Joomla slow-ness

psycosquirrel
I installed Joomla on my ftp site, and got everything up and running. It seems quite sluggish though.

For example, I ping about 1ms to Google, 35ms to Frihost.com, but 65ms to www.synaps3.com

Anyone know why this could happen?

Is there any sort of Joomla streamlining I could do to improve its efficiency?

Thanks!

It is probably the domain. Try visiting the subdomain and seeing if Joomla is still slow. Also, I don't see how you can get 1MS ping for Google...

We have a dedicated fiber line... It's fast as balls.

According to SpeakEasy:
Quote:
Last Result:
Download Speed: 55231 kbps (6903.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 6594 kbps (824.3 KB/sec transfer rate)

That's with Pidgin, Outlook, and a lot of Firefox tabs open too...

Anyways, back on topic,

The subdomain is equally slow. I'm not sure why.

Does anyone know any tutorials for publishing content in Joomla? Google doesn't help me at all.

Since about two years I was trying to have Joomla on my site , but because of the unstable versions and the bad arabic support I turned to use other scripts like xoops which has the best arabic support team , and e107 script and still using an old version of mkportal which is the best to deal with a wide range of forum softwares .
I think Joomla still a heavy script to deal with .
Joomla team still working as a business owners therefore many of the Joomla feaures are not working fine even it is free .
And now we can find that Mambo is back and new versions were released .

I've never had problems with Joomla and speed.

1. Try checking your domain settings to make sure everything is setup properly.
2. Make sure the database is setup properly. Is it on the same server as the main install?
3. Check the server settings in general.

joomla does use a lot of recourses on the server, so there's a good chance that joomla is slow and other software isn't when the server is getting a lot of requests (as in ddos) or when some people make a backup.

I get 1ms ping to Google most of the times... I live in Amersfoort where the whole area has fibre.
My connection atm is 50mbit up/down.

a lot of joomla templates have so many graphics in them. try another one!

hey there, it seems that you are judging the speed by pinging, which is absolutely not correct. When you ping the site it sends the request to the server and then the server returns the reply about its ip.

What exactly you are seeing now is that the site is slow because the server where the site is hosted is slow in response. Its just like that all the machines does not have the same speed so does all the host srever. if the server is slow so the response time to send reply will also be slow, or maybe there is too many requests on the server so it will take more response time which is why you are seeing the delay.

Joomla is pretty fast if used with proper host or you can check with some dedicated host having joomla installation.
