I would have suggested Bleach and Samurai Champloo.
Naruto I have avoided for now (I'm not done with Bleach yet).
I also enjoyed Yu Yu Hakusho.
The American version can be a bit cheesy at times but it's still plenty good.

I just started Fate / Stay Night and it's not too bad. Also, I'm not too sure if this is Anime, but Spectacular Spider-Man is actually really good. It's definitely not comic - canon, but it's worth a watch.

I just wanted to recomend Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagan. It's mecha. But it's far different that the usual mecha thingy like gundam or such, and I mean it, exactly different.
But if you like, you could try it one or 2 episode.

Try Claymore or D.grayman. Both have nice looking animations and the story is really interesting. One is set in the medieval times while the latter has references about religon.
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. Its complex but the second season is easier to understand and its full of action and really good. You'll get whats going on.
Noir, a really good girl with gun anime. I almost watched the entire series in a day, its that good. Stay away from the other series that part of the trilogy though, they aren't that good.

It sounds like you pretty much like standard shonen things.
Stuff like: Soul Eater, Busou Renkin, History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi, or Reborn! are right up your alley.
