Last night I worked with Joomla, Textpattern, and was looking at others... man it just seems easier with the same old HTML files! About 5 hours I pored over the sites and templates and tried to get them to work on free servers... they seem like a pain in the butt more than anything else!
CMS "simple" yeah right!
What can be hard about Joomla!? I bet managing 100+ pages using a CMS would be a lot easier that managing 'same old' HTML files with 'dynamic' content.
In my opinion, CM systems are easier to make and your better off to do that. This way, you know what you need to be done, and you can do this yourself. It beats trying to edit the HTML files, and downloading themes. It's just a pain in the rear. I attempted to make a CMS to release, although I gave up very quickly. I might restart it, it went pretty well. It came with PM system, forums, news, membership and able to add additional pages containing what you want.

joomla does have an awful lot of settings for a beginner. Wordpress is a lot more beginner-friendly.
I got XOOPS to install.. Joomla I just took off of the server, Textpattern I got to work.. but then.. well.. now what? I don't know how to upload content to them.. Textpattern I figured out .. but just that.. editing the content of the template page, but not how to change templates.
My old sites I knew so well I could edit them with ease, and just FTP up the changed page.. but I knew the pages like the back of my hand.
Perhaps I am wrong.. I studied all night.. and looked around for free servers like this one that would let me play with the CMS. Joomla I never did get to work.. I guess because I installed it in it's own Joomla directory...
but the same problem.. I got it installed.. and.. well, now what? How to add content and change things around?
Update..got it to install! It was EZ..sheesh.. the hostname on gofreeserver.com had a weird name, not "localhost"... uploaded one of the spiffier templates. Now to add content, I go on the Joomla site and have to look and look.. at how to add content to it! I'll figure it out.. it might be nice.. my problem between my ears

Actually, there is a great website to try out CM Systems. http://opensourcecms.com/ is a free content management tester website, before you want to install one. It supports around 50 CM systems and resets the stats every few hours. It's really a great site to go to!
I basically use Wordpress as a CMS. With a few plugins and tweaks, you will be able to work it out like a content managing system. Otherwise, you could use a news system like FanUpdate for your main pagw and edit the rest.
I love Joomla at first yea confusing and like wtf?
But after a while once you get the hang out of it
its just amazing how easy to work it. I love Joomla <3

i have used joomla but before adding new pages....i checked joomla tutorials......if you use cms, then you should also learn how to config it.
All depends on task. If you want an 5 pages site, than you don`t needs a tons of code to manage it. From other side more complex systems requires custom maded scripts.
Building your own cms would be the best, because you can make it however you want.
I've been working on one for a while.

I'd take ages to build something as complicated as drupal or joomla on your own. If you only need a blog function for trusted users you could make it yourself, but if you also need support for different kinds of databases, comments with spam protection, all the security stuff and options plugins provide you should go for an already existing cms.
I had used Drupal , Joomla, Joomla 1.5 and SMF forum.
I loved Joomla the most... easy to install its module, plugin like image gallery, forum... so on
can used it as blog too!
You can c my friend's cms based website and comment it.
p/s: this website is new, made in 23 September 2008!

Well, once you know how to set them up and manage them there should be absolutely no problem. It is easier than running a standard HTML website. Now bare in mind I myself still run just HTML but then again I don't have tons of content.
