Well, I haven't been using it long, but I think this is going to be really helpful to me and maybe others. Basically, it is turning Thunderbird into a Gmail client. This doesn't have to be just used with a Gmail account either, it's just what I'm using and about using Gmail better. And yes, I'm probably behind the times a bit; been loyal to POP I guess 
Anywho, IMAP seems to be better than POP for two reasons. First, POP data flows in one direction, client pulls down from server, and IMAP talks more with the server. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IMAP I also think IMAP is better (at least for me) because it should mean less duplicate emails for me.
