Badminton - Have U tried ?

nTonio
Hi!
Recently I noticed that badminton is not a silly game, especially after watching some pros on youtube, more over it require much more movement then volleyball.
After couple games I come to a conclusion that the official sizes and highs of the play field ( image beneath ) aren't good for streathing the game on field - it result in movement reduction - less fun from the game.

What is your experience ?
What equipment do you use ?
hlavco
We play badminton on the same field that we play volleyball on, so there's a lot of room to run around. It's more fun when you're playing informally. My dad and his friends used to play it like crazy. They'd set up flood lights and play late into the night. Only they called the game "forehead" because that's what they'd be aiming for... the other guy's forehead. Everybody would have big red marks on their foreheads the next day.

I play badminton. I realy like it.
I prefer playing in the winter season, but i also like playing outdoor (when it's alright weather Wink)

I also think that in many ways, badminton is as interesting a game as tenis and is relatively easy to arrange a game. It is pretty tough to play and needs a lot of skills. The only bad thing is that you are confined in a small place and don't have long runs.

i newer play, like a sport, the badmington, but the british mix pair in olympics games, give to me a desire to test with a net
dude_xyx
used to play with friends in evening. Gives you a great workout.

Yes you don't get long runs out of badminton but they still sweat just as much and one has to be highly agile to do what they do in the court if you seen those players perform in the Olypmics. I'm not any good it at though.

it's great..even it's tired but you'll get healthy...it's a good indoor game...

It's a great game! I don't play it often enough to warrant spending the money on my own equipment, though, so I just rent it from the hall I play at. Smile
But it definitely keeps you fit, and gives you a great workout! And it's fun! Very Happy Nothing like the nerdy sport I thought it was in school. Razz

Badminton is one of the national sport (besides football) in my country, so yeah, i definitely ever tried it. I like it actually, it is an easy sport to start with, the learning curve is not steep compared to some other sports.

I look at my passport and it's written : Indonesia. Smile
In Beijing 2008 we got 1 gold from, you're right, badminton men doubles. We also got another silver and bronze from the same sport. Badminton is the only sport we got consistent performer and is highly respected by other nations.

I love Badmonton. It's probably the only sport I'm quite good at. The problem with playing outdoors, I find, that even a small amount of wind will divert the shuttle completely and therefore can often give one player advantage (unless the wind is coming perpendicular to the field, then everybody is equally hanicapped.

Yeah, I know this problem, but I manager with it, by increasing the weight of the shuttle and loosen feathers distance. But you have to be very careful with the weight! The simplest way to increase the weight is to attached little rock of couple of grams by sellotape used for wires electric isolation. The game becomes not so sensitive for wind and much more energic. Good thing in that combination would be strong and thick veinlet – the speed of the shuttle can surprise U Very Happy

I like this better than tennis, because it's easier to hit! and, I can hit it very hard and it'll still stay inbounds.

I have been playing for around a year now. I play once a week with a mate. It is a great sport. When we are talking to other friends we dont see often or family members or anyone for that matter, you tell them you play badminton and they instantly react well to it saying "oh I used to play, I loved badminton". Its a great sport that can be enjoyed by all. I will be playing for years to come I hope. Its really cheap for me to rent the space a my local meaning it is cheap hobby to do. If you havent played recently, give it a go.
jabce85
yeah, i first played it seriously in a high school gym class... i dominated, but i can guarantee that if i played someone who was halfway decent the result would not be the same

Yonex is really good, I mean the best in my opinion, but some Victor’s ones that I’d played were also good.

shuttlecock

The flight performance is consistently accurate.
The combination of close-to-feather shuttlecock flight performance and four to five times more durability than an ordinary nylon shuttlecock.

and the net.

The first time I played was at college I took a badmington class for an easy A, not expecting to get much out of it. I actually liked the game so much I took the class that was offered at my college 3 semesters in a row. It is alot more challenging, physical, and fun then I expected. I never really got into buying alot of expensive equiptment the stuff the college provided was pretty nice. Although I will say there is something to be said for buying your own equiptment and some of the specialty strings and nicer shuttle cocks. I tried out a few of my friends stuff and I can say it made a noticable differance. Good luck and have fun playing.

I love playing badminton...it really feels that i loose weight again and again!

Years back, I used to play badminton a lot.
Yonex rackets and Albatross shuttlecocks.

Its definitely not a 'stupid' game............you need to play it fast to know what it really is.

If seriously played with good partners/opponents and some speed matches, it's one hell of a tiring sport.
bellebello
I've played badminton and I find it rather fast-paced. It takes alot of wrist action as well. Maybe I'm unfit but I was quite out of breath after a while. Fun nevertheless.
pjkuse
I'm still playing.. What you need is a raquet and some shuttlecocks.
And of course a badminton court with net. Smile

Right now it is becoming an expensive game for me and my friends. Because of the increasing shuttlecock price. Usually it will take us one shuttlecock per game.

We still use the old 15 point system. Much more interesting.
ekremozdem
i have not tried it yet.. but i wanna play it. it is amazing
deanhills
It is definitely a fantastic game. I love the lightness of the raquet and the shuttlecocks. Much nicer than tennis.
pjkuse
Badminton needs speed and agility. Quite different from tennis.
mrcool
