Is it just me or is the "winter" sports seasons starting earlier and earlier each year. At one time I can remember the soccer season not starting until way into September. This year it has already started. I am not just talking about European games, or friendlies, but the league programme. If you are a multi sport player (in this case really cricket and socceer) as many of the amatuer players are, than an unneccessary conflict arises. I could perhaps see the problem if we had severe winters, but they are actually quitre mild these days. On of the larger "winter" sports -Rugby League, has in fact moved much of it's programme to the summer months. What are we coming to when the finances of sport start to dictate just when we play or watch them.
Sports seasons
With soccer, they seem to want to play more and more games (I suspect because of money). I think that is why the UK don't have a winter break (as many other countries do).
I'm not a soccer fan... but it seems like it is a rare time when there is no soccer being played. Especially in years when there is a Euro Championship or World Cup.
