Problem, Undead DVD-Drive

I have this weird problem with a laptop...
It worked without a flaw for some time, until recently the dvd-drive stopped working in windows, giving an error when you click on it.

However it is possible to boot the computer from cd-rom. So the drive isn't dead.
Any ideas?

driver maybe. try installing windows (i know, bad suggestion).

Reinstall, or try a Windows repair.

You could always uninstall the driver and reinstall it.

ya, u can try repair the registry, or go to device manager and delete your drive, then refresh it.

After trying a lot of different things, I gave up and reformatted the laptop.
It was slow and full of crap anyway. Anyways the DVD-Drive now works flawless again.

try going to the company of the drive and downloading the drivers for it. try that before a clean install.
