Clean ur flash drive from common virus....

One of the ways by which a virus can infect your PC is through USB/Pen drives. Common viruses such as ’Ravmon’ , ‘New Folder.exe’, ‘Orkut is banned’ etc are spreading through USB drives. Most anti virus programs are unable to detect them and even if they do, in most cases they are unable to delete the file, only quarantine it. Here are the things which you can do if you want to remove such viruses from your USB drives

Whenever you plug a USB drive in your system, a window will appear similar to the one shown below

Don’t click on Ok , just choose ‘Cancel’. Open the Command Prompt by typing ‘cmd‘ in the run box. In the command prompt type the drive letter: and press enter . Now type dir /w/a and press enter.
This will display a list of the files in the pen drive. Check whether the following files are there or not
New Folder.exe
or any other exe file which may be suspicious.
If any of the above files are there, then probably the USB drive is infected. In command prompt type attrib -r -a -s -h *.* and press enter. This will remove the Read Only, Archive, System and hidden file attribute from all the files. Now just delete the files using the command del filename. example del Ravmon.exe. Delete all the files that are suspicious. To be on a safer side, just scan the USB drive with an anti virus program to check whether it is free of virus or not. Now remove the drive and plug it again. In most of the cases, the real culprit turns out to be the “Autorun.inf” file which mostly gets executed when someone clicks Ok in the dialog window which appears above. Thus the infections can spread
Security Tip
Disable the Autoplay feature of USB drives. If you disable the Autoplay feature of USB drives, then there are lesser chances of the virus spreading. A tool which can perform such a function is Tweak UI. Download it from here install it.

Run the program. Now you can disable the Autoplay feature of the removable drives as shown above. By following the above steps, you can keep your USB drives clean. If there are any other methods which you use, then share it with me through comments.
Easier to just format the drive, although you'll want to backup your documents first or else you'll lose them. Never tried this method, but it would probably work, thank you for the tutorial.
add VirusRemoval.vbs to the above list, had a lot of trouble with that one...
Yah I like that method. I always do that in order to keep my PC clean. Its more effective if you know the name of the Virus. But If you dont have much knowledge than go for an antivirus and scan your flash drive before you copy your data or even opening the drive.
Better use Flash Disinfector and Combo Fix.
thank you
disable all the autorun files from pendrives/removable disk etc etc and never double click them

use the address bar menu on the upper part of the screen and select/choose which drive you wanna go to. this way the system hidden autorun file is not activated. avoid all troubles.

the tutorial is nice bt too lengthy
Hi !
I just posed a whole new topic ..similar to this one ...and then found this topic..If I knew it earlier I would have posted it here...however ther r 2 more ways to trace the worms spreading thru USB..Plz go thru it...may be it'll help anybody of u if u dont know it!
Here's a technique to prevent viruses from pen drive in win32. This only works if your computer is virus free.

First of all, in folder options, uncheck 'Hide System files" and "Hide extension for known file types" and select "Show hidden files and folders". Then goto c:\.There you should see some new folders like "System volume information" and "Recycler". Then when you insert the pen drive of any other friends, don't open directly by clicking in the icon but first cancel the autorun and goto run and input the drive of the pendrive. If the pen drive is infected, you should see a blurred icon of the executable. That means that the file is a syatem file. Virus file are system files. Delete it and delete the autorun.inf file. If there are folders with .exe extention delete them also. Then the pen drive is virus free
why not just get a much more suitable anti virus? Razz
