Dude! American Psycho is great, and I know this is off topic but have you read the book? (by Bret Easton Ellis), it beats gory films for elaborate and distinctly sadistic imagery of torture. Makes the film look like Mickey Mouses Adventures in Candyland.
As for visual gore; Peter Jacksons early effort 'Bad Taste' I liked, he saw the attraction of gorefests but knew he couldn't do it realistically so he'd just overdo it to the max. Silly.
