since it is such a high-profile professional company that security would be very high on its list of priorities.
I've used Gmail for almost 3 years, and haven't met any secure problems, and I think the intergrated envirnment of Google services always make surffering the internet a happy experience.
I use gmail mail account, I just love it. It has best in the world smap filter, has https protocole and is easily reachable if you have set google.com as a home page

Gmail is secure enough and won't do anything wrong unless you do it yourself. Gmail is encrypted so I doubt most hackers will be able to get in.
i use gmail for years but i dont trust it. i dont trust anything on internet. it is imaginary :S
I have been using Gmail for awhile and never found any secure problem with it. I think Gmail is one of secured email services on the net. 
I think it is safe. But with google you never know. They also store information you search on their search engine for marketing and improving their service.
What they do is scan your emails you get for words and then give you advertising about it. If you always get email from website hosting or something, then there is a good chance that you'll get ads about hosting companies. This makes me a little bit concerned =(

ya its very good for attachement very fast in receving and sending mails..
By the way. For the people that wanna start using Gmail.
In your settings, you can arrange by giving the POP Servers, that you can send an recieve emails from your old account in your gmail.
It has also a VERY large capacity of currently 7300MB. (and increasing)

Biggest advantage I gain from Gmail is centralized my email addresses..
Now I'm collection emails from 3 addresses and have another 3 accounting doing forwarding to me automatically..
Of cause, email client software can do that, but I always perfer web-based email client.

been using it since it was 'by invitation only'...loved it...the best in all free emails...
Hah, gmail back in the days of invites - I remember that. Before all the accounts were @googlemail.com

Well, I certainly believe that GMail is more secure than Hotmail.
But then, that is merely my opinion. If there are any evidence that suggests the opposite, I would gladly take a look.

Gmail is definitely safe as long as you keep your privates where they belong. Private information that is . Other than that you are good to go and i reckon that Gmail is one of the best and fastest email services there is.

I've had more problems with Yahoo and MSN than with GMail (I still use Yahoo and MSN as well, just because there's benefits to each), although I still don't keep anything personal on any email account I have.
