My in-laws have Win 2000, and are looking for some reasonable free anti-virus.
I tried AVG, which I'm happy with for my Win XP, but it seems to need XP or some other special stuff -- it says it will but I haven't been successful in making it work on Win 2000.
Any other good free anti-virus software that does work on an old, wimpy, but OK for web working Win 2000 system.
Avira AntiVir is definitely the free best antivirus, try it out. You may also try Avast, it's also very good antivirus.

Hm, I never had any problem running AVG free on 2000... That was version 7.x though.
Doesn't seem any with actual real experience this year with Win 2000 -- so I'll try some of the ones advised.
Thanks.
Great couple of Dem - Rep - Socialism lines.
Try Avast! 4.8 Home Edition
Its completely free and a very efficient antivirus. There is no tension of updating the database as well since it updates itself once you get connected to the internet
A NEW computer! With Windows Vista (yechh), home edition, AVG seems to be OK on it.
Thanks for helpful advice.
There was also a problem with Skype & Gmail and the ISP connection ... so anti-virus wasn't decisive.
