after effects has (almost) nothing to do with photo editing. it's one of the best video editors....

I took a class on these in 9th grade, Adobe after affects are for Film editing, you can make pretty good films with this once you get the basic interfaces down and understand what the things do. Illustrator is mainly for making brochures/flyers/signs and things. also easy once you understand what things do.
