Recently it seemed to many people using the Internet that Google had been
hacked, and that there was a DNS error. The Google homepage was
redirecting to SoGoSearch.com.

That's pretty insane, only thing i have to say is, SOGO should have had better graphics on there front page and maybe some people would have actually started using there search.
google is cool but it sucks it was hacked(even for a short time)
SOGO??? i never even heard of that search engine,maybe i should vist that search engine one day 
anyways... its good the tech guys got the orginal google back in a short time,hacks on popular search engines aren't all that common now a days

anyways.. I must've missed this. What if you used the search in firefox or a toolbar. Would it bring up the results in google, sogosearch or just the homepage of sogosearch??

it would most probably have brought up a 404.
sogosearch forms its search query differently from google.
the google search bar in browsers sends one directly to h**p://www.google.com/search?q=<encoded-query-string-here>
sogo uses h**p://www.sogosearch.com/?mysearch=<encoded-query-string-here>
reason enough for a 404.
It is a shame that a thred like this had to be started.
I mean, let's be honest here.
If Google got hacked hardcore like this suggests, then we would be hearing about it on International news because they are a Fortune 500 company.
I bet it was hacked.
Google doesn't want people to go to Yahoo! even though so many Yahoo! accounts are being "owned" by hackers/crackers.
Google was NOT hacked. Instead, they had a DNS error. When the browsers tried to resolve that page, they couldn't and instead returned google.com.net which is the page for sogo's search (since been taken down)

Its fascinating to hear google was hacked anyway, I loved it. Hackers can break into any tight secure server. Thanks to hackers.
Apparently it wasn't hacked - but it would be cool if someone managed to get past their defences!
Anything is possible with hackers these days. I am surprised it hasn't happened sooner.

This happened before.. Redirect to SoGoSearch.. Recently, there's news about Google waging war wif Microsoft. Wonder whether is this started by Microsoft?
