Freeware for Routing in XP

shenyl
Is there any free software that I can use to perform routing in an XP with multiple NIC?

I need this to experiment and teaches on Routing, but the school is unable to afford NetSim or Opnet.

Would appreciate any help in this.

If Visualisation of router is possible it would be even better.

With regards.

You could try gns3 - which allows you to emulate cisco IOS's onto a machine.

If you want to route in windows XP,

In the Run command type Regedit.exe and press Enter.

In the registry navigate to

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters

Select the "IPEnableRouter" entry (by default the value is 0) and change it's value to 1.

Close Regedit.

Reboot.

Thanks for this very helpful and useful note on GNS3.

I have visited the GNS site, download the software and also the tutorial.

Will try out the software in the next day or so.

Looks very promising, and it include even the CISCO PIX firewall.

Really the Open Community is making life so easy for us, but very demanding for people in NetSim, OpNet, etc.

Thank you again.
