Optimize descriptions for forums in phpBB

Hi,

I found that pages from my forum are indexed in google. But the problem is that the descriptions are fetched from the pages like:

Topics, Author, Replies, Views, Last post. No new posts, Find average of some numbers in Qbasic. moonLord. 0. 3. Tue Sep 09, 2008 7:49 am ...

for a forum 'Programming and IDE'

I tried to find it in administrative panel but could not. Is there any way out that we can set descriptions for categories and forums?

Yes, this is possible with Meta Tags. I am not sure if this will work fully on PHPBB3, but it works fine with PHPBB2 - tested on private server.

When you get to the part where they start asking you to change template files, go into your current template that you want everybody to use. So if you use a theme called "VistaTheme" you edit the files in the "VistaTheme" folder.

Also, these Meta Tags won't take effect immediately, it will take a bit of time for the Google Bot to crawl to your page again. Good luck.

I think you can also edit the template files and use the template variables to put the title of the topic/forum in the meta tags. This would be better than the same meta tags all over the website.

That's true, although it may be a little hard for the new users. I know when I started coding phpBB I had no idea which file was which. Also the plugin I posted does not add descriptions for each topic, just for the site in general.

Yes I found the overall-header.htm file containing header portion. but if I modify this file it will apply to all category and forums. This will appear not relative so some forums.
