Hi there!

We've made an other sketch comedy which is now finally ready and on youtube. Please check it out and comment on the pros and the cons. Very Happy

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2TSiy_29mVI

The sound quality is pretty bad because of a poor microphone and the video is in Finnish, BUT it has ENGLISH subtitles. Wink

Thanks everyone for your time!

It's good, but it moves quite slowly and comedy films have to keep the laughs coming or they dry up.

Thanks! Yeah, you're right. It moves quite slowly and there could be more comedy in it. We're still beginners but we're really eager to learn new things. Very Happy

Thanks for the comment!

Any other comments? Haven't received but one comment. I would really appreciate if you'd tell me what you thought of the sketch comedy. Critic and advice, anything. Thanks Very Happy

hey, the video itself is not bad, but right off the bat you should make sure youtube is providing it in High Quality mode... output h.264 with ac3 sound and about 640x480.. that should do it...

cheers

Hmm, can it be changed to provide high quality without reuploading the video? What do you think of the video otherwise? What could I do to improve it, or rather what should have I done to improve the video? What do you think of the camerawork, editing, acting, sound, visual effects, music, etc?

Thanks! Very Happy
Jaan
first of all.. it's good to hear some finnish! (i'm estonian and speak it myself).. i can recognize some words Razz

first off; way, way too long. try to study some good short films from film festivals or something for ideas on editing.
other than that; camera quality wasn't too good, and sound wasn't great either.. you might want to check the quality of your audio samples (music at the beginning was terrible quality) and your export settings for video.

sadly you can't get high quality within youtube, you have to upload a new video with higher settings. but you guys have fast internet in finland so that shouldnt be a problem Wink

also, watch some foreign films with subtitles, and try to copy the subtitles style. your english is very good, but subtitles were hard to follow, so i didn't quite get the comedy. this ties in with the 'length'.

the editing was very good, but shorter is better on the internet, unless you want to go professional. acting seemed pretty good.. and unless you can do very good level effects you shouldnt bother, go for hardware effects (costumes, etc) until you have mastered adobe after effects.

but other than that it's great to see other youths trying out video making! it's evident that you've put in a lot of effort, and it has paid off well!

cheers!

Thanks man!!! This is the first really good critic/comment that I've received for this sketch. I'm really going to treasure this and take into consideration your advice. Smile

Hmm, yeah. 10 minutes is quite long, I must admit.

Yeah, the sound is very bad since I have a cheap mic... :oops

Great to hear from you. I'll try and improve all these points when I have the time to make my next sketch comedy or short film. Very Happy

Thanks again!!! Wink

I'm sorry, but that was dreadfully terrible. It wasn't funny in the least bit, and the premise just seemed like it was entirely tacked on. It doesn't look like something that was planned out, but simply made just for the sake of being made. You need to look more into sketch comedy before you just make a few lame jokes and put it on youtube.

Hmm, well thanks for the comment, but I must say that we have planned this sketch for quite some time and we worked very hard for this. I was definitely not made for the sake of making something, we really tried to improve our skills at this.

I'd appreciate if you told me what are the exact points that you thought were bad so that I could know where I must be more careful. Wink

I think if the video's time was cut down seriously it would be better. You could cut most of the interview out, since that part was kind of pointless since it wasn't funny. If you could make the interview funny, it would be perfect, since your characters are trying to hire someone (duh). Cut into the argument some, and make it more emotional, more frantic. As if there's a serious problem and they don't know what to do. And make the problem with the lights more simple. One little click, and ta-da! And the two hiring the guy should act baffled. More facial expression would seriously help too. Sketches don't just need great scripts, they need great actors.

That wouldn't make it the greatest, but it would make it better, in my opinion.

Thanks man! Now this is the kind of critic I like. It's straight, but still not too point blank and you gave me a lot of good advice on the acting part and so on. Thanks once again. We definitely have to work on our acting. Wink

Does anyone have more comments and ideas on what I should keep in mind when making a new sketch? Thanks again everyone! Smile
