I've been thinking that I want to make an image gallery to put all my photos on, but first, I need the gallery software! Any suggestions?
What I'm looking for:
- Good looking interface
- Ability to rate photos, and display them according to rating
- Automatic thumbnail generation
- Ability to put highest rated images on the index page (if any at all are there)
- Free
If it doesn't have all of those, but has most, I'd still look at it too. So, which one is a good one?

If you're looking for a php gallery, I used before Coppermine and 4images. It's easy to install and use them with a lot of options and ways to customize (skins). You can modify all of them through an admin panel.

I have been looking at putting up a gallery of my images for some time. I was basically was looking at having a search functionality over the tags in the gallery. I also was looking at good themes with the functionality to add customised pages without too much of coding as I am a bit rusty now.
After a lot of research and trials I narrowed down to Coppermine and Gallery. I picked Coppermine Initially and built my site but had problems adding a "home" page which came before the gallery and an index page for the images and matching them to the theme of the rest of the site. There was too much of coding as well setting a lot of settings.
Am now about to give Gallery a try, hope it have a better experience.
