In an online game I plan to do I want to randomly generate names from different countries. It looks like the Chinese names are a bit different from others. If the name is written with Chinese characters (eg. 圣雄甘地) it looks like it's only one name with no first and last name or is there no space between the Chinese signs at all?

What are the parts of a Chinese name? is there a first name and a last name or family name,personal name or something else?

It depends what kind of names you're referring to. For example, many names are translated from their English pronunciation. Like what you said "圣雄甘地" is Chinese for Mahatma Gandhi. 圣雄 literary means "Hero" and 甘地 is read as "Gan Di" (or Gandhi).

The normal Chinese name usually consists of 3 characters. For example "周杰伦" - 周 is the surname, and 杰伦 is the given name. Although it is common for people from mainland China to have only 2 character names - 1 for surname, 1 for given name.

There are actually more than thousands of surnames (or clan names) now still in use in China. Generally, the surname for Chinese consists of one single character although two-character surname (kinda distinctive ancient origin) is not that uncommon. You may find a very comprehensive explanation following this link. By the way, ancient Chinese, especially intellectuals, also preferred various titles. They were like nicknames representing some typical aspects of that person. Very Happy
